Mickey said in one of his stand up shows that he did a degree ( philosophy I think!) as a mature student. He then taught for a year before jacking it in to do comedy.

My favourite British comedian by a mile

It’s crazy the older people looked so old when they where 18 now you can’t tell if someone is legal age too drink or not

Micky's humor is definitely "British," but there are a lot of Americans who appreciate it - and you can tell I am one of them by how I spelled "humour"! There has always been an American audience for British comedy for the last fifty or so years thanks to our PBS stations. But I think the internet has definitely grown that market since we now have access to so much more material, including shows that have never been broadcast here on any stations. I've "discovered" a whole host of British comedians thanks to the panel shows and game shows and then gone to look up their other works, including Micky Flanagan. That being said, I guess the question from a practical career standpoint is if there are enough of us to justify the hassles of spending that year here, as Micky mentioned, away from friends and family and slogging through the circuits.

ITV in the UK.

In the late 70s he was earning £200.00 a month at that fish market at 17. I don’t know inflation rates but that is HUGE money for that time for someone of his age. Just goes to show how unhappy he must have been to have given that up because he wanted to get away.

Agreed...I've lived in the US for 21yrs(I'm originally from E end of London.) And the US is being massive-, thst's obvious might say!(2 Stats-A 2000 mile border with Mexico and the border wth Canada stretches 5000 miles,and 11 States larger than UK..boring facts but relevant). So listening to Robbie(and even Micky)speculating how they would or could"break america"is pretty presumptuous in a country of close to 350 million.. And I just don't see Robbie's"cheeky chappie"persona rippling the waters over here!.Micky possibly,but as he said it would take some time!!
