Should have won that Oscar. Penn was awesome, but Rourke was legendary in The Wrestler.

Mickey is a GREAT ACTOR! One of the best in our generation. From meeting him a few times, I can personally say, he's a great guy. As real as they come. No chip on his shoulder. So glad he's back!!!

I have know Mickey since 1985 because we had the same boxing trainer Bill Slayton. Once I moved to the Valley, I switched to Pat Goosen and we rarely saw each other. My best friend was Chris Penn and he always credited Mickey for getting him into the business of acting. Mickey is a humble, loyal, and trusted friend regardless of whether or not we see each other often. your friend, Don "the Dragon" Wilson

hey man, ive never met mickey rourke, but im an ex pro boxer from England. I was 18 when i had my first pro fight..i lost, and i started acting because it was the only thing i could do to help me release my anger. I trained with L.A coach Michelle Danner and now im back in England doing ok. It it wasent for mickey rourke i would have killed myself. His comeback made me want to suceed. Im now a 29 year old actor living in London and life is good, Thanks Mikey and respect to you mate.

Just watched Barfly the other night. Magnificent performances by Mick and Faye! Her line to him, "don't you just hate people." His retort, "no, but I seem to feel better when they're not around!"

I agree with you and anhacus. I really enjoyed the film. Mickey was the right person for the authentic and heartfelt story because as you say, he's genuine and as anhacus said, he looks like he has lived and suffered. His face is wrought and the subtle expressions he made in The Wrestler added a lot of poignancy and made me empathise with The Ram. I also like that Mickey is passionate about his dogs like me.

Do a Google Image search for "Mickey Rourke 9 1/2 weeks" and you'll see what he looked like during the 80s when he did that film. Looked a lot like Bruce Willis. Wasn't able to get bigger parts in the 90s, got depressed, took up boxing. Face got messed up, that's why he got the plastic surgery and looks a lot different now. Got into drugs, etc. and this is his first lead role in many many years. That's why so many see this as his "comeback."

It's nice to see such a deeply talented actor as Mickey Rourke come back to making good movies. His respect for Aronofsky is reverential , though the reference to "a pound of flesh" from the Merchant of Venice is highly inappropriate.

Rourke is one of my favourites as actors go, but I can't understand this stuff he keeps saying in interviews about being out of work for 15 years. He's been in at least 3 movies every single year since 1985, and while a number of those movies may not be high budget or huge paying they certainly entitled him to live more than comfortable, plus by his own admission he also had other jobs going while making 3 movies a year. So this shit about him being so broke and out of work that he couldn't afford to fix his front tooth is nobody's fault but his own for a fucking Hollywood spendthrift. He also complained that he could no longer afford to eat out in restaurants who usually accommodate the A -Lister types, well woe-be-him ain't tthat a tough life. His idea of being broke is totally skewed by being handed that lifestyle on a platter from an early age, it's all the same with a lot of other Hollywood types, after a few years anything short of a million dollars is broke to them, delusional and pretty pathetic to say the least.

You're right Mickey still made movies all these years. They were always low-grade straight to DVD. No A-List film wanted him. He was very humble in all his interviews after the Wrestler, but he has reverted to his old habits of bashing everyone, which is keeping off the A-List again.

He did a great job in the Wrestler. I thought it would be a shitty movie, mostly about Wrestling, but it wasnt and it was a good story about a man who struggles in his life anr after an heart attack, because of which he has to rake it slow realizes that he made a lot if mistakes try to change, doesnt work and though risky, he take up wrestling again. Nice story !
