Everyone knows Mickey's first words but I don't know if many have actually seen the cartoon where he says them. It's kind of a janky short ngl. This was really the first time an animated character's voice was important to the cartoon. This was synchronized sound so the mouths had to be timed just right. But Mickey's face twists around lol, you can just tell it's an experiment. And the cartoon has a lot of talking, relatively. Disney really flexed their sound here.
This is the start of Disney's talking era. Before this all their films only had sound for sound's sake, or background music. Now the characters were talking, and I think that's a big deal.
Anyway Disney's distributor thought foreigners would turn on Mickey if he spoke a different language, so he tried to cut out the talking. I guess dubbing wasn't invented yet? lmao. Luckily Disney ignored him
