I’ve been going through a depressive episode for a couple months, and I recently started doing a deep dive into the Stones. Mick is so inspiring to me - to be 80 and that full of life still gives me something to work toward.

What a fascinating interview. I never expected Jagger to be so comfortably conversational, thoughtful, and human.

Could of been 2hrs long and it wouldn't be enough. What a life Mick has had and to listen to him as 80yr old, still working, still energetic, is mind blowing.

Mick makes himself timeless by 'staying abreast of things' in the business. He's always been engaged, ambitious, smart, had a great business sense and was totally loose as a songwriter, player and performer. He's just brilliant. He's always known exactly who he is.

@@ericsonhazeltine5064 Being "demanding" is not a successful way to bring up your kids , they might do just the opposite. He had a stable upbringing , which usually is enough to get stable kids. Take Brian Jones' father , he was the typical shortsighted demanding father , which made Brian an establishment hating unstable dropout . On whose shoulders fame did not rest easily (as Jagger once stated). Bill Wyman had somewhat of a cruel father yet he turned out to develop a very levelheaded personality .

Thing about Jagger he’s always authentic, BIG ego on stage, humble when off, probably what keeps him so grounded. Admirable.

Probably the best interview I’ve seen with him in years. So well done and a joy to watch. Thank you

I love that he doesn't want to be retro and at no point bitched about today's music or the music industry. Most of his peers are stuck in the past and just play the old songs. The Stones and Paul McCartney just keep going. They keep up with the times and you have to admire that.

💯 he never judges other music and stays with the times. It’s so amazing that they keep coming out with new music after all these decades. I last saw them on their Voodoo Lounge tour where they not only played their classics but new songs that were so great. I think they are the all time greatest rock n roll band of all time with their longevity, classics and forward releases over all these decades. Hardest working band of all time!

I concur entirely with your sentiments. Still writing and performing classic ballads 60 years on. Saw the Stones in Twickenham, west London in 2018. A Turkish family of 4 travelled all the way from Seattle were seated in front of me. I commented that this trip - travel, accommodation and tickets - must have cost them a 'packet' to which the father replied 'Well it is THE ROLLING STONES, after all'. The crowd that evening included people ranging in age from 9 to 90. Truly a night to remember! Colyn Boyce, Wickford, Essex, England

Mick is such an interesting man & impossible to 'pin down' ! He seems to be so comfortable with himself & really opens up here. Great & uplifting interview!! ☺️❤️

They are sort of the MODEL for all musicians. Maybe not all the drugs & stuff , but except for a lull in the 1980 s , they have been on top of the heap ! I pulled up a list of all of the acts that's opened for them since they first headlined . I was really shocked , the Beatles would not even follow them live . I think maybe led Zeppelin was one of the only big bands that never opened for them ! You've got to be Good to follow Otis Redding , Doors , Beatles , eagles , Van Halen, AC/DC . It goes on & on !

@@dearlrogers3498 Beatles were friends with the Stones and socialized together, and they were both huge acts at the same time, there would be no reason for either of them to open for the other. What you did see is members of each band supporting and enjoying the projects of the other. Any rivalry was always in good fun.

Mick is so timeless and so attractive personality wise. What the young musicians lack today is charisma. (A British accent doesn't hurt either.)

Keeping up? That's the problem nowadays with the Stones as I see it. Keeping up with the now sounds means they are keeping up with crap. The youth of today haven't a clue on how to write good music. Especially the kind with melody to it. Mick couldn't write another hit like Gimme Shelter, Satisfaction or Jumpin' Jack Flash if his life depended on it. He's too interested in keeping up with the times, which suck musically.

What an incredible interview! Listening to Mick, I completely forget that this amazing human being is eighty years old, he has the mental capacity, physical ability and energetic desire of a thirty five year old man! Please, Please, Please Tom, do all that you can to bring the band together for an extremely in-depth interview of the complete history of their career, as well as their personal lives (If Possible). Their history belongs in the archives of the Smithsonian, for future generations to come. They are truly a treasure of not only Britain and the United States, but to the entire world!

Mick is the friggin proverbial fountain of youth. Amazing in so many ways.

I’m late to this party, but wow, wow, wow. I’m so happy to hear Mick talk about things so openly. I’ve been a loyal Stones fan since I first heard them in 1963 or 64. I was a young teenager and crazy for them. I still have all of my old vinyl records and at 73 I still have posters, photos and a painting done by Sebatian Kreuger, hanging in my house. This was a pleasure to see. Thank you, Tom.

He is the man. Cool, relaxed and so full of life. I love the emotion talking about his dear friend and fellow band buddy Charlie RIP Charlie and Brian . Great interview 👍

Jagger does something that I can't think of any other vocalist doing at the level Jagger does it. He sounds authentic in whatever genre he's in. There are a lot of vocalists who, if they sing Chicago blues, sound like hard rock vocalists covering Chicago blues. Mick sounds like a Chicago bluesman, and he does the same thing with other genres too. If he sings country, it sounds like Bakersfield or Nashville. If he covers Stax/Volt, it sounds like Mussel Shoals. I can't think of anyone else who gets the feeling right the way Mick can. I love Paul Rodgers and Rod Stewart and Robert Plant, and I love it when they cover things, but they always sound like themselves covering something. Mick gets the feeling, the phrasing right. He pauses and modulates the volume like Muddy or Otis would without it ever being imitative.

Mick is so interesting, and one thing that touched me was Mick talking about Charlie and saying 'we had lots of interests apart from the band, cricket, football, antiques and beautiful things'. This showed how much interest the Stones have in all of life - and this 'roundedness' comes out in their music.

It makes it possible to constantly find songs I hadn't heard before from 30 ,50 , 70 years ago rather than trying to find the rare interesting song that has been recently released. It's very nice to be able to dig into the catalogue of any artist or band and hear things you would have NEVER been able to find before the Internet came into being

Best interview with Mick that I’ve seen in years.

Mick looks great not only considering his age but that it seems he's had no plastic surgery. The guy can still move on the stage and he's still co producing his records. He mixed Tatoo You pretty much on his own. One of the best Mick Jagger interviews I have seen Tom.

It's amazing, after all these years, Mick still remains, more or less, the same. I remember first hearing "Paint It Black" back in 1966 and it blows my mind that it was so long ago. Became a fan at that time. I always felt it was a shame they didn't add that song to the UK album as well as the great B side "Long, Long While", which is a fantastic song. They should have left the track "Goin' Home" off instead. Anyway, going off track a little. It's great that Mick and Keith are still doing all right.

I first heard Paint It, Black in 1981 or '82 when I was just before Kindergarten age, and it blows MY mind that it was so long ago! Timeless classic and it translates well into punk :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/c51hksGHn7HPpJc.html

Steel Wheels is a great album. Not very well known but to me, one of their best

I was never a great fan of the Stones, but I have some of their albums and much of their music is certain classic. I love it that they are still at it. Seems to me that Mick and Paul have real talents in talking and dealing with people. I think it makes a huge difference with a band. He's got a great smile, and face. Without Mick I don't think they'd still be at it because he is a great band leader. Thanks for posting this - it's nice to see.

Great interview, you both seemed very relaxed. A rare interview when the interviewer doesn't seem overwhelmed that they are talking to a living legend.

Wow, that was one of the best Rolling Stones Mick Jagger interviews I’ve seen. It was so comfortable to watch. I didn’t want to see it end. It was 100% living room. it dug deep into everything that you wanted to hear about rock ‘n’ roll roots and the people who made those roots. I swear I saw a twinkle of the light flash off my telecaster. I think you’re gonna have to dig deep to top that interview. Good job.

What a fantastic interview. It leaves you wanting more. Mick is a brilliant musician and business man. They sure don't make the bands today like they did back in the 60's. They came up the hard why and paided their dues. Love, love the Stones
