Not many people know that Michelle Yeoh rode a dirt bike onto a moving train without a stunt double more than 30yrs ago in Police Story co starring Jackie Chan. This woman has done it all. Congrats Michelle, we’ll deserved.

I rewatched that movie recently (called “Supercop” in the US) because it was the first time I had heard of this actress and I wanted to see it again. I think at the time she was billed as “Michelle Khan.” I had misheard the name and thought that Chinese-American teenage ice skater Michelle Kwan was in a Jackie Chan movie. 😂

One of my favorite stories of hers is how, initially Jackie didn't think much of her, but after a while she actually scared him. She was pretty new and wasn't really a trained martial artist, so she didn't yet have the deep respect of the Hong Kong industry that she has now.

As a Malaysian, I'm still proud to see international names still recognizing her talent. If she only relies on our local entertainment industry, she'd be nowhere.

of course. if she relies on local movies, only local would kno her. DUH! would U kno Selma Hayek if she remained in Mexico. or Omar Sharif if he remained in Egypt. or Zsa Zsa Gabor if she remained in Hungary. these people are known internationally because THEY WENT INTERNATIONAL. not staying put where they were originally from.

Malaysia govt and the Malays would never have let Michelle, a non Malay shine in Malaysia. They are suffering so low self esteem they cannot stomach another race doing better. Sad but true

I remember watching Memoirs of a Geisha as a child and thinking Michelle Yeoh was a well-respected actress. In that movie, she is stunning woman who holds herself with such grace and dignity. As an adult, learning she wasn't respected as much as I think she should have been felt like another one of many wake up calls back to a harsh reality. Hollywood is out of it's mind for making people of her stature feel like they're not worth the time, even during the acceptance speech of an award that feels like the long-awaited recognition of a great talent. Congratulations Michelle, you deserve it.

She is incredible. The first time I saw her was in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and she has been a favorite ever since. Her presence onscreen is unmatched, and it's wonderful to see her get her due. Stephanie Hsu is making me cry, too. I look forward to seeing Michelle Yeoh in the kind of roles Nicole Kidman has been snapping up, going forward!

Michelle Yeoh is one versatile actress of our generation. We are lucky to see an Asian actress break the stereotype roles offered and played as damsel in distress, who is always weepy and crying for help. Her action movies are to be commended because it paved the way for actresses to play more challenging roles and be recognized for it. Even when she plays a supporting role, her versatility shows her dedication to her craft. Congratulations on a well deserved recognition. ( Side note: she is also an elegant woman, in any attire).
