That's not just an exceptional vocal, it's an acted vocal, stabilising as the character goes from hesitant and emotional to confident and lost in her moment. Very few actresses could pull that off quite like this. Bravo.

She is in a duo band named Michael and Michelle. They met on set. Micheal Fox is actually married to Laura Carmichael irl Sometimes Elizabeth McGovern will join her.

I sang “ somewhere over the rainbow” to my mother as her spirit left her , it was her favorite song . This is so beautiful

Agreed. Her version is beautiful and spot-on. I never would have guessed it was the same person who played Lady Mary. Glad to see her expanding beyond that role.

Thankfully, they let her sing this "live," rather than lip syncing to a prerecorded studio version, as is usually done in movies and TV. The immediacy of the performance, the live timbre, and the genuine reaction of the other actors to her real performance made the scene incredibly affecting.

What a phenomenal actress. At first -- and maybe second and third-- glance, you would never know that was Lady Mary. I am so glad she included the intro to the song-- I recorded SOTR a capella, 7 times, melody and 6 harmonies, and several people said they hadn't even known that the intro existed until they heard my version.

Good to know I am not the only one crying and don't even know the show. What a moving scene.

She sang it beautifully, it made me cry.

That was beautiful. I used to sing that song to my mother when I was taking care of her the last couple years of her life. We played a recording of Ella Fitzgerald singing Over the Rainbow at my mother's graveside service. I haven't been able to sing that song since she died in 2022, it was really emotional listening to it now.

⁠@@billyriedel6449Yes! She and Michael Fox, the guy who played Andrew, on Downton, have recorded together. He is quite talented, as well. And just for one other little trivia nugget, he’s also in a long-term relationship with Laura Carmichael, who played Lady Edith. They have a son, together.

Magnificent. Michell Dockery is superb. Excellence.

What an exceptional actress! She always takes up very complex characters and holds her own, not afraid to be a villain or psycho in thrillers and horror films, a true artist I respect. I am excited of her upcoming movies.

She really is a wonderful talent. Inhabits space so clearly and such inner intensity and then the breath control, the mix and timbre of her voice - colours of folk and country and rock.

Lady Mary transported herself to the 1980s! Michelle is such a versatile actress and a beautiful singer!

I can not stop coming back to this for healing. To everyone who had a part in bringing this about....I hope you know what you've done to everyone and I really hope you celebrate your accomplishment at bringing us all to the heart of the matter- Love.

This has always been a special song in our family - especially between my Mom and me. I remember her singing it to me and my younger brother to put us to sleep. At her request, made shortly before she passed away, we played it at her funeral. I'd like it played at mine one day as well.

I have no background knowledge for any of this. What a lovely performance! How much better for those invested in the characters & story!

I think this is the church in Neasden where my best friends fathers funeral was held. Very moving rendition.

I have no idea what this show is and I feel like I've watched the entire series from this one clip. This scene is beyond comparison for what it stirs in my soul. No one could have added any more than they did and what everyone added created a beautiful harmony to her vocals and incomparable performance.
