Sadly, I t’s pretty normal for biracial children to want to attend HBCUs to learn about their black culture. My son’s ex-girlfriend is biracial (half black half Puerto Rican) and it’s heartbreaking to listen to her talk about wanting to know more about her culture. She’s almost 17 and the nearly 2 years of them dating my son spent a lot of time introducing her simple things like black music, movies and tv shows. She knew who Whitney Huston, Michael Jackson, J-5 were but never heard their music, never seen black sitcoms or movies. She only knew about MLK and Malcom X because of black history month.
