spot on. that is my testing point for this piece. One thing that makes ABM so special is his absolute perfection in building the climax. He doesn't prepare for it 4, 16, 25 measures ahead of time. He starts at measure one. This piece is an interpretational nightmare. I have never worked harder on a recording of any piece ever. It has to be just right or the transcription just doesn't work. The 1949 recording is just unreal. probably my favorite piano recording ever. : )

I love AMB's interpretation For me it is ultimate rendition, simply this piece can't be played better So deep and majestic. Bach is a God and Michelangeli his profet to reveal Absolute's will and thoughts to people

Quelle interprétation magistrale! Goethe disait de la Chaconne de Bach qu'elle était la «plus grande victoire de l'esprit humain sur la matière.»

the greatest piece of music becomes a sort of magical elixir capable of making any material desire useless. It simply enhances the spiritual side of the human being, particularly when played by people like ABM or A. Segovia.

Michelangeli makes the spine tingle in a way no others can approach. How does he do it? It isn't a question of technique, at least not directly; indirectly, yes, it's relevant, in that there are dimensions in Michelangeli's pianism which allow musical conceptions to materialise which might not dawn on others. Nor is it a question of structure, in the narrow sense of the awareness of overall proportions, judicious shaping of paragraphs, continuity of thought; but the way structure is projected and the way it's transmuted into emotional drama; these things are critical. The impact of all this would be negligible without a sympathetically attuned conductor and orchestra. Fortunately that's exactly what Michelangeli has.
