Michael Spinks followed a smart route. After catching one big fish after another he knew when to stop and lived happily ever after.

Such a down to earth grounded Gent , really good to see Micheal is healthy and functioning well . A extremely good boxer in his day and not mentioned enough nowadays.

What a down to earth, gentle and sweet man. I'm glad I found this interview with Michael Spinks. He's truly an amazing human being!

I agree. Holmes was loudmouthed and has never said anything good about anyone, he was great but people didn't want him as the champion. The heavyweight division was going downwards once ali retired until tyson came in 85. Spinks vs holyfield and holmes vs foreman and tyson vs foreman would have been good matchups.

I followed Michael Spinks from his first pro fight. He was amazing! My favorite light heavy of all time. Before the first Holmes fight during an interview Michael told the reporter “I’m not exactly suffering from a power shortage”!! He was humble when asked if he was going to win. With a big happy smile on his face he said; I’m just going to do the best I can and see what happens. No talking bs, just keeping it real. Huge respect! Michael is the man!!

“They’ll beat one us but they won’t beat both of us..” The love those brothers must have and had is amazing and the ability to rely on someone like that is beautiful. The Spinks brothers will always be remembered for the olympics in my family. My Dad always mentions that first before their actual careers and it goes to show it meant something to the the American people to win in boxing in any weigh class in those days.
As a kid in late 70s early 80s,I remember the spinks brothers being legends simply because they were in Olympics together and both got gold medals.

I agree. Bob Foster was great. Another LHW that couldnt handle the big guys. Spinks beat Holmes twice only because Holmes was past his prime and was ripe for Spinks. We all knew at the time that Tyson was way too powerful for Spinks and of course Tyson destroyed Holmes.

Agree with the statement with regards to Marciano Scott. Bob Foster was great as well his speed and reach was tremendous. They were the blueprint for modern day cruiser weights
I met Michael at of all places a Fleetwood Mac concert in baton rouge, la. He was early in his pro career just after the Olympics. I spotted the black cowboy hat. He and his lady were there enjoying the show. Im such a fan i couldn't help but approach him. Heck of a nice guy and a great in the ring. To this day my friends still say i was one toke over the line and i was mistaken. Not so. The champ likes Fleetwood Mac. Peace n smoke.

Michael Spinks was a True Gentleman Champion. All around great man and very smart to hang it up when he did. Came out with Money and his Mind still intact
I liked how the interviewer switched the topic to Tyson To Holmes, talked about how good it was, then finally switching to talk about Tyson. That's some good respect. Way better than suddenly going up to his face and ask about his worst and only loss in his career.
He was soo good man in my opinion right there among the best of the best
One seriously underrated ATG.
Michael Spinks coined the phrase Michael Buffer pimps whenever possible “somebody’s ‘0’ has got to go” in the lead up to 1st Holmes fight
Awesome light heavyweight probably top all time 5 if not #1.
What an awesome dude. Low-key, no ego, did his thing and moved on
Two brothers both held sports. Biggest prize the world heavyweight title . pretty amazing and they both won gold medals. Also they do not get the respect they deserve. They are legends , RIP Leon Spinks.

Awesome cowboy hat that he's wearing. Some of the most famous cowboys ever, are from the state of Missouri. Jesse & Frank James, Bob Ford and his brothers, Clell Miller, Cole Younger & his brothers, just to name a few🎩
Michael spinks looked like he was going to the electric chair when he fought Mike Tyson... props to both Mike's ...🥊🥊🥊
One of the best lightheavies of all time; it’s unfortunate that a lot of “fans” only know him for the Tyson fight.

RIP World Chanpion Leon Spinks I had watched Michael Spinks fight so many times on HBO and became a fan as he moved up weight divisions. I had always hoped to see him fight my other favorite boxer, Marvin Hagler, but they were always too far apart in weight. I thought World Champion Michael Spinks had the boxing intelligence and skills to thwart & outlast World Champion Mike Tyson as it seemed like Ali vs. Foreman to me. At that time it was rare for Tyson to go deep into the later rounds and I had seen the stamina that Spinks had. Also, many felt like me that Tyson was a bully and a 'one trick pony' and had not really been tested by a good strategic fighter. What I didn't account for was the visceral fear that Mike Tyson struck into his opponents, and it was painfully apparent that this is the demon that haunted Michael Spinks in that fight. All-in all, Michael Spinks deserved to compete to be The World Heavyweight Champion, no question about it.
A great champion!
