Dressel is great but Phelps is just a whole level. Swim gets faster over time, but no other swimmer has been as dominant for so long as Phelps.

With 23 pure gold medals 🥇,Michael Phelps is the greatest, the most dominant and the most decorative Olympian of all time.(but still I respect caelab though )

Yes, Phelps started swimming in the Olympics at a much younger age, but by your logic Spitz can be better than Phelps since swimming "gets faster over time." That happened with Phelps.

Also, comparing these two men is comparing apples and oranges. Dressel is a sprinter. Phelps is a middle and long distance swimmer. Dressel is about bursts of speed. Phelps is about consistency and endurance. That's why he had such a long career and why the back half of his races were always the best. Both men are good but Dressel cannot be called a legend (yet-we'll see). Phelps is a legend and an icon- his kind come around once in a lifetime :)

Dressel is good, but to remind you all the fact that this guy “Michael phelps “ kept his record and dominated for a straight 16 years even when he was competing against the best from all nations. (23 gold medals 🥇and 4 world records still on the line )phew

Dressel is 24. Records exist to be broken. He might not surpass the 23 gold medals one but he will have plenty of WRs by the time he retires.

@@calamorta agreed but speed records are often broken, its normal and expected that timings get faster over the years, still feel phelps holds the title for GOAT unless he manages to breaks phelps medal records

Phelps is still the best swimmer of all time and Dressel is also the best in his time. What I like about Dressel is he is so humble and grateful everytime he wins.👍👍👍

Iam thorpe is the goat

One thing Caleb benefits from is 11 more years of science on reducing drag by refining stroke and kick techniques. Especially when it comes to dolphin kicks off the wall and from the starting platform. Also underwater photography has become much more common now and for a good part of Caleb’s generation for improved training at an early age with GoPros and even iPhones now.

Maybe it would better to make this comparison 8 years from now and compare whole careers

I swear I've already seen this video. Like, I remember watching it. I remember that he compares Phelps' and Dressel's times from the 100 freestyle and butterfly, and what Dressel could potentially get on the 200 freestyle and the 200 and 400 IM. He also concluded with that there is no doubt about who is the greatest swimmer of all time, and that it was Michael Phelps

Same.i remember him saying that caleab did not have some timings that Phelps had.i think it's 200 fly or 200 fr

No doubt Dressel is faster now, but in order to reach Phelp's level, Dressel needs to remain world class for at least 1-2 more Olympics! But we are confident in him!

It would take him 3 more olympics at least as he doesn't win very many medals each one because he's simply just a sprint swimmer. Phelps was an all around swimmer.

They're both great in their own way. Each come with different skill sets and approach to swimming. Both are awesome in their sport. I like them both.

Both are legends. Dressel won’t break Phelps medal count. They swim different races. Met Dressel one time was super nice. Wish them the both the best.

Caeleb Dressel's has 7 gold medals as of 5th August 2021. Keep going man!

Both are legendary swimmers. Phelps is good at distance, Caeleb is good at speed. Caeleb is also younger. I had a lot of younger swimmers aspire to be as fast as me and a couple years later they were! Also had a couple older swimmers faster than me, later I outpaced them. Caeleb has a really long streamline, that is really what gives this guy an upper hand in any swim.

If dressel can get 8 medals in 1 Olympics and get 23 overall then sure he can be on par with Phelps

Why is this necessary? Phelps did more events, showing greater versatility. Dressel is explosive and sprints. There are too many variables for an actual comparison.

Dressel may be faster in a few disciplines, but Phelps is easily the greatest all around swimmer in history, no doubt.

Great vedeo, great comparison. Both are humble, simple and great humans. But performance wise they are totally different. Dressel is the current super star but cannot be compared with Phelps. Phelps is the greatest athlete on the planet. Simple. It's unfair comparison between a Nobel laureate to a PhD. Phelps is the laureate. Nobody can even come close to him.

@@JS-zr6qf You can't use gold count for greatest althlete. Many sports don't have a bunch of events that are similar that you can rack up medals in. I'd argue Simone Biles is as good or better in her sport than Phelps. And I love phelps.

Michael Phelps ...the best / gold Olympian swimmer .His swimming moves so amazing ! Hopefully Caeleb Dressel will also like Michael 😊💜

1- You can not use a short course yard to make a point about best performance most swimmers don't train for that to be their best performance so he's not facing the best 2- Dressel might be the greatest sprinter in history to be able to dominate in sprinting races for a full Olympic cycle 4 sprinting races 50, 100m both freestyle and butterfly is just crazy if he can dominate for another olympic cycle for me that might be as consistent as Phelps sprinting races are harder to monopolize you can't make mistakes even if you're the best swimmer 3- in terms of absolute best performances Phelps's 400IM in Beijing and 200m butterfly in Rome are only comparable to Dressel's 100m butterfly performance for now (and hopefully his sub 21 in the 50m freestyle tomorrow :D)

People that are good at butterfly are normally also good at freestyle a backstroke right? What about breast stroke? It seems to be off on its own a bit, less overlap with the other strokes.

Ian Thorpe has the most beautiful freestyle I have seen.

Starting younger age meaning he went to Olympics at an earlier age at 15 at Sydney as compared to dressel 19 at Rio,so at 19 Athens he knew his competitors better and is hence better to get more medals

Calaeb Dressel is an amazing swimmer, and he's going to do great things in a pool, but you have to consider that pools are faster now, and also that he is not constantly facing the same quality of competition that Michael had to beat. Phelps got in the pool with beasts and legends the likes of Alain Bernard, Chad le Clos, Ian Thorpe and his lifelong rival and sometimes nemesis Ryan Lochte (who is second to none). Calaeb is a horse, a stud, but Phelps is, and always will be......THE GOAT!

A lot of people here don't even know that one of Dressel gold medals was given to him for swimming classifying heats and not the final(4×100 meddley in Rio 2016) in which Phelps swam the final. Also the 2 gold medals that he has in Rio were relay, in which both had Phelps too, and like I said, Dressel did not even swam the final in one of them. So no, the GOAT is Michael Phelps by a long shot so far ...

As of now, Phelps is the greatest, with 31 medals (28 Olympics Gold Medals) for 5 Olympics. Time will tell if Dressel can surpass Phelps Olympic achievements. Dressel is still 22 years old, very young. He have a lot of potential to surpass Phelps.
