Yeah, I didn‘t know that, but when I‘ve spoken with a french friend, he suddenly said to me: „Ach so, Ach so, Ach so“ even if he doesn‘t know some single word german. So funny! And I suddenly realized, how often I use this word!

Saku Yuu that reminds me of a newspaper article some time ago, in the Pforzheimer Zeitung. First some background info: In the evening of February 23, 1945 the city of Pforzheim was anihilated by a massive British air raid (-> Moral bombing strategy), 17400 civilians, mainly women, children and old people (all men between 16 and 60 had been drafted to serve at the front at this point) were killed in horrible ways like burning alive, being squashed by rubble or suffocating in underground air raid shelters. Of those roughly 850 heavy bombers carrying out the attack three were brought down by anti aircraft guns or nightfighters during the attack. Three of the 7 crew members of one of these bombers could bail out before it exploded. They landed near the village of Hohenwart, in the outskirts of Pforzheim, where they were captured, placed in front of a wall and shot on the spot. The newspaper article now was about the setup of a bronze memorial in Hohenwart, for these three bomber crew members, and the entire article depicted it, as if that had been a terrible crime, and that we all have to feel guilty for that. Of course it is never good to kill someone, but it was war, they were enemy soldiers. And in the light of what these men had done just minutes before, the people's reaction was quite understandable. Many of them had had friends or family in Pforzheim.

Nemo Holemaker Yea, pretty much that. When I was in 10th grade (our third year of guilt lessons), three boys from my school were almost expelled because they hit a younger boy and the boy came crying to the headmaster claiming "they did it just because I'm a Jew!" The headmaster and our teachers were so enraged they didn't even allow the boys to speak for themselves. I, though, had seen what had happened, which was that the boy had teased, punched and insulted the three boys from my class over a course of weeks until they finally decided that enough was enough. But the boy claiming to be a Jew was enough to make everyone assume he could be nothing but a victim. That's how deep German guilt goes even today. Also, to add insult to injury, it turned out that the boy wasn't Jewish at all.
