Back in the 80's, when this was played on radio, we all thought he was a black singer, that is the true definition of crossover - no wonder it's quite possibly the best Hip-Hop sample ever

He did a great collaboration with Patty Labelle called on my own,its a great song.

He has a song from a Billy Crystal\Gregory Hines film "Running Scared" called Sweet Freedom.

He was in the Doobie Brothers as others have said, and sings lead on “What a Fool Believes”, “Takin’ it To The Streets”, and “Minute By Minute. You’ll also recognize his voice in the background of Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like The Wind”, Steely Dan’s “Peg”, and Kenny Loggins’ “This Is It” and “Whenever I Call You Friend”. He’s a great keyboardist, too! And his sister Maureen is singing the female vocals on this song.

Michael sung lead in the late 70's for the Doobie Brothers did a lot of back up vocals for different groups like Steely Dan-Christopher Cross- Kenny Loggins-Sung Duets with Patti Labelle and James Ingram and others. Check his song out Real Love.☺

So sad the golden age of pop music ended years ago with songs like this almost forgotten! We were lucky to grow up hearing it all! You have great taste man, proving it’s never too late, keep spreading the word brother!

I'd like to see your reaction to the song "Minute By Minute". He sang lead on it while he was with the Doobie Brothers. The intro is a favorite of mine.

What hasn’t this man done? He’s lent his voice to The Dooby Brothers, Steely Dan and duetted with so many top class singers. His album If that’s what it takes is a real showcase of his talents, particularly the soulful ballad ‘I can let go now’. If you want to feel goosebumps J, I recommend this short, but oh so sweet masterpiece. 🥰

May I HIGHLY suggest Sade... I've been a longtime fan/admirer/drooling idiot of this beautiful, talented, beautiful, creative, beautiful, sultry (have I mentioned beautiful?) singer. She was most popular in the late 80's-90's, and her music and voice are unmistakable. I would strongly recommend "No Ordinary Love" and "Cherish the Day", both live versions (San Diego) if you can. She has a whole list of hits, these two are probably my favorites.

Very unique VOICE. I love that. When people are ORIGINAL and have no questions about how they should sound, and don’t try to copy anyone. So smoothe.

This and Real Love, my 2 favourite by Michael.

Kenny Loggins: "Heart to Heart" and "This is it". Trust me....

He backed up a lot of groups in the 70's and 80's as well as the Doobie Brother's as well as his solo work.

you gotta check out his MOTOWN cover album, he does about 12 of the all time great MOTOWN songs and he hits every one out of the park. this guy has soul.

She did a very beautiful job, but when Michael McDonald comes in w/the chorus, DAMN...... that man did an AWESOME JOB. May I suggest the Founding fathers of Funk. James Brown "Mother Popcorn" , Curtis Mayfield "Superfly" , Sly and Family Stone "Thank You"(Falettme Be Mice Elf Again) The song that gave birth to the slap bass, Parliament Funkadelic "P.Funk Wants To Get Funked Up". I grew up with classic Rock but sadly music was seriously segregated. We missed out on a lot of Funk. Pre disco-when the music was truly the bomb!!!!
