    All the guy did was strikeout, pop out,and occasionally hit a homerun. He was a terrible situational hitter,killed so many possible innings that could have turned into rallies. This had to be done.This guy could not take up a roster spot when you are trying to win a pennant.

    Ya gotta admire Kay for telling it like it is, but I would love to hear the reasoning that brought Gallo here in the first place, in exchange for 4 prospects??? Either Cashman's staff totally misread Gallo, or the hitter simply forgot how to hit.

    Lefty with great power and GG in the OF. Even with his mediocre .200 career batting avg, he could have easily been a 40+ HR guy in Yankee Stadium. Couldn't handle the spotlight, will probably flop in LA as well, not like the pressure will be any less.

  • @keng4847

    @keng4847

    2 жыл бұрын

    The reasoning was that Gallo was a left-handed hitter, with a lot of power, who hits a lot of HRs (he did with Texas), who might hit even more HRs as a left-handed power hitter in Yankee Stadium. And everybody and their cousin were crying that the Yankees were in desperate need for a left-handed power hitter at Yankee Stadium. That the Yankee lineup was much too right-handed. That their lack of strong left-handed bats was one of the Yankees biggest weaknesses. And even though he posts lousy BAs, he usually makes up for it by getting a lot of walks, which gives him a solid OBP. And he's plays a good defensive OF. He just stunk it up in NY, and wasn't close to the player he was in Texas. Btw I did not like Gallo coming to the Yankees. Because I've never been a Joey Gallo guy. But the logic behind the trade bringing Gallo to the Yankees is not that hard to understand.

    MLB is chock full of players just like Joey Gallo. When did it become okay to hit below the Mendoza Line and still keep your job? Gallo is an all or nothing hitter who has no clue on how to hit a pitch that isn't grooved down the middle to him. He's the perfect example of a batter who has a hole in his swing a mile wide, and only hits a home run when he walks into a pitcher's mistake. He won't be missed.

    Jose Serrano your right his take on Gallo was 100% accurate but as a Yankee fan you should also know Kay is a Yankees boy. When Pedro threw at Garcia & Zimmer charged Pedro & tried to punch him Kay said “Zimmer is a 80 year old man” ah no while Pedro was dead wrong for throwing at Garcia he let Zimmer off easy where you know Clemens would have done more damage. Kay while some of his takes are legit he has 0 credibility with me cause at times he’s the hometown announcer up the butt of his employer. I don’t respect that whats so ever tell the truth.

    I have no idea what Kay is talking about. Every interview Gallo gave he talked about his disappointment in himself! He never said the booing caused it or he wasn’t supported. Yes he was down at the end because he knew it was over and he was going. He’s a human being! Is he supposed to feel good about the past year? By the way as bad as he was the Yankees played great the first half. Now they’re a shell of that first half team. People were comparing them to the 98 team and I knew they were not that team. This team had pitchers throwing like they were Koufax. They are not and they regressed back to their level which is mostly mediocre. They won’t get past the Astros and Cashman’s trade for an injured outfielder in exchange for a 4th or a 5th starter and putting Sevi on the 60 day IL when he seems to have only needed 30 days didn’t help.

I think the guy needs time at AAA to work on his approach at the plate. He walks a lot. If he coud just hit .230 with power, he could play just about anywhere. That is today's MLB.

    It was clear that Joey Gallo did not fit in the Yankees for refusing to adjust. The team is competing for World Series and he was the odd man in the group. I will not deny he had power, but his batting average was atrocious and was striking out at the majority. This is a lesson he has to learn about listening to your batting coaches.

    Actually those coaches may have helpe,d screw him up. Let's see Joey. What shall we work on? We want more contact, fewer strikeouts. They tried to turn him into a .230 hitter. He is a .200 hitter who proceeded to hit .160 for a year. Clearly a career-challenging slump. But it was never about him being a good hitter. He just isn't. He is an extreme hitter. Lots of HRs. Lots of walks (which gave him a high OBP). But for the past year, about the only thing he did as predicted was walk.

    ok - I agree. On the other hand. I found it sickening when these same guys were defending Gary Sanchez or making his routine plays sound extraordinary to sugar coat what a totally lousy defensive and unintelligent he was. Cole, is not making the marathon of baseball. The season isn't even over yet. In the advent of the post or 2nd season, I will eat my hat if the tank does not continue to evaporate. I don't know if it is physical ( they will find some way to call it that ) or if it is in his head - but he is not looking too good in the last laps of this season. 6 runs before a single out is recorded today. He deserves to be boo-ed and please -with the Sanchez type cover ups and excuses. Cole is sucking wind and it is so hard to witness. I can't watch a game the he is pitching in anymore. Too painful. At best, he is now a decent number 2 pitcher. We all have to modify our expectations. Gallo - sure he was lousy. But there is way enough lousy to go around.

There are certain personalities who can not take the booing and they just perform worse - Eddie Lee Whitson, Blockhead Knoblauch, Randy Johnson, etc. ... add Gallo to that list.
