--------
Michael Jai White shared his views on winning street fights. Discussing former Army sniper Nicholas Irving's advice, he agreed on the standpoint of aiming to walk away as the best initial method to deal with the unpredictable situation. Irving suggested if self-defense becomes necessary, use a protective object like pepper spray and target vulnerable body parts, and to be ruthless. In contrast, White criticized this strategy, pointing out real-life fights are unpredictable and constantly moving, making targeting specific areas difficult. White suggests the mental preparedness to fight back is essential in protecting oneself. He proposed hitting directly to the center of the face, using a palm heel for self-defense, then retreating as fast as possible would be a useful basic technique, and learning how to give a leg kick could also be beneficial.

Let them think that you're weak. Play the act because deception is the best way to win, And should always be the first move before anything. You have to fool your enemy again, read the book out of war. Your brain will win first, before anything. That's what you got to control first in a fight. It's like playing chess.

    I’m in my late 50’s and was recently in a very very dangerous predicament and the only thing that kept me safe from not getting attacked was exactly what MJW said. I was able to immediately flip the switch and counter the dangerous aggression of the opponent by showing him my rage and eagerness to engage him in combat. He was much younger, slightly bigger(I’m 6’3 255 lbs) and definitely in better shape than me. But he was so shocked at my aggressive reaction that it made him hesitate and think “why is this guy so not scared?” This was just enough hesitation for me to gain a temporary advantage and diffuse and walk away. Make no mistake if he didn’t hesitate I was a second away from attacking and then trying to get away but he is right that mindset of “I will fucking kill u” might give u an opportunity to survive!!

    MJW speaking facts. Best way to defend yourself in a Street fight is not getting into one in the first place. Watch your environment and have situational awareness. But if you find yourself backed against a wall, with no other choice. Yes, that kill switch must go on and you must fight with the intensity of trying to survive. Try to avoid it at all cost but if it can’t be avoided, you have to go all out! Until the threat is neutralized and unable to stop you from walking away. You know what’s in your heart, you don’t know what that other person is thinking, so you have to do what you have to do!

    #1 rule in a street fight never engage in it unless you’re willing to go all the way for example if you put someone in a chokehold to stop them they immediately think they’re being choked to death so if they pull out a knife now what was a simple fight is now a fight to the death……if it’s not worth going all the way then don’t even do it most of the time it’s not worth it

    He is absolutely correct about striking with the palm. and effecting the eyes and nose. A secondary and extremely important benefit of doing that is, when and if you are forced to fight the second battle in court, having your hand open makes a huge difference in the perception of whether or not you were defending yourself or being the aggressor. It looks like a non aggressive defensive posture, where as, punching with a closed fist can be considered "overly aggressive" or "excessive force" by the court.

  • @KtotheG

    @KtotheG

    The main reservations I have about the open palm punch is that you can leave your body open for a counter attack, especially if you're slow... and what happens if they grab your arm? I would just stick and move. Staying in shape is always a good defense.

    Statistically speaking? It is not. Even if you include a woman with a weapon, there's a higher chance of it being used against her. Just run, or hide in the bathroom or anywhere else, till its all over. If you're being attacked, just ragdoll and chances (which is actually more likely) that someone will come to your aid. You are not Ronda Rousey (who got beat up by her husband) or Leyla Ali. Best advice for women; don't hangout with those types of men, or leave the even early.

    I have used a line three times during a confrontation that was on the verge of becoming physical that fortunately shut everything down toward guys that were starting the problem and that was looking them in the eye and saying, " If you put hands on me one of us is going to prison." every time they hesitated and then deescalated and they backed off. Now, will that work every time no, but they have to believe what is in your eyes when you make a statement like that, and you have to be willing to do what you have to do because there are no rules in a street fight only consequences. He is correct talking about that switch between the ears and just be willing to do what the other guy is not willing to do. I have always looked at a guy's ring finger to see if he is married and actually brought it up during a confrontation and said, " you are married with kids buddy and I am not, think about it and let this shit go man" and they pumped the brakes, and everything stopped. My conceal carry license is a last resort. that's my two cents.

    I lost my eye two fights ago in the parish jail. I have to think about that every time i get into conflict for the rest of my life. I only have one eye left and you will not get it easily. In some ways, it has made me very proactive in assessing whether someone wants trouble. I typically try and get away from the problem but before i even look for an escape, i think of how to defend myself first if it goes down.

    An even better first defense than walking away though is just being 'That Dude'. MJW kind of says the same thing with 'turning the switch', but that's more showing the person you CAN be 'That Dude', I'm saying it's best to have your reputation precede you, so they already know before anything happens. This is an example of what SunTzu talked about when he told us it's better to win 1,000 battles before ever fighting; what Shakespeare talked about when he told us to kill the viper while it's still in the egg. Real talk.

    Not necessarily. Being "the dude" with a reputation can actually attract violence. There's always someone else that thinks they're "that dude" as well and can't wait. to test you just to get a rep (Guru- Gangstarr). Having a rep means you've been involved in enough altercations that people know you which probably means you have enemies as well, which can just bring more violence. Being "that dude" can and should be being cal enough under stress that you don't need to prove it. You can send the message that you're not to be f****d with by looking a person in the eye and remaining calm. You do't want it, but you're not scared either.

    Thats not very realistic though for the majority of people. Most people aren't or can't be "that dude." Especially not on a level where a random person would know you like that. You yourself could be "that dude," but I for example, don't know anything about you, never heard of you, nor have I ever seen you before. So if we got into a random altercation, how would I know you "that dude" beforehand.

Like, my cousins, if a total stranger is talking ish to the person standing behind them and they think they're talking to them, there is no, 'I don't even know you', no, 'Are you talking to me?' they're just straight 'F--- you too, n----'. Whereas I'd be like, 'Wait, what?' Like, I'd assume there was some mistake first, whereas they're automatically on some 'answer questions later' stuff. It's up to the other person to be like, 'I was talking to that guy, not you'. Which makes sense. And when they say that, you just say, 'We cool. I only said that cuz I thought you was talking to me.'

Once the fight starts, IF you didn't get off first, then you have to deal with a moving target. It's the equivalent of getting "stole" on. That target is also basically stationary.
