--------
Michael Jai White shared his views on winning street fights. Discussing former Army sniper Nicholas Irving's advice, he agreed on the standpoint of aiming to walk away as the best initial method to deal with the unpredictable situation. Irving suggested if self-defense becomes necessary, use a protective object like pepper spray and target vulnerable body parts, and to be ruthless. In contrast, White criticized this strategy, pointing out real-life fights are unpredictable and constantly moving, making targeting specific areas difficult. White suggests the mental preparedness to fight back is essential in protecting oneself. He proposed hitting directly to the center of the face, using a palm heel for self-defense, then retreating as fast as possible would be a useful basic technique, and learning how to give a leg kick could also be beneficial.

First thing is get your cardio up before altercation even happens. When two untrained guys clash, the loser is usually the one that runs out of breath first.

Read or listen to the "Art of War"book. Strike when your enemy thinks you're weak. We don't have a nose that can smell fear. It's the person brain that thinks that you're afraid. Let them think that you're weak. Play the act because deception is the best way to win, And should always be the first move before anything. You have to fool your enemy again, read the book out of war. Your brain will win first, before anything. That's what you got to control first in a fight. It's like playing chess.
If walking away won't work and it's an unfair battle that I can't win or if I'm being jumped I'm gonna grab the nearest weapon.

I know exactly what you mean. Especially when your opponents rage level is ten times higher than yours. 😂
I’m in my late 50’s and was recently in a very very dangerous predicament and the only thing that kept me safe from not getting attacked was exactly what MJW said. I was able to immediately flip the switch and counter the dangerous aggression of the opponent by showing him my rage and eagerness to engage him in combat. He was much younger, slightly bigger(I’m 6’3 255 lbs) and definitely in better shape than me. But he was so shocked at my aggressive reaction that it made him hesitate and think “why is this guy so not scared?” This was just enough hesitation for me to gain a temporary advantage and diffuse and walk away. Make no mistake if he didn’t hesitate I was a second away from attacking and then trying to get away but he is right that mindset of “I will fucking kill u” might give u an opportunity to survive!!

The difference is this man doesn't get on the Internet trolling people to come after him so he can use his "self defense"...💯
MJW speaking facts. Best way to defend yourself in a Street fight is not getting into one in the first place. Watch your environment and have situational awareness. But if you find yourself backed against a wall, with no other choice. Yes, that kill switch must go on and you must fight with the intensity of trying to survive. Try to avoid it at all cost but if it can’t be avoided, you have to go all out! Until the threat is neutralized and unable to stop you from walking away. You know what’s in your heart, you don’t know what that other person is thinking, so you have to do what you have to do!
I agree with Micheal Jai White💯
So true....I avoided so many altercations because I was neither afraid ..nor hostile....being neutral makes a lot of people pause.
I really like Michael Jai White's philosophy. I've always felt at least half the strategy is mental, emotional and intent. All the training in the world isn't much good w/out "The Switch" that he is talking about. Good stuff. Absolutely critical
#1 rule in a street fight never engage in it unless you’re willing to go all the way for example if you put someone in a chokehold to stop them they immediately think they’re being choked to death so if they pull out a knife now what was a simple fight is now a fight to the death……if it’s not worth going all the way then don’t even do it most of the time it’s not worth it

He is absolutely correct about striking with the palm. and effecting the eyes and nose. A secondary and extremely important benefit of doing that is, when and if you are forced to fight the second battle in court, having your hand open makes a huge difference in the perception of whether or not you were defending yourself or being the aggressor. It looks like a non aggressive defensive posture, where as, punching with a closed fist can be considered "overly aggressive" or "excessive force" by the court.
@KtotheG
Ай бұрын
The main reservations I have about the open palm punch is that you can leave your body open for a counter attack, especially if you're slow... and what happens if they grab your arm? I would just stick and move. Staying in shape is always a good defense.
@jamesramondetta
Ай бұрын
@@KtotheG Yes. For me, it's a calculated posture that looks defensive, but is actually designed for quick and effective strikes. Statistically speaking? It is not. Even if you include a woman with a weapon, there's a higher chance of it being used against her. Just run, or hide in the bathroom or anywhere else, till its all over. If you're being attacked, just ragdoll and chances (which is actually more likely) that someone will come to your aid. You are not Ronda Rousey (who got beat up by her husband) or Leyla Ali. Best advice for women; don't hangout with those types of men, or leave the even early.

I like this
Know when to engage & go for the knockout quick. 👊
I have used a line three times during a confrontation that was on the verge of becoming physical that fortunately shut everything down toward guys that were starting the problem and that was looking them in the eye and saying, " If you put hands on me one of us is going to prison." every time they hesitated and then deescalated and they backed off. Now, will that work every time no, but they have to believe what is in your eyes when you make a statement like that, and you have to be willing to do what you have to do because there are no rules in a street fight only consequences. He is correct talking about that switch between the ears and just be willing to do what the other guy is not willing to do. I have always looked at a guy's ring finger to see if he is married and actually brought it up during a confrontation and said, " you are married with kids buddy and I am not, think about it and let this shit go man" and they pumped the brakes, and everything stopped. My conceal carry license is a last resort. that's my two cents.

An even better first defense than walking away though is just being 'That Dude'. MJW kind of says the same thing with 'turning the switch', but that's more showing the person you CAN be 'That Dude', I'm saying it's best to have your reputation precede you, so they already know before anything happens. This is an example of what SunTzu talked about when he told us it's better to win 1,000 battles before ever fighting; what Shakespeare talked about when he told us to kill the viper while it's still in the egg. Not necessarily. Being "the dude" with a reputation can actually attract violence. There's always someone else that thinks they're "that dude" as well and can't wait. to test you just to get a rep (Guru- Gangstarr). Having a rep means you've been involved in enough altercations that people know you which probably means you have enemies as well, which can just bring more violence. Being "that dude" can and should be being cal enough under stress that you don't need to prove it. You can send the message that you're not to be f****d with by looking a person in the eye and remaining calm. You do't want it, but you're not scared either.

So if we got into a random altercation, how would I know you "that dude" beforehand.

Walk away but don't turn your back on the person. If its gotto go down , then he's right, flip that switch and turn into the aggressor. Get that cardio up, head down hands up and throw those punches in bunches.

The realest response from Michael Jai White!
I noticed people from the hood are better at instantly returning 'fire with fire' than middle class folks like me. Like, my cousins, if a total stranger is talking ish to the person standing behind them and they think they're talking to them, there is no, 'I don't even know you', no, 'Are you talking to me?' they're just straight 'F--- you too, n----'. Whereas I'd be like, 'Wait, what?' Like, I'd assume there was some mistake first, whereas they're automatically on some 'answer questions later' stuff. It's up to the other person to be like, 'I was talking to that guy, not you'. Which makes sense. And when they say that, you just say, 'We cool. I only said that cuz I thought you was talking to me.'
That open palm technique is solid gold knowledge👌🏽Look up Uechi Ryu Karate.
Walking away isn’t a move. Staying calm is
Psalms 119:66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
Thanks so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I liked his advice at the end about a leg kick. I did many ears of kyokushin, most people who are kicked in the leg even if onl 50% power, really struggle with the pain. And it will stop them chasinyou too.
Mic always so humble
At the beginning of the fight, especially if you're pretending to want to talk it out, the opponent is in fact stationary. Once the fight starts, IF you didn't get off first, then you have to deal with a moving target. It's the equivalent of getting "stole" on. That target is also basically stationary.
Best advice ever just walk away
This guy is really interesting to listen, only say things that have sense & are logic.
Peace
I've been a fighter all my life and all my fights were in the street, bars, alleys, etc. He's so right about real shit. If it's going to kick off? You got to be prepared to strike with extreme prejudice. Also I've said forever, that your intelligence is your best weapon. Don’t fight. That’s the best way to “win” There’s nothing glamorous about violence. Even Bruce Lee said it. Lee said if it ever gets to the point when you’re actually fighting, then you’ve already lost. RIP, Bruce Lee.

That's how all the real great martial artists feel. You only use your arts to defend yourself and when necessary. A weak man will look to show off

They are saying the problem is when you can't walk away and you have to defend yourself.

@@terrencetysor9956 True. However, some people can’t make that distinction. That’s why there are people in our society that sees fighting and violence as a way to resolve conflicts.
I'd love to train with MJW. I don't ever see any bs when it comes to fighting from him.
A good ol fashioned “yo stay right here” and bounce 🤓🤣
Thats the issue with martial arts nobody is going to be stagnant and let you do what you e learned its just an art form applied correctly it can work to a certain extent. Its really on the practitioner on how its used. All valid points where made in dis vid
I agree with the mental part. Being aware & recognizing what it is. No point in trying to negotiate with a person who has already made a decision to harm you.

eye for an eye. some people may only take the street fight as far as you do but you have to be willing to take it all the way mannn
Palm technic 🖐🏻interesting
Michael Jai White is spot on!!!
Crazy
Michael Jai White is such the real deal. Would love to meet him, he's really seems like a man of integrity.
Interesting topic. I was almost in a street fight...Was working security at a concert in Pontiac, Michigan and kept getting spoken to like I was a piece of scum. Had to read the riot act to and had to go walk for a hour and simmer down
Always start with a hard front knee kick then uppercut
The throat and groin as he explained was even when you’re moving around he never said it as Michael described but we understand what he meant. Simply walk away because there’s always that one person that has nothing to lose and will kill but if you know how to defend yourself and it’s one on one you can submit the person and wait for the cops to take care of him. That’s in an ideal situation but hope no one ever gets to that point to have a street fight, stay safe fellas and god bless 🙏🏼

MJW is saying that your opponent has to be stationary if you're an amateur and you want a good chance to hit those targets, because you can aim all you want and miss. Then when you miss against a skilled or experienced fighter, that can be dangerous. He gave you options that reduce the chance of you missing.
🥊 👀 See that Vlad wrote all those self-protection instructions down!
My father told me as a kid, there are NO RULES to a street fight. There is no Rule Book, if there is, show it to me.
You have to keep in mind ( coming from a former street dude) 95% don't know how to fight. Military martial arts training is much more intense than the Dojo training. I've done both.

I can't speak for the Marines, but army combatives is a joke.
The Solar Plex is a dirty game if u get hit there. No wind for about 10 to 15 seconds not to mention it in pain
My cousin used to come home broken hand, broken foot from getting in fights on the block, he was winning but with a cost. So one day he comes home with broken hand and his mom says son, they don't ask how you won the fight but who won the fight, let that marinate.
RUNNNN!!
I'd love to see MJW in a fight. Even if just an exhibition. I want to see what he is really up to.
Think fast and sober 💪🏽
It’s all about pain tolerance. Theirs some people that claim they want to “fight” by throwing some hands for a couple minutes and others break it up and they leave. Theirs others that actually LIKE pain… if you come across someone who embraces pain.. get ready, because your life is on the line.
I remember I won my first fight in high school cause of this dude no cap! I would study his video he did w kimbo slice talking about his technique and always moving your body foward in one motion and being non telegraphic w your movements. I was obsessed cause I was in boxing club coming up. But anyways yeah the fight had barely started and I got the dude with a jab right in the nose and it was over, nose started leaking. I’m js this dude know what he talking about 😂
Our thinking needs to change as we age.
Groin kicks can work. Especially, if you are in clinch. Getting knees in the balls is no picnic
100% all the way accurate
Leg Kick is big.. Including striking the knee

Yeah, I kick kneecaps every time a foot was planted in street fights you’d be surprised the reaction to that from a normal person maintaining the distance because I’m 6’3 to use my reach. Right above or on the kneecap 😌. Change a n!qqa attitude quick when he tries that rushing sh;t or blitz you. I’m not fond of attempting leg kick I’ll F*ck around kick and miss then catch one 😂🙅🏿♂️
Hand open. Agree. What about breaking a finger as a first counterattack?
Run

I think this video is really more for those who want to roam and gets hold up. people need to learn how to defend themselves
