I actually had the honor of spending a few days at Neverland (Chris Tucker was a friend), and in the room where MJ practiced his dance moves, he'd worn away part of the floor where he always did his spins lol. Everything he did always looked so spontaneous when he performed it, but he would dance until he dropped while other performers were out partying etc.

@@clint1144 If I hadn't lived it, I probably wouldn't believe it either lol. I became friends with CT when he first moved to LA, and then a decade+ later I was a screenwriter, and he wanted to get some of his own thoughts down on paper, and we went to Neverland to work. He didn't even tell me where we were going until we were halfway there, and I wasn't supposed to tell anybody. Did we work? NOT AT ALL! LOL There was too much fun to be had! MJ wasn't in town, and we were only supposed to be there for a couple of days, but we ended up staying 5 and MJ came home. Got to see him be a regular dad to Prince and Paris (5 and 4 at the time. Blanket was an infant, but the world didn't know about him yet).

Finally someone capable to notice the spectacular sense of aesthetics in this video. I am not a model or had anything to do with filmography or photography in my life but i always found it weird that reactors always failed to mentioned the work they did in creating this atmosphere. Also, let me tell you that Michael became a full vegan around this time. He spent most of his life barely meeting his calories needs and became a very picky eater as time went on as well as an intermittent fasting enthusiast. He was underweight for long periods of time and it became a real issue for people around him. With the psychological trauma he developed during his trials he was full on anorexic. His death had also to do with him being very weak. The drugs he took would have never killed him if he had more weight and food on his belly. Sadly, he had eaten nothing and the autopsy stated he only had ingested drugs recently. Finally, Michael WAS a proper actor. Both in movies and theatrical. You can also google for Michael's drawings. It's clear that if he had classical training he would have became a very good artist in that area too. Ironically, Michael never learned to play instruments. All his musical writing and rhythmical construction was done with his voice and beatboxing. He was for sure a genius too big for this world.

Actually he did play instruments such as synthesizers, piano, keyboard, drums and guitar he just couldn't read musical notes, but he could lay down a song note by note.

Sorry, but you are totally wrong : he didn't die for the drugs he took. He died because a murderer put in his body the amount of 25 bottles of propofol and killed him (4006 mgs in autopsy, with "homicide" as the cause of death). BTW he was not vegan in that period. He was a vegetarian since he was 14, UNTIL that period. His favourite food was KFC, which he even cooked himself for his kids. More : he played guitar (you can see in the backstage of the scream video, some pics too, of him with him playing it), he played the piano (u can see in some home clips here on YT; one of his chefs said he sometimes played the piano while she cooked to make her feel good vibes) and he played percussions (the Don't stop til u get enough percussion's set is Michael's playing it). Don't believe tabloid junkie, sweetie ;) big hug ❤

One my favorite moments in this video was when he did the lean and broke it down into another dance, timing with it each forward. Michael Jackson is legendary and he will always be remembered. Love his music, his dancing, and his whole persona.

I used to own the extended version of this music video on VHS when I was young and if you watch the full version of "Smooth Criminal", like "Thriller", it's a whole mini movie with Michael not only doing the club scene, but interacting with the two kids before it as well and coming to their rescue at the end after they're grabbed by the stormtrooper type guys outside the club. Smooth Criminal became part of an anthology music film which was released in Theaters in Europe in 1988 called "Moonwalker". The theatrical release included this video and a number of others from across his career up to this point. In the US, for some reason, it went straight to video.

Some interesting info. The lean was done by way of special shoes which have a grove cut on the heel that can then clip into a nail on the ground. Cresting the anti gravity affect. The video was a tribute to the great Fred astire who did a movie called the band wagon where he does a similar scene as this in his movie wearing the same suit.

@@Milkers777that's what make MJ amazing his fans see his greatness in different ways. I love Beat It because it edgy, raw, real, and authentic...no tricks or gimmicks. Some real gang members who actually got into minor scuffles on the set. You can see some missteps in their choreography but that's what makes it brilliant, its like being perfect in your imperfection.

In all the reaction videos I have seen for this video you are the ONLY person to point out that although Michael was an iconic talent the dancers in the video also did the famous move of leaning almost touching the floor. So thank you for pointing that out because the dancers in this video never get the credit they deserve.

This is my favourite MJ track. One of his heroes was the legendary dancer Fred Astaire, and he took inspiration for his outfit and some other elements of this video from Astaire's 1953 musical movie "The Band Wagon".
