The decorative nuances and breathing embellishments act as if some sort of punctuation to the melody. Relishes locked into the rhythm so incredibly fantastic it’s like its natural sounding or as you suggested ‘pure’. It’s sparse enough to be minimalist yet in a sophisticated enough manner to be undeniably recognizable as his own sound. I find it interesting to hear other musicians sing the same songs as him and while there’s plenty who can really sing and arguably equally ‘pure’, I haven’t heard anyone apply what Michael does that takes R&B or Pop songs to the epitome of what’s possible vocally. I’m not a singer but I can appreciate the guy definitely has developed this ‘instrument’ called voice to what became a timeless and universally enjoyable celebrated experience that I doubt will ever be forgotten by mankind. Bach like status if ya know what I mean. People be diggin this 300, 3000 to 30,000 years from now I can totally imagine.

This is a phenomenal song. Why this wasn’t a single is beyond me?? Stevie, Susaye, Quincy and MJ are pure classic magic. But the way this song was mixed is genius too. The elements are balanced in a way that sets such a mood. The drumming on this song is fantastic as well.

Two Legends in the World! Two of the biggest names in entertainment! Two world class entertainers. Missing MJ ( RIP) but lucky Stevie still here!
This song is a classic, and it may be the best song from the "Off The Wall" album just for the simple fact that this song is the closet Michael Jackson ever sung a jazz oriented track.
Mike has many but this is definitely in my Top 3. This is a Masterpiece.
Off the Wall and Thriller are to of the greatest albums of All times!!
Holy crap, as a kid I've always been a huge fan of his mainstream songs, but it took me 13 years since to find this masterpiece?!

My three favorite songs of that album are #3 Rock With You, #2 Off The Wall, and #1 I Can't Help It. I love that album which turns 43 this year.
Thriller (1982) was more successful commercially but I always thought Off The Wall (1979) was the better album.

Written By Stevie Wonder Vocals By Michael Jackson Produced By Quincy Jones = Masterpiece
Elastic bass, elastic synth chords, elastic lead, dreamy rhodes, lovely background strings, the baseline for a great tune.
Still one of the best singers of all, MJ forever ❤
