    MJ and Rodney Jenkins wrote a great album that was fresh for 99, but MJ stalled, so it wasn’t so fresh in 2000 as Jenkins gave that sound to other artists. So MJ ended up getting songwriters from the Dangerous era. That’s why the album is a mess with no cohesion.

    Started in *1994* - as the lyrics give a hint. Stuck with an *Early Mix/Demo* in 1995. Pulled out again later in *1999.* This was mixed for the last time in *2004* - with no actual change besides the mixing: just like *Beautiful Girl* or *The Way You Love Me.* *In The Back* was *mainly reworked around 1999/2000 during Invincible Sessions.* It was supposed to be reworked any time after. If this does not belong to *Invincible,* than Earth Song and They Don't Care About Us don't belong to HIStory and Another Part of Me not to Bad. In The Back - Could Be A Good Duet. What Do You Say?

    I wish he finished this song. I know that it probably became ''Serious Effect'' but I enjoy this version a lot more. This honestly had the potential to be among my favorite songs of his. That chorus is to die for, and don't get me started on the instrumental.

  • @jenslamer7811

    @jenslamer7811

    _Serious Effect_ ? As far as I know, _Serious Effect_ was created during the _Dangerous_ sessions? I think Michael used, at least partially, a part of _In the Back_ in another song! I think it was _They Don't Care About Us_ ! The bass line which we can hear in _In the Back_ is used in _They Don't Care About_ as the famous aggressive guitar part/bridge in the middle of the song! But just a little faster, though. But the melody still remains almost the same, in my opinion. :)

  • @AntiRiku

    @AntiRiku

    6 жыл бұрын

    You're right, man. I saw a few people say that this turned into ''Serious Effect'' so I just assumed that they knew what they were talking about. However, I forgot about the fact that ''Serious Effect'' was supposed to be on Dangerous, while this one was supposed to be on HIStory, if I'm not mistaken. Also, I went back and listened to that specific part in They Don't Care About Us, and you might be onto something. They do sound extremely similar.

  • @jenslamer7811

    @jenslamer7811

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I think there are indeed certain parallels between ITB and TDCAU, at least the bass line of ITC appearing in TDCAU as the guitar part. :) As far as I know I am the only fan who seems to have noticed this; I have never read or heard of anybody else write or talk about this. I think Michael indeed used the same or at least very similar, respectively, melody twice. :) Michael himself confirmed once that he used melody parts in other songs, too. :) But there are other, barely discussed examples, too! Can you recognize a certain similarity between _Invincible_ and _Chicago/She Was Loving Me_ ? The sequence "Then I'll be showing you what other men are supposed to do for you my baby" known from _Invincible_ reappears in _Chicago/She Was Loving Me_ in the part "She lied to you lied to me, cause she was lovin me lovin me, yeah". :)

  • @AntiRiku

    @AntiRiku

    6 жыл бұрын

    You're right again, there is certainly a similarity between those two parts in Invincible and She Was Loving Me. You have a good ear. They do have a similar cadence. However, the first similarity that you drew, between In The Back and They Don't Care About Us, is still the strongest similarity. Now, that one completely blew my mind. I'm still trying to process it. No wonder I love both of them. Also, do you have any other examples?

  • @jenslamer7811

    @jenslamer7811

    6 жыл бұрын

    @ Anti Riku: Thank you for your feedback! :) You seem to be one of the very few people who obviously can follow my thoughts! :) How do you evaluate _Price of Fame_ ? I love the song, even though I think one reason, among others, why Michael did not use/release it, was it being too similar to _Billie Jean_ ? ;) Another fan once said interestingly that to him (the fan ;)) _Price of Fame_ is something like "the middle" between _Billie Jean_ and _Who Is It_ . I'm sure you noticed the parallels between BJ and WII, too, and Michael even reused the certain part of melody in _We've Had Enough_ , in my opinion. ("You saw he didn't run, and then my daddy had no gun" / "Why did these soldiers come here for? If they're for peace why is there war? etc.) I considered one example of MJ reusing his own melodies particularly interesting which Michael himself pointed out in 1994: The parallel between _Dangerous_ and _Another Part of Me_ : Michael revealed that the sequence "But you're no damn lover friend of mine!" is almost the same as the chorus of APOM: "You're just another part of me!" ... I think, in this case, I wouldn't have noticed that unless Michael himself had revealed it! ;) :) My personal big theory is that _Smooth Criminal_ was evolved from _Billie Jean_ ... I got that theory for the first time in 2012 when _Al Capone_ was finally released ... (Absolutely gigantic, in my opinion, I adore this song ...) I think _Al Capone_ remained unreleased until 2012 (and never released in MJ's lifetime) because it reminded too much of _Billie Jean_ ... (But also a little of _Eaten Alive_ ! Just compare the chorus of _Al Capone_ with the one of _Eaten Alive_ ! ;) :)) Just listen for instance to the instrumental bridge of _Al Capone_ ... This is nothing else but the melody of the _Billie Jean_ chords! Also the verses reproduce the _Billie Jean_ chords, even though much deeper here ... In my opinion, this was another time Michael tried to make something new out of _Billie Jean_ ... ;) In _Smooth Criminal_ , finally, _Billie Jean_ is almost not recognizable any longer, that's why Michael decided to release it, I think ... ;) :) What do _you_ think of all that? ;) I'm curious about your feedback! :)

    True, this song was conceived in 1994, recorded in 1995 and reworked for Invincible sessions. But I think it got re-recorded again just before The Ultimate Collection release, in late 2004, in order to cope with the Arvizo allegations.
