This one and one he did in 1993 again with the gaithers were his best performances. The 1993 one has better quality sound.

Michael English is a man with Purpose even with all he’s been through. His voice is Heavenly. Praise God. Today this song popped in my head and I know without a doubt it was God. wow! i am a latecomer to Southern gospel music and i think Michael English is like fine wine the older he gets the better he gets! Because of GVB i even know who he is, and now that he's back i don't know? GVB is totally my favorite the lineup right now is my favorite but i would love to throw russ taff back in there too!

David Phelps is awesome! I got into GVB in the early 90's when Michael came into his prime. Saw him at Prestonwood Baptist Church in north Dallas in 1991 and was just blown away by the power of the Holy Spirit through his voice. What gets me is when people start comparing Michael and David like this is some sort of competition? God can't be pleased by that. No one sings like David and no one sings like Michael. They each are an incredible asset to the Kingdom of God!

I know, I know... it's just that I have such a heart for Michael. I think it's because he sings with such conviction and soul, and emotion. David is an incredible singer, one of the very best... still, Michael. His voice radiates to my very soul. His story is heart wrenching and his testimony breaks my heart. I don't know what I love more about Michael, his voice or his story. It's a perfect storm for me.

@@MickyGeeGee eh idk, David could resonate clearly at an E flat 5, modern Michael English can get the C and I never heard prime Michael get above the b right below it. They're just different sounding. David is more gentle and can be powerful in telling stories, Michael is bigger and more powerful and toys with more gentle emotions

I see his emotion as true and genuine, in fact it seems difficult most times for him to keep his emotions in tact.. so it comes out in his singing. I venture to bet that a lot of his life issues occurred BECAUSE he struggles to control his emotions, IMHO of course. BTW pisan, I'm Sicilian.. Ricottone. Italian/Sicilian surnames are so musical.. yours is a whole symphony 😉

I met these guys in Glen Rose Texas when I was about 21....The Singing Americans. We were all so young. Mike had a killer voice and so did Rick Strickland. We actually had time to visit with them before the gospel singing as they were friends of my family. They were the sweetest guys you'll ever meet. I do remember giggling when Mike sang "I bowed...."on these old rugged knee's" and cried glory. He was in his early 20's. I'll never forget this song...or I know a Man.

I totally agree with you Vance. His voice makes my heart swell. I met him when I was about 21...he wasn't much older and he sang this, I was sitting 10 feet in front of him and it was as if he were singing it right to me. I cried like a baby. The Lord spoke through Mike right to me. I listen to this daily after my bout with cancer. It means the world to me.

Michael is one of the very best. If you listen to a performer in the very beginning of their career, as opposed to towards the end, their voices are much smoother in the early years. I think a large factor is that their voices are 'seasoned'. Yes, I am sure other things that happened in his life play factor too but Michael still has a powerful voice, not as smooth, but still very impressive.

Michael You're voice you can feel the anointing in every song you sing.

I saw him sing this at a tiny little place.....I remember crying like a baby. He was the ripe old age of 23. Unbelievable voice!!!

Ms. Anderson, any idea where Michael is now? It’s as if he dropped off the face of the earth.

I love this song, I listen to it almost everyday sometimes several times a day. I picture the words and when it talks about getting to heaven seeing the scenes,talking with Abraham ext but when it gets to the part where it says "take me to Jesus" I get so emotional because the very thought of getting to see Him is almost more than I can stand...I am so glad this song was written it holds such an intimate place in a person that seeks to meet our Jesus. And Michael sang it so beautiful

The first person to sing this song in the simular style was John Starnes and he sung it also with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and it gave me chills. I think that any singer when they sing a song will sing it in the way they feel it. It is like trying to compare the many translations of the Bible everyone relates better to one or the other but the bottom line is the important message they all carry which is the same, the message of God. We need to stay focus on the message that being sung.

And I to may not listen to this version everyday but ALMOST everyday the version that states, with the "Gaither Vocal Band ORIGINAL". In this video Mike is doning a dark tan tye with circles on it wearing no "sport coat".

This 2024 April does anyone know how Micheal is doing I pray he is well happy and serving God. He Blesses me when ever he sings

you are right, when I was brought down to nothing, I realized I had found it all, maybe I have planted a seed that somewhere down the road someone will water and he will see, as long as there is breath there is hope, how the tree falls is how it will land, Jesus doesn't want anyone to go to hell, that is why He died on the cross, once you know Him you can't help but tell others about Him, with God's love in your heart you love everyone and don't want to see anyone lost, rescue them with love.

Here's my opinion. Michael English back then, though smoother in sound, is straining his voice by pulling up his chest voice. Through the years Michael has learned to sing with his mix voice and is now singing higher notes with ease. That's just what I believe.

He probably knew how to do that before but knew he could squeeze out more power to the audience when we sang like that. There's a reason his high notes are so powerful back then. Now he doesn't have the power like he used to so he sings like any other singer normally would've

Jesus said we must be *born again.* God will forgive you all your sins if you just turn to Him in faith and repentance and live your life for Him, do the things He tells us to do in His word.
