Just goes to show Vince was the reason Cole was so insufferable on TV. The guy is charismatic and a great conversation. After 20+ years, I'm now a Michael Cole fan.

I mean think about it, if you had an old guy screaming in your ear in the back and you couldn't react to that screaming you'd probably be insufferable as well. 😂

I remember there were two instances when I realized that Vince was the problem. The first was when Cole had to call Lawler's heart attack. Cole's professionalism combined with his heart and ultimate enthusiasm when he announced Lawler would recover at the end of the show absolutely won me over as a Cole fan. The second was Cole's call at Beast in the East. Finally hearing Cole building up the matches as he saw them, building up wrestlers, even mentioning their work in Japan prior to WWE was a revelation. Having been a fan of Cole's work with Tazz when they called SmackDown - their call of Eddie Guerrero's (RIP) championship win over Brock Lesnar is still one of my favorite calls of all-time - I realized right then that all the insufferable, repetitive shilling during their regular matches had to be due to Vince. I'm so happy that we finally get to see an unleashed Cole on a regular basis.

I'm so happy for Michael Cole. For so many "smart" fans, Vince dictated how he wanted Cole to sound (which was essentially like himself). During the Smackdown Six Era Tazz and him were the best tandem in all of wrestling. Pat bought so much energy back to the booth and you could see it in Cole and here it from the broadcast booth as well.

For the past five years I couldn’t care less about college game day. Ever since Pat joined I literally have made it a staple of my Saturday morning. He really has added a lot of entertainment to that show
This was one of the best show they've had in a while. Cole was brilliant, and on top of Coach P's breakdowns made it almost a supershow.
Cole speaks for the people!!! Gameday use to be my favorite as a kid and kinda just got tired of it! Ever since they signed you Pat my alarm is set every morning at about 10:45/11am to make sure i get atleast an hour of gameday in!! Finally watchable again!
I've always liked Michael Cole. I've always had sympathy for him for the stupid things he's been through throughout his entire career. Since the change, he's definitly been happier & people are starting to see what people like me have seen & heard for years.

Heel Cole making a brief appearance.
Watching this & hearing about Pat talk about working in the WWE being his dream, it flashed in my head that George Kittle will almost certainly make the crossover to WWE, once he retires from football. Just imagine it for a second: You have someone that is quick & creative with the mouthpiece (witty / funny). Kittle is 6'4 tall and 250lbs , meaning he is the prototypical size for a wrestler. And if you've ever seen him play, he's surprisingly acrobatic - he can fly through the air with the kind of grace that should not be possible from a 250 lb man. He has always been a fan of the WWE. This is the era of crossover athletes, celebrities, and musicians in the WWE - even moreso than the 80s / 90s, when you'd see Mr. T. so Kittle seems only logical.

While JR and the King had these personas going with them (the good old boy and the horny heel) Cole was the everyman of the commentary crew and I think that's why we all like and relate to him. He laid down the matches as accessible as possible so people call follow along. I'm so glad that he's still around as the senior commentator to the others. It wouldn't be the same without Cole.
