I think this case speaks to the power of manipulation, gaslighting and selfishness. I have experienced gaslighting and I truly believe that’s the worst type of manipulation. During that time, I was so confused and eventually I started to believe there was something fundamentally wrong with me. It took me many years to realize what narcissistic manipulation was all about, in fact Dr. Grande’s videos were very instrumental in this learning process. I am glad Michael was found not guilty because the damage Lauran caused was real. She provoked and taunted him to his breaking point! Fantastic podcast as always! Thank you guys for your time and dedication, I truly appreciate. Much love.💜💜💜 @Mike- Thank you for the update on the socks! The Royal Lippizaners of Austria's Spanish Riding Academy do dance on two legs when performing to Schubert's Marche Militaire. You can see it on KZread or an old Disney movie about saving the stallions from the Nazi's. By the way General George S. Patton saved them from being sold off. Now they make money for Austria through the school and international shows. This and the Vienna Boys Choir were once part of the Hapsburg household.

I just hope these horses weren’t abused with the whole acid on the ankles of the horse, if you see the with bandages wrapped around there lower legs or ankles of the horse they literally pour acid on them and it’s extremely painful to the horse, long history of abuse dancing horses sadly so many don’t know that they are walking or “dancing” because there skin is melting off under the leg wrap’s. Even still today at Rodeo still practice this and it cruel and barbaric, and horse 🐴 they are SOO smart, you know? It’s really sad 😞 anyway just wanted to let ya all know?

I hope that Michael Barisone will find peace, sounds like he went through hell, the the wait in jail also and trial must have been awful for him. Although I hate to say it, but, .......it would make a great movie! Set in a beautiful countryside, stables and horses, with a slow release, gripping kind of tension to it. Was great listening to you guys again.😌🐴

I am so impressed how you three thoughtfully discussed so many aspects of this case, from the shoddy police work to the actual event to the dog to the prosecution witnesses ever changing testimonies to the absurd prosecution expert compared to the defense expert to the biased judge to the delay in proceeding with the case, etc. Thank you for a great podcast. I recently saw the 1959 movie "Anatomy of a Murder", and I was blown away by how good it was. I think it would make a great "The Movie Part". It covers so much of what you guys talk about: mental health professionals making conflicting diagnoses, malingering, the suspect reliability of jailhouse informants, the power of reasonable doubt. Plus the backstory of the guy who wrote the book it was based on is really interesting.

You guys, I loved the show tonight. I am fascinated by the Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria. If you look at a KZread video, make sure the performance is in a palatial looking setting. There are American knock-off shows that are nothing like the original. Mike, excellent closing points. She intentionally set out to mentally torture him. Consequences. Thanks to all of you for a great show. P.S Lipizzaners are the horses chess pieces are shaped like. They do something like the Michael Jackson moon walk on two feet. They could do the hokey pokey…put their left hooves in, take their left hooves out, put their left hooves in, and shake it all about Hitler once captured every living specimen of these historic war horses, and they were saved… stolen by a stealth joint military mission involving Canadian and U.S. forces, along with others. But I do go on. Love you guys

I always chuckle when you all discuss New Jersey. I also greatly enjoyed the coverage of dressage. Thank you for this light-hearted discussion of a serious case. I agree with Dr. Grande. This is a case where reasonable doubt existed regarding Barisone's shooting. Sadly the jury had to go with insanity because someone was shot. I have a question--has Mike made wedding plans? His fiancee sounds like a lovely "animal person." PS It's NJ--the horse needs a ballgown!

Mike's Fiancée here. As a horse girl, I couldn't help but add some information. @Jeff, Farm or Training Facility would be most appropriate for that kind of facility. @Todd, The Dressage movements are actually based on the types of movements horses do naturally. Also if you ever want to know just how much of a work out riding a horse can give you, you're more than welcome to come up and ride Bailey (the lazy dirt ball of a horse that Mike mentioned). He's super smooth and easy to ride and my legs are still screaming since I'm so out of shape after not being able to ride in the summer heat. Jeff, you're more than welcome to come up too. If you ever need an "expert" on equine related cases, just let me know. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions. Horse Dances - It might not be the Macarena or the Twist but look up the Lipizzaner Stallions and the Spanish Riding School of Vienna. Especially the Airs above the ground. These were all military movements based on keeping the horse's rider safe and moving through infantry. There is a fascinating and rich history in the sport of dressage. In fact it's included as part of a horsey triathlon of sorts (Three Day Eventing). Also, I have to say, the whole equine community is definitely crazy. I mean we voluntarily ride 1,200 - 1,600lb horses who could easily kill us. It's just a matter of what kind of crazy we are. But there's always drama.

Hey guys, love the podcast! I have a question which you may be able to answer. I am wondering if there are technical terms for skill patterns that use different parts of your brain. For instance observing a task being completed for compliance and actually performing the task. What comes to mind are the terms "managerial" and "skilled" but of course those terms have far reaching connotations and they don't address anything cognitive. I have worked in the rail industry for my entire career and when learn (for instance) how to run a train, one typically observes an engineer for a period of time before running a train themselves. I have noticed that once I'm in the position of actually running the train, I feel like I'm struggling to make the right decisions, even though I've been trained how to operate a train. I guess I feel like I'm using a different part of my brain and that takes some getting used to. Sorry this comment was so long! Cheers!

FYI: the highest amount ever paid for a dressage horse was approx 20 million Euro! It was for the multi Olympic Champion Totilas, ridden by Edward Gal for the Netherlands. Guess what? It was a German millionair who bought it for his son, so he could go for the Olympics. It’s been said that the real reason was that Germany didn’t want the Netherlands to win Gold on the Olympics, AGAIN. Well, it seems that Totilas never “danced” again as he could with Edward Gal… So, it’s not just the best horse, or the best rider, guys… It’s the combination and the love between the two that makes a championship worth Gold🇳🇱

Always a pleasure listening to you guys. Intelligence, “bad” jokes, interesting topics…Love listening in! 😊😊😊
Miss you guys! Hope to see you in new episodes soon!
Love the NJ humor. My bff is from there. She always talked about having to “get her car greased “. Come to find out she meant getting her oil changed! Who knew? On a serious note, I agree with Mike. The trauma never leaves you. It’s there with you. It’s your companion. Kind thoughts with you all!
Maybe you can update us again in a few months with Michael's current status.
Yes!!! The boys are back! 😊❤ Thank you for continuing to give us great and insightful content!

I vote for the Ballgown-and the Macarena. 😁 Love the socks Mike, and congrats on your promotion. Jeff, I thought your analysis in this one was well constructed and delivered, in spite of the fact that you’re not really into horses. It goes without saying that Dr Grandes’ comments were on point and insightful. On a personal note, I’d like to request more alien lizard humanoids. 👍
Love this show but with Mike getting that new job and our Dr. Grande doing shorts now too...we need to be patient, I think...there are only so many hours in a day...I wish you all a great 2023...Serial killers in Delaware would be an interesting episode... Pam, Belgium, 🙋
Glad to see you back at it. Great Alien Lizard Humanoid story.😅

Nice to see you back. Congratulations on the new vocation, Mike!
you guyssss, I've missed the podcast! So happy to see you!!
I was listening to this in the shower and could picture Dr. Grande barely being able to contain himself to get some Jersey jokes in, lol. (I'm self-aware I'm fat and anxious, Dr. Grande's self-aware he's funny as shit!)

Plz post Bella Grande Media again! I miss this greatly
my mom does dressage she had issues with her back and knees so its less straining than jumping and its way less dangrous
Very glad to see you guys back. Enjoyed listening as always and I’m looking forward to your next content. As a suggestion, I would love to listen to your analysis of Dr. Christopher Duntsch’s case and what factors may have contributed to his complete mental breakdown. Thanks again
It's been months where y'all at??
Love all of you guys! ❤️ We know you are all busy, but it's always fantastic when you find the time to do this!
I had horse riding lessons in school but that was in rural England.
OK, I have to comment again...I live in Delaware, loved the rant about driving in Amish country lol
There's lots of farmland in South Jersey too, but people forget that there is this tiny little part of the Delaware water gap up north. Looks like a wrinkle on the map, but it's pretty. LBI is pretty too. There are lots of positives that no one sees, but this is also coming from someone who moved to Idaho. 🤣 Thanks for the upload guys! Always makes my day. ❤️
For the dancing horse, I vote for the ball gown attire. As for colors, my suggestion is to have a white horse wearing an attire colored with either one of these colors - pink, blue, or purple.💖💙💜

Finally a new episode 👏👏👏
I always chuckle when you all discuss New Jersey. I also greatly enjoyed the coverage of dressage. Thank you for this light-hearted discussion of a serious case. I agree with Dr. Grande. This is a case where reasonable doubt existed regarding Barisone's shooting. Sadly the jury had to go with insanity because someone was shot. I have a question--has Mike made wedding plans? His fiancee sounds like a lovely "animal person." PS It's NJ--the horse needs a ballgown!
Please please PLEASE can y'all watch some dressage!?! Charlotte Dujardin is highly respected. The precision cannot be stressed enough, and I think you'll respect it as an accomplishment, if not a 'sport'.

So, during the last summer Olympics my very large screen TV was co-opted by my lovely fiance for the sole purpose of watching the dressage competitions. I have watched it and I do have some inkling of the training and precision that goes into it. I, personally, do consider it a sport. But, as with all sports save Quidditch, I quickly lose interest. 😁

Dr. Grande, how can I get in touch with Michael Smith? My teenage son is a DnD enthusiast and I hear he runs therapeutic games. Would like to know how to get him involved. His biggest beef with his current therapist is that she does not understand his "online life" at all. We are Americans (me 1/2, my son 1/4) and native English speakers living in italy. Ciao! L

Cheers!
Ballgown please
lovely just in time for dinner:)
It's an inline 6
an outfit for a "dancing horse"? 🤔 someone in the comments mentioned the Lipizzaner horses from Wien, which are basically the apex of dressage, so I guess some kind of traditional gown that reminds of waltz and the Hapsburg court would be nice 😜
can you analyze teal swan analyzing the dalai lama
I vote ball gown 💃🐴
Mr Ed in a tutu.
So like…where’d you all go? I feel very alone here. 🦗🦗
