Ciao, complimenti per il tuo italiano! Spesso trasformiamo verbi che non sono riflessivi in verbi riflessivi, per esempio: “ mi bevo un caffè “. In questo modo enfatizziamo il piacere dell’azione, è più personale. “Domani mi compro una borsa nuova”, qui sottolineo il fatto che comprerò la borsa per me, che è un qualcosa che mi rende felice. “Mi pago l’università da solo” qui sottolineo che lo faccio io, per il mio beneficio.

I wish I could get to grips with Italian reflexive verbs with a Pronoun but I struggle with it and find it too complicated and it is like guesswork where you don't recognise the meaning and need to use intuition to interpret it which I cannot do. Antonio.

I do not understand how verbs change to another meaning with conjugation in Italian language and it confuses me because I don't get it because I speak straight to the point in English. I find Italian extremely difficult and to me it doesn't make sense which stops me from having confidence speaking Italian. Antonio Futura Tiani3574.

Ciao Antonio! I think that maybe trying to avoid to compare our target language (in your case Italian) to our own language could help us to overcome the differences. I suggest to start with short sentences, without rushing into things. Don’t fight it, embrace it! 🌺

To conjugate means to take the infinitive form of the verb (mangiare) and to change it according to the person (io, tu, lui etc). This also happens in English in the he/she form: I speak vs he speaks. I explain this concept in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z3aDrtyhfLLaZJc.html

No, I am finding it too difficult with the grammar. I don't understand or get reflexive verbs with pronoun. I actually don't grasp what reflexive means either. Is reflexive verb learning at beginners level in Italian Language???...Antonio ( Manchester, Little Italy, UK ).

Yes, I am afraid it is. You could try memorising simple basic sentences. For instance, you could try and remember that I get up is mi alzo. That could be a start, so it would be easier to remember, let’s say, mi lavo.

@@MyItalianCircle Okay, thanks, I just find it extremely frustating that I struggle to comprehend the reflexive verb even though it is at beginners level. But I will try to accept the structure and meaning and conjugation, as you say. Funny and strange, as I do have Italian/Sicilian/Greek genes in my DNA Ancestry but have never been able to intrepret the language correctly. So, thanks for replies and advice and I will continue trying to learn them. Antonio.

No, sorry, I still do not understand the Pronoun Si like you said at the start of the Video that even Advanced Learners struggle with it. Also I didn't understand the meaning in English of - Divertirsi or Mi diverto also because there was no explanation. Then, I tried to complete the exercises to fill in the Pronoun & Verb in the Sentence, but I failed & cannot grasp it still. It is a very difficult part of Italian Grammar I think. Antonio.

Ciao Antonio, the whole video is an explanation of reflexive verbs. A reflexive verb is a verb conjugated with reflexive pronouns. Reflexive pronouns in English are words like myself, yourself etc, in Italian they correspond to mi, ti, si, ci etc. I explain this right at the beginning, including the meaning of divertirsi, which means to have fun, to enjoy oneself.

I guess reflexive verbs can be difficult because you can’t translate directly from English most of the times… it requires a change of perspective!
