Decided to make a second one of these, seeing as the first was popular. This one contains stuff that was cut from the first to keep it a reasonable length, a few extended versions of things that were in the original, but mostly it contains new stuff that I’ve discovered in the years since the original video. Unlike the first video, there’s been no-holds-barred on content this time around, which is why it’s rather long. There’s also some occasional messing about in it, mostly showing some of the game’s lesser-known features.
Many mentioned in the comments of the first video that the post nightmare / Guy Savage radio calls were missing, notably Sigint’s “turd” call :P. They were originally intended for another video showcasing the nightmare sequence, but it was never completed and uploaded. The sequence is in this video - see 1:11:31-1:21:45; the post-nightmare radio calls start at 1:16:27. I’d also like to thank KZread user Craig Phoenix for pointing out another good one I missed, Eva’s Croc Cap call. The Croc Cap sequence is at 0:31:27-0:34:36, with Eva’s call at 0:33:49.
On another topic entirely… This is the first video I’ve created using Lightworks, instead of the usual WMM, which doesn’t seem to play nice with large quantities of MP4s. It’s certainly a hell of a lot easier to put stuff together quickly and accurately using Lightworks. It does have a couple of shortcomings, though. Most notably, its export options are very limited, even in the paid version, which is annoying when dealing with video from older consoles with wacky video output characteristics. It’s not possible to configure bitrates either, which has meant this video has come out unnecessarily large in size. The other limitation is a lack of built-in transitions compared to WMM. It’s possible to re-create most of them, but they have to be done manually via multiple effects for each desired transition, which is quite an overhead.
I’ve also just realized it doesn’t handle SD 4:3 anamorphism correctly. Cue a second upload attempt…
Still, it’s a really nice editor… so a little undecided on it at the moment

God I hate that camera. I’m so glad they let us choose third person. Top down for me made MGS2 a hellish nightmare even back in 2009
I thought I did a playthrough in my youth getting all the codec calls but this proves me wrong. What an incredible game to have this many small interactions

Saying that Zero met this guy means the soldier was present during the events of Solid Snake infiltrating Outer Heaven, or this is just a huge coincidence and the soldier just played Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, which are sub-games included in both HD Collections!
I hope if they do make a remake of this amazing game that they will have all of the same voice actors come back for it

Yeah, have to be clever to get that call. Enemies will often drop Book items as their fourth "item". Each enemy typically has four items that they can drop; the only way to get the third and fourth items is to hold them up. So, hold up a few enemies until one of them drops a Book. Might need to get an Alert to get reinforcements to come in, and hold those up too. Be sure to get one before progressing too far, otherwise The Boss won't be callable.

Boss deliberately switched sides to the Soviets to ensure the U.S. wasn't affected by the incident. She knew Naked Snake was supposed to kill her. Neither of them had a choice. If Snake didn't kill Boss, he'd fail the mission. If Boss tried to reform and join Snake anyway, she'd be labelled a traitor to the U.S. and be imprisoned basically forever.

What's funny to me is I never realized Snake didn't know EVA and Tatyana are the same person. Even though he knew Tatyana is a spy and EVA is also spying out the GRU he somehow didn't connect the dots.
