I have the competitor, byd dolphin, loving it, from Ecuador, Latin América. Just two weeks, and one full charge.
Love these hill-climbs for stress testing and scenery, I will always watch these. Thanks for the great content and continued commitment.
So pleased to see MG 4 content on the channel. This is one of the only electric cars in the UK that does over 220 miles of range for £25,000 and because it isn't overpowered, it is actually insurable if you're under 21. Unlike a model 3 or ID 3, Born etc. Not to mention it comes with pretty much everything you'd want standard. Adaptive cruise, lane assist etc. I expect it to sell really well here in Europe, especially to the younger audience (under 25) here in the UK where insurance is super expensive and or not available on some cars due to age/experience.

Can't wait to see what the future holds for MG. This first version of the MG 4 is already pretty good, but there are a few small things that could be improved such as the responsiveness of the touchscreen, as well as some customisation. That said, the MG could be the best first (new) car/ev for many people, especially those who are young and inexperienced and cannot justify or aren't able to buy a Tesla. Would really love to see more EVs like the MG4, specifically cheap to insure ones that are 140bhp or LESS and around £25k.

@@jellyd4889 stop bringing politics into it. The car is amazing. Affordable, great charging speed, range, and doesn’t have any options that drive up the price. Everything comes standard depending on the spec which makes it easy to manufacture and purchase as there’s less models to build and thus lower waiting times. and that’s what matters as it is a car. Most of your phone and laptop is built in China. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Chinese products.
Bjorn, you can check outside temp in the air-con menu. The figure of consumption seems to be frozen when it goes higher than 29.8kwh, however there’re two ways to get around this, one is switching to “since last charge” page, consumption is still keeping updated there. Another is to do a reset on the “from start” screen.
Hi Bjørn, I have had the 64 kWh version here in Sweden since december. I feel a difference in power between normal and sport mode and according to the manual it's recommended for "special conditions" for example mountain roads. Unclear if it would help with the powerlimit thought. Thanks for pointing out all the annoying things with the software like like having to disable lane assist everytime. Hopefully someone at MG is watching and taking note, cheers!

Isn't that a law (euro ncap) to have lane assist on all the time ? As with the warning noise under 30 km/h...? etc etc ..

currently waiting for the delivery of my MG4 Standard Edition :) really can't wait ... I wonder if the battery temp plays a role in the power limit .. I mean it was doing so well in the early part of the climb ..
Thank Bjorn for the MG4 content. Looking forward to getting my car in march🙏👊
I have read that the battery overheats under heavy load because the cooling system is under sized. So when the battery overheats, the car reduces the power output from the battery. 250 Nm should be more than enough torque to zip up the mountain. MG designed a thin battery pack to have a relatively low sitting positon qnd better handling, but in doing so apparently compromised on the cooling of the battery.
If the regeneration is too much it may lock up the back wheels
it is very common in fossil cars that the fuel consumption display is limited to 30L/100km or 30 km/l. they probably use the same software for their EVs...
what about starting a video (stress test), with a quick overview with a map, similar to the one from road trips? You can make it once, and just paste it every time, just to quickly remind a elevation change, and a distance.
Love how you make the less interesting sections fun with your zany chitchat 😊 It makes sense that your power and hence torque would be limited on standard mode. I think you should do the up hill section in sport mode. Down on eco for max regen! How about three silly-looking overweight manakins to help with the stress test and regen??
A year ago, GF and I went up that mountain ⛰️ leading to Doi Ang Khang in a rented Toyota Yaris 1.2 with no luggage. That was a scary experience. About 3 times at the steepest, we just made it rolling less than walking speed in the 1st gear. However! Ang Khang town used to be a place where Thai weekend seekers and naturelovers would spend some nights. Now the military knocked down all accommodations apparently because they in the first place was built illegally.

i noticed that many car models that are available in Thailand are dangerously underpowered. We also got stuck on a mountain some years ago with a rental car. Had to unload all people and crawl 1st gear....
beatiful road
Torque*Speed*x=Power. The factor x is fixed and defined by gears and wheel size. A car can't have power without the torque. The point of torque vs power on fossil cars is that you have to be in a specific rpm range to get the maximum torque (and power). EVs can pull from 0 rpm like a tractor. So the MG reduced its power and torque by the same factor.

The regen is also affected of derating, since both the power electronics and the active parts of the machine have to cope with the regenerative torque production. So if you have warmed it up to severe derating prior to requesting regenerative torque it will be limited, as well. Can also be a limitation from battery after long abuse with high currents over time.
Would like to see how the NETA V will perform in the Ang Khang test.
The dog can’t hear the EV car. lol
Time to go on BeamNG & stress-test the Vivace E up & down Stairway Mountain
Could you have over heated the battery causing the power limit ? It's still not a bad performance from a car as cheap as the MG4 and most people won't go mountain climbing
The torque at the wheel pushes you uphill, *biut* the torque at the motor is geared and allows no conclusion of how good a car is uphill. The power is determined by mulitplying torque by rpm and that is what matters most in the end.
@georgepelton5645

Exactly. So many people get confused about this.
who let the dogs out 😂
One thing that most cars on the mountain test have in common is that they recuperate around 33% of what was spent uphill when going back down.
Such an impressive car, the 51kwh is being sold for 23k EUR in Italy with the government subsidies. My only reservation is that in Bulgaria we don't yet have an MG importer and if it goes wrong it's a risk, otherwise it's easy to buy one in Italy or Germany even with subsidies
16:29 maybe the consumption display limit comes from some common electronic component for the display computer they all use, and thats rated "wattmeter" works between 0 and whatever equals to that 298wh/km..
Definitely a cap on consumption. Look at how long it took before it went down on the downhill, and when it finaly moved it went really fast.
Bjorn try it in sport mode, maybe there it develops all its power.
u should just wait on a side... and try is it tork or battery limit... and this is nice we just saw the batterry went 54 to 58 just diving down... ^^
He is certainly funny. I like his muttering and talking to himself. Where does he test cars? Thailand?

@tadijakatinic9965

@@bjornnyland Normal mode has to limit something. Does it limit the torque then? And then you get power limit as consequence when climbing the hill. For example some videos from Australia with BYD ATTO3 driven in ECO mode to prevent tire spin because of bad tires.
My guess power is being limited to prevent overheating. If you were going faster, e.g. on open road, there would be more cooling effect, so would use full power. The 51kWh version is quicker because has a 30kg lighter battery and doesn't have the drag of the ridiculous spoiler.
The 29.8 kWh/100km was pretty much stuck there almost from the beginning. It must have been something around 65 kWh/100 km consumption based on the calculation [0,16x49.5kWh/12km*100%]
Would be interesting to see the uphill performance with the extra 200kg as you mentioned yourself. A bit disappointing with the uphill performance, if it’s the 250Nm that’s the issue then the trophy/luxury would be just as bad.
@clasoskarsson2405
Жыл бұрын
Can't be the torque ! 250 Nm is really a lot, and even KIA/Hyundai let their new cars get 250 Nm instead of earlier 390 Nm. I think maybe the battery got to warm, or simply because not in Sport mode as the manual book says to have in hard driving conditions.
difference will be just maximum speed between 200hp and 170hp if torque is the same, so it will rev higher with higher peak power giving you higher max speed.
Looks like that the continuous power rating of this driveline is very low. You have got into a pretty severe derating, either the inverter and / or the machine is overheated. My tip is that the stator has reached high temperatures (close to design limit for the insulation on the windings). Or even the power electronics have got up to the respective derating temperature of the coolant fluid.
You are fantastic Who have srtangh too drive so mutch, electric cars, that we can look at, you have a great evning...mvh Magnus Lemhage Skövde Sweden 🙂👍
How about the Leaf? Will you do a steep test on the Leaf?
So this is the small battery version not available in norway right? Been looking at the luxury 64kw version and it is priced insanely well here in Norway. Not really any competitors for the price since we also get heatpump and all the goodies.
Could sport mode give you more power to get up hill, worth testing?
After a update, it goes over 300wh in the Marvel R

Dong.Ang Khang is 1928 meter above sea level. How often do you drive up there. Most gas cars would have trouble getting up there. EV is more suitable for urban driving. Do there have charging station up the top or even half way.

Maybe the LFP version got lower power due lower voltage of HV battery
I don’t know what’s always the chatter about torque. power is torque and rpm. So only power and gearing is the main factor of acceleration.

Your energy consumption was quite high. Do you have checked that you have turned off battery pre-heating? When buying my MG4, it was activated by default and did cost me a lot of energy. Yes, the MG4 does not show higher average values than 29.8 kWh/100 km which is quite infantile. I miss a setting where I can see the current energy consumption.

Is the dashboard lying with always displaying 29.8 kWh/100km constantly and it is more than 30? MG5 does display "---" instead of the real values for consumption over 30 kWh/100km. Maybe they don't want to see high consumption on social media or display it to the user.

em....why were you "held" at 70KM/h not going a single km/h faster if you were full throttle on a level part of the road. Something isn't right. At 11:29 in the video. Even with 20% power you would still increase speed
Am I the only one that finds the small window in the middle of the road view distracting? Personally, I prefer it off to one side.

Normally you have a very high consumption at the begining, but you know that number is going down soon. So the developer limits that number to reduce your anxiety, they are not prepared for your stress test. In their mind you should drive this family car gentlely and try to reduce the consumption. That is how my chinese mind trying to think of those developers.
This is much much better than watching silly Korean drama 😂

The climbing ability of all electric vehicles is worse than that of fuel vehicles, because electric vehicles do not have a gearbox, and the battery current is too large when climbing, causing the battery to heat up, so the power output must be reduced.
