MFC Offroad Pinch Weld Mod In Depth Procedure - Fit Larger Tires On Your Cherokee

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here we document and show you everything needed to fit larger tires on your Cherokee. Trim back that metal and heat up the liner to get a maximum tire diameter of 32.1" on your Jeep. That's the way it should have looked right from the dealer! The procedure shown in this video was performed on the body style of a 2014-2018 Cherokee. If you have a 2019 and newer Cherokee, some additional trimming will be done to the front side of the front tire area of the lower liner trim, but not much. Here is a quick breakdown of tire sizing and fitment.
Fit up to a 30.5" tire with ZERO cutting or trimming. (245/70R17) no lift.
Fit up to a 32.1" tire with trimming and cutting as shown in the video. (255/75R17 or 265/70R17) with lift.
Can be done on all model year KL Cherokee's.

    Instead of the self tapping sheet metal screws what I did for the liner was I cut the liner in the L shape so the extra material would be removed and it laid flat. Than I took some TUFF TAPE and put it over the wheel well and it gave me a more flush look. On the 2019 my issue more was the front of the front tier liner rubbing when I turned all the way than anything. With that I just trimed the bottom 1" off of it.

    Awesome instructional. Unfortunately, I live in the DC area and don't have a garage so I can't do too much myself. Just bought a Trailhawk and you guys aren't too far from me. I might just come up to you to throw the lift and tires on and do this mod after the new year. Your channel and products were one of the deciding factors in me buying a Cherokee in the first place. What are the largest tires with your 3" lift and this mod that you've been able to fit without major rubbing?

  • @jesselambros8520

    @jesselambros8520

    Yes and no. Some of the tire manufacturers that offer that size have the tires run slightly bigger, thus you wind up rubbing. The 245/70R17 is proven to never rub.

    Instead of using a hammer, use a rag or wear gloves to push and hold liner back once it’s heated up. I suggest using zip ties to pull the liner back instead of tapping into the sheet metal.

    When adding the 32" tire are there any issues with speedometer calibration? Basically what I'm getting at is would the jeep need to be regeared after a 3" lift and using this method to add the 32 inch tires?

  • @jesselambros8520

    @jesselambros8520

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for posting a question Bret. The Cherokee cannot be re-geared for larger tires above 29.5” or have the speedometer recalibrated. It’s best to use the 10% calculation. If your speedometer says 60, you’re really doing 66.

    @@ChuckUnderFire I work with metal fabrication most my life, the cutting and hammering is only going to cause cracks in the welds so it's no better than to grind it down and clean it up. As stated it's extra metal/welds and not very key points so it's not going to do any harm. The main thing is once done get a good strong layer of coating over them so they don't have any chance of issues. I actually just went a head and sprayed that whole area under the liner with the bed liner.

    This is the wrong way to do this. You should not grind off pinch welded flanges. You are weakening the chassis by doing that. All you do is fold them over flat with a hammer, there's no grinder involved
