MFB Studio Lite analog Moog-like synth Demonstration

Музыка

Steve Christie (aka Baba Ganoush) demonstrates the MFB Studio Lite (Mark I dating from 2002) which is very like a Moog synth, only in a tiny box!
Designed and Made by the late Manfred Fricke of MFB mfberlin.de/
We don't have many modern synths here, but this one is well worth a look as it can make such a wide range of sounds. Steve used it as the main compositional tool on his 2003 album
'Children's Television Themes From A Parallel Dimension' by Steve Christie's Wrong which can be found here:
stevechristieswrong.bandcamp....
Part of the original user manual of the MFB Synth Lite I can be found here:

Another interesting instrument. I get more envious with every video! Must get my synths (such as they are) set up & experiment a bit this winter. Keep up the good work.

Love MFB! The 522 is my favorite drum machine. If you ever consider selling, I’d love to buy this. The album sounds so accurate to the 60’s and 70’s! Great work!

"Do something musical with a synth ..." Good Lord that'll never catch on. These days I thought that the whole point of a synth was for making KZread videos :) Interesting demo though, thanks.

3:27 - According to rumours the sausage controlled oscillator is the next big thing, after the mushroom controlled filter and the blotter controlled envelope. Maybe more about soon on Vintage Knob Records (in a parallel dimension) ;-)! It's quite bold to give the advice to use a synthesiser to play actual notes, but this is a nice contrast regarding the big mystery how they actually made the tone wheels that small to fit in the little Lite's casing ... All the best :-)!

Ive never played Piano... but i could have so much fun with that.. would it connect to a V-Drums kit Steve??

Hmmm I am sure it would, although it can only accept one midi channel at once so would probably only be triggered from one drum… I don’t know v drums though so i could be wrong

In fact ignore that - yes I think it would work because you can assign each drum to a different midi note and play it that way! So yes

Bitchin' toy. I couldn't help thinking of Dr. Evil with your hand and that sleeve twiddling the knobs. Would you possibly consider collaborating on songs? The stuff that flows out of your head is brilliant.

does the sound of the synth comes from the speaker then captured by the same mic that records your voice ? I'm an MFB fanboy, they actually repaired one of my drum machine units, several month before Manfred passed away

Hi - all our videos are recorded with mic(s) on whichever speaker(s) we use, and a separate mic to pick up the voice. In extended musical passages, the voice track is faded out so it is just the instrument through the amp

@@VintageKeysStudio thanks for the detailed answer :) that would be awesome to hear the signal of the synth directly plugged into the audio interface ! Cheers and love from France :)

It can be triggered by pressing a couple of buttons together, but nothing musical as such
