what this is missing is the realistic appeal, yes, I know that initial d wasn’t fully realistic, but at least it was a bunch of high schoolers and college students taking part in an underground racing scene. Feels more relatable than this sort of organized racing with super cars.

A bit late on posting this dont ya think? Nah nah but I'm excited for this anime; it's just unfortunate that the youngens are gonna be like "remember MF ghost?" meanwhile we all like "remember initial D?"

1:22 I found interesting they hug the turn instead of drifting compare to the beginning where the car was drifting is this going to be more about regular racing than drifting on a side note while drifting is cool is the slowest way to go around corners hugging it is faster in real life

I mean no offence but, they are going a bit uphill, it's hard to drift uphill, also the car's have better technology, ABS, traction control etc. In Initial D the cars were powerful but they were going downhill so they had to drift to correct the angle because the inertia and the gravity were doing the pushing. Takumi was a good racer not a drifter, because he always chose when to drift or not, also drifting is a used technique not for shows but for rally's and downhill because braking hard is losing a lot of speed and momentum. ( I mean no disrespect)

Apart from car's technology tires have also become alot better. Back then in the time initial d was set in drifting was in certain cases the quickest way around but you are right, these days that is very rarely the case when driving on paved roads.

The grip/weigh rule favors lighter cars, one of the drivers complains about it in the trailer. Another driver switches from a 911 to a Cayman once he figures it out.

Would you expect an AE86 to compete with a built R32 or FD? This has always been the deal with Initial-D. Also, you might be impressed by where the real life Civic Type R sits on the Nurburgring lap table. There are some pretty meaty Ferraris sitting below it. More to the point, the fastest modified GT-R ever on the Gunsai touge is slower than the fastest Civic, GT86, AE86 (!!), and even an MR-S with stock brakes, full interior, and a basic N/A 2ZZ. Hopefully in this series we'll see an emphasis on tight, touge-style courses where these little cars seriously harvest. Because of course, if there's a mile-long straight, a GT-86 really would just get crushed into oblivion by a Huracan.

No one said the cars are stock, there is madmen who put 1000hp engines on civics out there. Plus there could be different classes depending on the grip-weight rule. In races you see supercar vs supercar and sports car vs sports car and no civic against huracan

Not just JDMs this time!!! Yes!! Always wanted to see Caymans. Which is basically the ultimate 86 if you think about it (without going into race car or supercar territory, still a sports car like the 86)

i dont know about others but man it makes me laugh knowing the power difference of the cars and how its almost impossible to beat them with a gt86 stock XD
