MF ghost put a reasonable limit on the protag and gives him reasonable excuses as to why he does well from time to time. It's not an amazing story but it's far from awful.

Kanata never wins a race, nor does he race effortlessly, he does well because the other drivers are terrible at driving (the Lamborghini and BMW) or are too scared to push their cars further cus they have awkward tuning setups (the Audi, Honda, Alfa Romeo, etc.) The Porsche Cayman, Toyota Supra, Ferrari 458 and Alpine are the only actual racers with skill on par with Kanata's and show it frequently. And the GT86 isn't gonna remain stock for long, by the third race it's HP bumps up to 300 thanks to a turbo charger and Carbon fiber parts, putting on par with most of the mid-fielder racers.

Biggest shock for me that didnt see the last ep of initial d final stage is now watching this and Ryouske being a freakin DOCTOR

Interesting fact, the hospital shown is actually the Gunma University Hospital in Maebashi, Gunma. It's within the valley next to Mt Haruna (Akina) and Mt Akagi. Maebashi is the nearest metro center to where Initial D takes place around. I believe this anime takes place around the Kanagawa prefecture.

It is. In fact, it mostly takes place in Kamakura city (there is where Kanata and the Saionji family lives). (But Odawara Pikes Peak takes place in Hakone, Kanagawa/Shiuoka prefectures.)

I personally think this one's more of a lose sequel than a successor since they're connected.

It’s not a reused clip. It’s a new sequence that was animated for MF Ghost. Only the engine sound was reused from Initial D.

holy shit, i havent felt this intense in a race or time attack in years since Initial D and eurobeat still as good as ever, nothing has been able to top that except for Initial D itself, now with its sequel, lets just hope there are more racing scenes than talking scenes this time, 4th stage onwards had been more talk than racing.

It's good to see the Inital D manga/anime continues through this. I didn't realize there was a sequel with a different title. It's funny how they showed the engine at the end to remind us that the GT-86 Toyota is really just a Suzuki BRZ under the hood. It's so weird its 99% the same car with 3 different badges.

I like the idea of this predecessor to Initial D, and I quite like the drawing style for the cars. At first it kinda bothered me cuz the cars looked extremely scratched up, but it looks like the cars came straight out of a comic and I actually quite dig it now 😅. What I find so unfitting and bothersome about MF Ghost are the ‘Angels’. They just don’t need to be here in an anime like this bruh 😑.

I remember the first real race of initial D first stage was super dragged out too. It was at least 3 or 4 episodes before Takumi really start racing/being serious.
