I love how kanata livington says "IT'S RIVIN' TIME!" and proceed to RIVE'd all over the place

I don't get what's your point on "livington" and "rivington" ... this is a different one. If they changed the name, then that's it no more questions. And for your information, Kanata's seiyuu is good in English. And Japanese language in general, they follow the slightly british accent that's why you can't hear it as an American English. There are lots of times where Japanese voice actors that are good in English need to pronounce it in Japanglish because their audience is Japanese. Their target market is Japan, not foreign people. If foreign people likes it, then good.

Well, screw it. Here's my review of MF Ghost and my positives and negatives regarding the first episode. Positives - Finally, a racing anime after every Isekai and Idol anime for nearly an entire decade. Hi-drivers for this year too. - The supercars are well animated, love that the noises are true to the cars. Hakone and that pikes peak course are solid tracks. - I'm glad they made Kanata still foreign to the country of Japan despite being half-blood. It adds detail to his British side even more. - The 86 and R35 Nismo in relation to my second point are well animated and I'm saying this as a car guy, they did not disappoint. - Aiba and Kaito are wholesome, yet socially awkward characters that give a good first impression instead of rude, brash and untrustworthy first impressions. Negatives - Ugh, Ren. I'm sorry, but she's kinda a forced love interest, and I hate to break the immersion, but it's goofy and weird that a high-school student would have a job as an angel and not be subject to her classmates teasing/bullying her. (Even worse, a Perfect Blue-esque situation) - You're absolutely right, they could have introduced the 86 way later, like introduce it in the 2nd or 3rd episode. Even Initial D First stage had a better buildup to Takumi's character arc than Kanata. - The explanation of Kanata's parents are vague. Yes, I'm all for mystery, but why should I care for his parents with that little of info? - Don't even get me started on the plot-armor. I get that Kanata is a well-trained race car driver prior, but memorizing a large track 3 times without staying in the environment for years makes zero sense. Even Takumi's upbringing to becoming a racer, builds up naturally since he was driving at the age of 13 and didn't need to prove himself until the race with Keisuke. Overall: I'm glad they did not disappoint with the visuals and sound design, it's wonderful. I applaud the animators for doing a great job creating the cars and the environment. The story... I'm way too old to wear my rose-tinted glasses for this hot take. It sucks... in the case of Ren and her annoying friends/classmates. Kanata's purpose could be explained better through flashbacks, everything is revealed too quickly as you mentioned. Rating: 6.6/10 (Current score post-reaction viewing)

Im kinda confused with the Ren part, isnt the reason people dont recognize her is because she wears a wig or something? Her hair looks of a different color when she is working. Also this might be my trauma talking but I very much appreciate a simple wholesome main girl over the dumpster fire that was initial d relationships 💀

​​​@@leonardo835q Well, yes. It appears that her hair, with color is different during her time as an Angel. I would agree that it's a wig. Yet, the hairstyle looks similar due to it being short (correct me if I'm wrong), to her regular hair. Tbh, it's like one of those "People not knowing the similarities between Clark Kent and Superman" moments. Well, regarding Ren being a "Wholesome love interest", she is showing good intentions by helping Kanata find his father, which is a better first episode impression than Mogi and Mika back in Initial D. Though we're in the first episode of the anime, so there's not much we know. Also, I agree that relationships in Initial D are a dumpster fire. It's like every nice guy/girl gets no form of love unless you're Takumi.

I may be wrong but regarding the part where Kanata mentions that he’s memorised the course layout, assuming that he’s running the course on sim or however else, I read that as he’s gone through it 300 times. It’s still impressive considering this is Kanata’s first time physically driving the course but not nearly as insane as memorising it in 3 goes.

I cringed so much watching this. As a massive initial D fan I will persist and hope there’s a good story but the main character sux. Especially his random English words thrown in with his perfect Japanese. Not realistic at all. And the whole racing scene. So detached from reality. Initial D was based on kind of truth. Now Japanese millennials want to drive shitty bright coloured SUVs with north face stickers on them.

Uhhh Why is there a Australian flag in your Japanglish counter? I thought Kanata was British?

RIvington exist it is a very rare name but I remember one of my cousins friends in Scotland had that name it confused me for some time.

I actually enjoyed the first episode more than the manga. I’m feeling the girl liking the main protagonist. Many anime act like romantic feelings don’t exist. Looking forward to more

Outside of the Initial D fan service, I felt it to be a lukewarm experience. I hope it can improve as more episodes come out!

Okay so two cents: - Prolly just me but it somewhat feels pretty disconnected from Initial D (apart from the Eurobeat). For better or worse. Better because that'd mean that the anime gets to be something of its own instead of having to be tied and thus judged according to the standards of its predecessor. Worse because it might feel a bit alienating for some. - Minor thing I know but I would've preferred if Kanata had a proper English accent, cause you know, half-English? Instead of going with the usual and tbh tired Engrish accent. I don't hate it but I'm like, since this guy is half-English, this is their chance to actually try something else for once and give him a proper English accent, would've been nice and charming imo. Then again, it might be a bit much of an ask. - Shun Aida, the R35 guy, is such a blatant cliche simp it's not even funny. Other than that, he's alright, chill dude - Ren is alright, but yea, very cliche "easily falls in love for hot guy" kinda girl. I guess what matters here is if they would be able to give some nuance to her character and her relationship with Kanata - I do like the whole "dying combustion engine car entity" theme that they put in the story. It speaks to car enthusiasts in a pretty relevant way. Hopefully they can expand upon that underlying theme. And I kinda like the concept of drones following the cars around, quite a futuristic vibe. A bit less grounded compared to Initial D sure but idk, it's kinda cool. So yea, that's my two cents. Gonna see what the future episodes have in store (:

There's already alot on those website for free and other social media, sure I pay to watch it then, but why not 10 months since trailer, and 10 years since the series hiatus, I don't mind spend some cash on it

I watched it. It was very cringe. I will be surprised if this goes the distance. Will be re-watching the the whole of Initial D again to make myself feel better. MF Guuuh 🤦🏻‍♂️
