Mezcal Tasting $40-$160 | Is it worth paying this much?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Oaxaca is one of the greatest places I have ever been in my life. I already loved mezcal. But after seeing, learning more about their culture, passion, and how this artisanal spirit is made... I ended up loving this Spirit even more.
Today I am joined by Wellta Boualaphanh. She is a fashion designer. Wellta makes aprons and started making masks during the beginning of the pandemic.

Liquid Session is a chill sit-down booze talk. The idea is to take different spirit categories and taste entry-level all the way to top shelf and rare bottles. We uncork, smell taste, and talk about the spirits with occasional life talk. This is meant to be a chill conversation with some educational segments.

    A bit of information that I got wrong while filming: “SP” on Mezcals does in fact mean special, “Not Classified” or sometimes is in disagreement with the CRM so is listed as such.

    Do you like Mezcal? What are your favorites? Some Mezcals that I love, not shown here, but available in the U.S are Del Maguey Iberico (Ham) and Jolgorio Pechuga (chicken breast)

    If anyone Is wondering the man in the first palenque his name is Felix Angeles Arellanes. A true master mezcalero from the town of Santa Catarina Minas. Most everyone the still uses a clay pot still. That type of mezcal simply has no equal.

    i enjoy the puebla, chichicapa, & the minero from the Del Maguey they are each their own adventure. also the artwork on the bottles are all different and the stories behind the villages really can transport you into a different mental state while sipping neat. Illegal Mezcal (is so easy to drink its like rainbows after a thunderstorm in a rainforest) or los amantes (classy yet sophisticated) & cinco sentidos (earthy, musky with funky flavors) I could go on and on but I'll just name a few. when it comes to purchasing mezcal the wide variety of flavors in the spectrum I always like to try something new. its expensive to make for the decent ones, but more recently in the past years we started seeing $40-$50 surface on the market (cheaply made but drinkable). For me $80-$130 is average. upwards of 160-200 you really start experiencing a different level of clarity in flavor. also you can look for things like how the bottle is made how its corked, what its corked with (type of cork, real or fake) I always keep an eye out for the wax seal ones because those ones usually offer more uniquely shaped characteristic & even personality when it comes to mezcal. I tend to stay away from anything aged with color just not my vibe (too sweet). I enjoy the clear ones (gimme all the smoke). so stay open minded & grab that random bottle of the shelf, you may never see that bottle again. I usually go in blind tasting hopefully learn something new that I didn't know before. salute. Arriba Abajo al Centro y pa Dentro mi amigos

    I’m with you. The mid range market for Mezcals is a great sweet spot. And the $160+ you get some real interesting stuff. I remember tasting the Del Maguey Puebla before it was released. Super good. Can’t wait to find a bottle of that. Again, I agree with you with drinking unaged mezcals. Not only because of sweetnes, for me I prefer the raw taste of mezcal. That’s what I look for in a bottle. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! Salud!

  • @Moneydontbuylife
    @Moneydontbuylife3 жыл бұрын

    Sp actually means that the type of agave used has not been classified (as established by the regulator of mezcal). So different bottles with Agave Sp on them might have been produced with completely different types of agave.

    i don't think sipping different mezcals in the same glass is a good idea. and i wouldn't wear lipstic either when i'm tasting. i actually see the lipstick glued on rim of the glass when she says the last mezcal "taste like lipstic" :) i think that's really just the lipstick :p nice video though
