    I've been playing the Meyer 6M also as long as you've used it, and it's never failed me. Listening to you on both mp's, I still prefer the Meyer

    It sure does! Thank you Grant. I think the new piece is more in-keeping with the Bastards "East Dallas" soul sound. And it will certainly help "cut" through the stage volumes of our live shows. I'm working hard to find the little pitch adjustments but it's coming along nicely I think! Cheers and thanks again. ec

    On Selmer Mark VI alto, I use a Meyer 7MM, with tip opening of .081" giving great versatility in playing lead alto big band, rock , wedding gigs, funk gigs, bebop combo , and even classical.

    No question - when I need to cut a little bit more, the Vandoren A45 does the trick. I have learned how to control it and to bring my voice to it recently. It took some time, but the Vandoren is growing on me. That being said, when I teach or play a smaller "jazz" gig, the Meyer is as familiar as an old pair of jeans and I most often come back to that one.

    You sound beautiful on your Meyer. For the Loud band, find a Berg,or more extreme, a Beechler metal (expensive ) or a Claude Lakey , which is a very reasonably priced mouthpiece. You will be heard! But you sound really good on the Meyer. I also am a fan of Ligaphone, small world!

    The Vandoren A45 is a .086" tip. That is ten thousandth bigger (.010") than the Meyer 6MM which is a .076" . A Meyer 7MM is .081"and a Meyer 8MM is .086", so this Vandoren A45 is the same as a Meyer 8MM.

    Meyer is probably .076 where the Jumbo Java is .085. (I suppose the baffle helps to make the piece feel more closed) How much "bigger" does the A45 tip opening "feel" like?

  • @eugesounds

    @eugesounds

    2 жыл бұрын

    It both looks & feels more open. It takes a bit more ooomph to get started on the Java whereas the Meyer allows meet to sneak in if I want to :)

    Grazie! I have managed to like the Vandoren more & more over time and use it more often on my shows. However, I still use the Meyer in my teaching studio and on the recordings I post here. PS I am visiting Italy in the Fall & hope to play a few horns while there! Ciao.

    According to Vandoren’s mpiece comparison chart a Vandoren 35 might be easier than your wider aperture V45. I use a vintage Selmer Super Session , equivalent to Selmer F which suits both classical and straight tone for jazz. The Meyer 6 M great for more variety of sounds .

    Thnx for the info. I've settled in to a decent sound on the Vandoren - in fact I just completed a live, 2 day recording for video & vinyl and feel pretty good about the results. Interestingly I've been pleased with the Meyer tone lately, using slightly harder reeds but still getting that sweet tone that I like. .

    ¿Supongo que te refieres a la boquilla? Las diferentes formas y tamaños crean diferentes sonidos y timbres. Pero el factor principal es, por supuesto, tu estilo personal de juego y tu ebouchure.

  • @eugesounds

    @eugesounds

    3 жыл бұрын

    ha!! so many have said that. I play the Meyer at most gigs (and when I teach). But for the high intensity of Bastards of Soul shows the Vandoren is a godsend. It "cuts" enough to get through the guitar and bass amps, drums, and organ, but I have worked on it enough to have t sound round enough for the ballads. You can get sense for some of the dynamic range in this video. Thanks for listening! kzread.info/dash/bejne/o3Vmx5iPgcfRpdY.html

    @@eugesounds I've checked the video out, and do agree for that kind of music, it is just much more practical. But of course i am sure you use both, according the sort of gig you do. I myself play on different mouthpieces with different volume ranges, but with the simular kind of sound. Many years i thought i need one piece for all, but having several is much easier and less boaring. Good luck!
