Wow!!! I didn't know the service in Nacionales de Mexico was like that!!! I'm Mexican, I live in Mexico City. The rubber tired trains that were in service in the subway back then were built in the 1960's and 1970's and most of them are still in use. I aslo know the Buenavista Station. The current one eas built in 1959, and now is the terminal of the Ferrocarril Suburbano, an electrified commuter train service. The station changed a lot when that train was built: The track layout was completely recofigured, and now there's only 4 tracks, with empty platforms for hipotetical future services. And a shopping mall was built over the tracks. Sadly, the inter-city services were abolished with the privatization of NdeM in the 1990's, although two tourist services still exist in the Copper Canyon and Jalisco.

One thing I've learned about Mexican passenger trains in the FNM era: Never expect your trip to go as planned or on time. And that's just from watching Pentrex tapes.

While in college, San Diego State, I took the Mexican train from Mexicali to Mazitlan, a 24hr ride, we had a whole train car with sleeping compartments, either 2 or 4 to a room. We drank every time the train stopped, there was a club car, but I ate from the carts that pulled up to the train. This was during Christmas break, and I was asked to lead a group at easter break, I did it twice for a total of 3 trips. The train was cancelled and doesn't run any more, but what a good time I had.

LOL Hah hah. the theme music in the beginning I thought it was a Frank Zappa song. It's also very funny that I found a lot of loco's that were from the US, and a lot of them from my own local RR the LIRR, ALCO C-420 and Fairbank Morse

You are a good storyteller, Steven! Last summer (2020) I missed the train through the Copper Canyon too, albeit for different reasons. At this time the train only went from Creel to Los Mochis, due to the Chinese flu I suppose. I took the autobús from Chihuahua to Creel, spent the night in town and went to the station the next morning where the rather opulent train was already waiting for passengers. The ticket office was closed however and the conductor refused to sell me a ticket and that was that. I sat down and watched as the train left the station. Still, it's a beautiful and charismatic country and almost everybody is friendly and helpful - especially if one bothers to learn to speak a few words in Spanish. ¡Viva México!

Well there are two trains, the more opulent train is called Chepe Express and only runs between Creel and los Mochis, while there is a local train that runs twice weekly which makes the complete run from Chihuahua to los Mochis due to Covid, it is planned that both trains returns to a triweekly schedule

My sister and her family live in Mexico, a lot of the buses are as crowded, sadly there are no cross country passenger trains in Mexico.
