Mets vs Braves Highlights: Tyler Naquin slugs pair of HRs in Citi Field debut as Mets top Braves

Спорт

Making his Mets home debut, Tyler Naquin homered twice as New York held off the Braves 6-4. Pete Alonso and Daniel Vogelbach also went deep, going back-to-back in the third inning. Carlos Carrasco delivered another strong performance, despite seeing his scoreless streak come to end at 22.2 innings. Edwin Diaz posted his first six-out save of the season, getting Orlando Arcia on a check swing groundout in the ninth inning to end it.

@optimus2g Buck wanted no one else but Diaz to face Swanson, Olson, Riley in that 8th inning. So regardless of Carrasco going back to pitch the 7th inning, it wouldn't matter. Buck was not going to let Ottavino to pitch the 8th inning to face those hitters.

But Diaz is just having that magical season which Champions experience. The lefty bats acquired are making Billy look like a Genius. I had no Clue about Vogelbach or Naquin, but both are looking like integral parts to the team. Naquin is very soft spoken, low key. At least for now.

DIAZ FOR 6 OUTS. It worked for one game, but it is a BAD IDEA. There are a few reasons. FIRST: Diaz is not a freak of nature or a machine, but an athlete, and he will be SUSCEPTIBLE TO MISTAKES before the Mets run to a playoff title is complete if he is REPEATEDLY ASKED FOR MORE THAN 3 OUTS. That means 1-2 blown saves in the post-season, and those are hard to recover from. See Famiglia in 2015 who was used for multiple 4 out saves in the post season and became fallible before the Mets could post a world series game win. Within 2 years he was yesterday’s news and dispensed with. SECOND: It is not ok to let this happen to Diaz. Since their treatment of PEDRO, the Mets have a well-deserved reputation for playing fast and loose with their roster of athletes. They also have a deserved reputation as being a place where your career can implode. Diaz has passed through this crucible and is now a symbol of success under the Mets care. If they play fast and loose with his talents, the Mets will throw away this progress and discourage the majority of baseball veterans and all-stars from coming here.
