Metropolitan Stadium Last Game - Vikings & Chiefs
Спорт
December 20, 1981, the exciting final five minutes of the game and with fans rushing the field taking down the goal posts. Traditional Viking red zone failure. After the last play the announcer says the Vikings will play in the "Super Dome" the following season, but gets it right at the end. From NBC Sports.

Greatest home-field advantage stadium in NFL history. I never even gave it a thought that someday it would be gone. Why would I??? R.I.P. Bill Brown🏈 GOD BLESS OUR BOYHOOD PRO FOOTBALL HEROES FROM A BYGONE ERA.
Man I still wished the Vikings still played out doors in my opinion the outdoor games make for one hell of a game the suspense & excitement omg you just don’t get that much out of a dome game at all I only say that mainly because in a dome your not against any Elements weather wise & such

Agreed. I was never a Vikings fan, but when the weather got nasty, I would watch any game played at the Met just to see 2 teams battle it out in Mother Nature. Anybody (almost) can play in Florida, but try playing pro football in 0 degree (or less) wind chill factor weather. I sure as hell couldn't do it.

I agree with you on all of that, I never saw the Vikings as the same team again once they moved into the Metrodome, The Met was a frigid nightmare for opposing teams late in the season, I thought they were moving back outdoors once they left the Metrodome but they're still indoors, But I'll always like the Vikings because of their cold weather history, Fran Tarkenton will always be my all time favorite QB.

8:04 - "Next year the Vikings go to the SuperDome"....WOW! 🤪
The Minnesota Vikings are one team I never thought would move indoors.

Can't expect people to pay top dollar 💵 💲 to sit in the cold; college football should be played indoors latte October November NFL & college football season too long

In 1981 Met Stadium was falling apart they had to play somewhere else

@@lloydkline1518 Apparently you can, as they still shell out top dollar to sit in the extreme cold in Buffalo, Green Bay, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Kansas City, among other places. Why is Minnesota any different? Hell, the Chiefs just played one of the coldest postseason games in history against Miami and the place was packed! Pretty sure they all had to pay to get in. And every BIG10 school draws huge crowds in the cold, especially Ohio State and Michigan. That’s not changing any time soon. Lastly, why is the NFL and college seasons too long - because you say so? They are not too long. Because I say so. As does the majority of fans shelling out $$$ for these games.
Wow! Those goalposts when down quick😱
Boy,the Vikings sure took their sweet-assed time between plays .(!)
😮
Miss those jerseys of both teams
8:03 Wrong dome, buddy!

I was too, but sadly I didn't grab any souvenirs.
IDS Tower looks so lonely lol
I think the Vikings lost their home-field advantage when they moved to Metrodome and now U.S. Bank Stadium because playing indoors gives the visiting team an equal advantage to their opponents. I cannot believe that fans were allowed on the field!
Great memories won alot in that stadium I wish they still played outside Green Bay does so does Denver and New England I never understood y they had to go inside? They never won the big 1 but they did play well on there own turf
In the Bud Grant Era, the Vikings and Chiefs played some notable lasts: Super Bowl IV was the last of the old NFL vs AFL Super Bowls, the last game to feature an official AFL (KC) team, and the last game that didn't have names on jerseys (MN). 1974 regular season finally between these teams was the last Chiefs game coached by the great Hank Stram. 1981 regular season finally was last Vikings game at the old Met. Part of the AFL/NFL merger agreement from 1970 was that every franchise had to play in at least 50,000 capacity stadiims, if I remember correctly. The Vikings were one of the last, perhaps even the last franchise, to fulfill this part of the agreement. They had to do something. Minnesota went economical and built a cheap stadium (the Metrodome came in under budget) that could house the Vikings, Twins, and Gopher football and baseball. Each of those teams seemed to lose some of their identity, although the Twins did utilize the indoor home field advantage to win two World Series.
Who would of thought almost right were there playing would turn into a mall-amusement park.
The ugliest and greatest stadium ever built God. I miss those wonderful drunken 10 below games.
My Vikes ! 🌈⭐️ we should have NEVER went indoors! That was a HUGE part of the mystique ⚡️💪👀
I just noticed both teams are on same sideline........makes for interesting coin toss decisions.....
Love the Vikes been a fan since I was 5 now 56. I wished they still played outdoors because I think they got weak. A fan from California. No offense towards the Vikes.
The Vikings should have tried a "sweep" inside the 5 yard line!! They could have won that one.
Used to love the Vikings when they were playing at the Met, but after they started wearing dresses playing at super dome could no longer watch them! They should have built an outside stadium, they were very intimidating team. Nobody wanted to play there, especially in the playoffs, they were almost unbeatable!!! I live in San Diego, but I took a liking to the Minnesota Vikings, too bad Fran Tarkington couldn't win a Superbowl. Tarkington was the first running quarterback, he set the standard!!
Number 30 for the Chiefs is concussed first play of this video, but its 1981, the only thing to do is get back up. The Vikes look just as cold as their opponent and when you suck the homefield cold advantage doesn't mean much, only slightly warmer Green Bay was horrendous in this time period as well.
The announcer initially said tgat the Vikings would move to the Superdome, I think he meant Metrodome...lol
at first i thought they where going to move in New Orleans. then at the end he said Metrodome. i guess that is the Super Dome.
The Vikings will be playing along side the Saints in the Super Dome in 1982. Lol. 8:07 mark
They took down this Stadium for A Piece of Shit Indoor Complex in Downtown Minneapolis which is now Non-Existent. They should have left Metropolitan Stadium alone and have built The Mall of America in Downtown Minneapolis!

what a horrible idea
Vikings lose their last game ever played at Metropolitan Stadium, That Sucked.!!! 🥲 Bud Grant did win 11 Division Championships in 15 years, but not on this day.!!!
8:03 WHAT THE HECK
Not very many points
They're The Vikings and Bud Grant coached them to be a cold weather team and it should of stayed that way. Instead they moved to the metrodome and now that god awful looking US bank stadium. And I find it funny since they moved the team indoors they have never been back to a superbow since.
No player on either team played in Super Bowl 4.

Ah yeah. That was, what, 12 years before? The Lone Person in the Stadium who was in Super Bowl 4 was Minnesota's Coach Bud Grant.

Chiefs center Jack Rudnay was drafted by the 1969 Champs but didn't play the season after suffering an injury against the Jets in the College All-Star game
Hey that’s what the current Vikings do, 1st and goal inside the five and don’t score 😂 !! Oh and the 100th win at the Met to boot at stake. Glad they got warm in another dumb name for a stadium the following year because that made all the difference in the rest of there playing days.
If you know the place isn't ever going to be used again, at least strip it ceremoniously like the ladies at my church strip the altar at the end of the Maundy Thursday (Thursday before Easter) service every year! Of course, that ritual only takes a couple of minutes. Stripping the Met (or the Vet in Philly) ceremoniously would've taken somewhat longer just for the seats... "))
The freezer 🏈 football stadium
George Floyd rushed the field. He was right under the fallen goalposts mugging a little girl and her elderly grandma. I had to watch it 8 times to see it.
What a joke the metrodome was. Boring, boring, boring.....
great ending.go CHIEFS!!!
