Book spoiler 2: The ending in the book is actually very depressing as Artyom understands that the dark ones were humanity's hope to live in a perfect symbiosis with each other and that they could have helped them to save humanity's future. I remember being a lot disturbed when reading that haha

"H.G Wells once wrote, "If we dont end wars, the wars will end us" And somehow i stopped my war. At the time, i couldn't say what had made me spare the Dark Ones. But, i came to realize that the strange visions that haunted my journey were their attempts to reach out to us. I don't know if i was the first to communicate with them, but i will not be the last... And the future -- our future -- stretches before us like an endless metro tunnel. And maybe, we will deserve the light, at the end of that tunnel"

The good ending contradicts any idea of a sequel. I read the book and was blown away by how good it is. How Artyom awoke to the realisation and was in tears because of his regret.

One of the best games I have played but unafortunately I got bad ending :(

imho this is actually the better one. These monsters attacked an innocent metrostation and then want peace? if I had the possibility i'd have driven with these freakn tanks and blew them up like that.

Lollilus √ I played both Metro games to get these "bad" endings intentionally and I like them both waaaay more. But to your comment - the Dark Ones have nothing to do with the Nosalis, Librarians or Demons or any of these mutated creatures. They are the result of 3rd WW that ended up destroying Earth and turning animals into wild twisted creatures. The Dark Ones can be considered to be an Alien, for what we know at least. It's not like they command the mutated creatures, so the Dark Ones NEVER actually killed any human, you can also see it in the second Metro game, Last Light, where the Dark One actually saves a kid and if you get the good ending, they will prevent human race from fighting themselves. lol sry if you already knew this and I misunderstood you but this was something I couldn't help myself miss out on.

+Aubimed - I wield a golden AK, what now? They actually want piece, but humans are shooting them on sight, also they tried to communicate with humans, but those humans died expect Artyom, only Artyom could communicate with them and the attemp to communicate with the humans was seen as hostility cuz It actually killed the people and humans didnt even know they want piece or if they are intelligent so why would they not be hostile, so the dark ones needed to be hostile too for their own good. Also there are ghosts in the game and the dark ones doesnt want death, they cry for the ghosts or what the fck.

user bad ending in 2033 is canon, last light the good ending is canon

How to make a "good" ending: 1. in the stage "Spartan Base" (old church), you must listening to Khan advice until you got the point ( you know, like a sounds of water flush ) 2. in the next stage ( in a "stove" train ), artyom will pass out and he will dream about Hunter and The Dark One, choose The Dark One path! 3. And last step, play it like this video advice. and then, you will make a "good" ending. Note: how my english? sorry if i had bad english

Your english is good enough to understand. Altough, your statement about getting the good ending is very, very unclear and untrue. There are MANY more opportunities and choices that decide your ending. Long story short; *be a good guy*, don't take from others and give to the poor, don't kill humans but knock them out, explore as much as you can and receive positive moral points. In every hallucination, choose the path to the Dark Ones (as you have mentioned), there are more of those in the entire game. In the end, don't shoot the Dark One and instead, aim at the missile launcher.

Good English, but there’s more to it than that. You need those good points from that section but you also have to interact with literally everybody in the stations or hear some stories in order to get more of these Good Points.

In the book there were no visions of this like there are in the game, in the book they seem to genuinely want to help but are mowed down by machine guns whenever they try to communicate. Artyom is the only one who can listen to the dark ones.

It wasn't very clear in the game what were their intentions and overall to messy to understand.

I'm rewatching the Metro games cuze of Exodus and I really love this incredible atmosphere this series has, I've never been so immersed in a game like I was in Metro

I just want to say that this gameplay style is awesome. You were patient and living in the moment of the game ending. I really love your style.

Y'know, it occurs to me that what the Dark Ones are doing here isn't helping them much. I mean the targeter's already set up, passively-agressively urging Artyom over the edge isn't going to do a damn thing to stop the missiles.

I wish the book had this ending. I get the tragic element of killing the dark ones when they only wanted peace, but I hate that the author didn't make this ending the true one. I think this ending has a more interesting potential.

I agree with you but sadly Artyom doesn't understand , not until the end that is. He ran from what he feared and only in the end he saw the "light". " He who is brave enough to peer into the darkness his whole life, will be first to see a flicker of light in it" - Khan from the Novel.

Destroying that mount, was the last thing on my mind when I played the game. All I could think of, was to make sure that the missiles were fired.

Xavier Daniel I watched the bad ending legit just now, want to know why? Because it's on my TV screen, I just beat the game. I saw the things that indicate good deeds and because I played Last Light before this, I wanted to see if there was a good ending FML I didn't know that the knife knocks out people until I was writing another comment

Also, in the book, when Artyom gets back to VDNKh after going to Polis, Sukhoi tells Artyom that the Dark Ones are attacking VDNKh and killing their men when VDNKh only could kill one.

Artyom Born outside of city he lost his mother and Dark Ones save him as Lil Artyom

i had both endings on metro 2033 and Metro Last Light this also makes it possible for the creators to make 2035 and so on the games outcome depends on moral decisions you make down the line.

still,in Last Light it says you destroyed them... so much for choosing good ending in previous game -_-

Actually my friend you are wrong , Metro 2035 is a direct sequel to the Metro 2033 . Metro 2034 takes place after the events of 2033 book and has different characters in its story , you only learn that Arytom returned to his home station , other than that it takes places in different stations of Moskov .

They gave plenty of clues. At no point did the Dark ones actually attack you, although they showed you visions of the world when it wasn't destroyed etc. I figured it out although is very cryptic and open to debate. Fantastic story I loved both games :)

No imo. Although it was sorta clear that they didn't attack you and even teleported you through a gate once. Other than that, the only thing you know about them is that they killed Hunter and the defenders of your home station and corrupted the minds and bodies of your stations soldiers and eventually killed them.

Problem is... that isn't the only way they can communicate since in Last Light the little Dark One is SPEAKING to you WITH WORDS.

You can get it just by NOT being bad rather than going out of your way being good. You just need to hear all the optional conversations and avoid being bad.

If you leave the laser alone then the missiles will fire. Also, you can walk up to the laser designator and push it over the edge.

This ending makes me furious. So far as Artyom knew, he was the only person who hadn't gone insane from receiving the visions the Dark Ones put into his mind. Did they really want to help? I don't think so. If they truly wanted to, they wouldn't have been trying to scare the crap out of you with cryptic warnings. Now, I realize that may be the only way they can communicate, but they -did- just try to kill him, regardless of whether he was trying to nuke them. They seemed hostile from the start.

Interesting that the “good ending” isn’t canon for 2033, but it is for “last light”.

They tried to stop Artyom when they realized he was trying to blow them up. Plus they werent hostile it was the Humans that was hostile. they wanted to help but since they "seemed" hostile all because they're mutant. like what khan said "Try to get a better understanding of things before you make your judgement"

Deivdas Vaičius Not exactly... The outcome of the ending is the same, yes. However in book Artyom really regretted this act. He had a vision that the Dark Ones are not the enemy and wanted to stop the rockets, but it was too late. People claimed him a hero, but he felt like a mass murderer.

QuantumReQ - Maybe you wanted to, but you didn't. Maybe book's and game's endings are very similar, but they are not exactly the same.

it’s understandable for artyom to regret the choice but in the game they kinda do attack so for humanity’s perspective they are a threat and only artyom knew what they want so the bad ending in the game is still the choice

In Metro Last Light after the baby dark one makes u faint, it gives you its perspective of the bad ending and before the missiles fell over their nest, you actually see human books laying in piles. Nigga i felt even worse knowing they enjoyed our books.

The dark ones appear more hostile than in the book, it's a pity

part of me kinda wishes the sequel delved into this side instead but I haven't played it yet so I'll see how they deal with the last dark one

Cuz you got the bad ending, but I am sure you must've noticed a dead dark one on the top of the tower.

Well, the game doesn't give you the option unless you behave like a damn saint throughout the game.

i got this ending in my first try im serious my first gameplay and i got good ending

Because the dark ones are trying to help out. In facti f you see the good ending to Last Light then you will see what I mean. Heck one of them actually pulls you to safety in 2033 if I remember correctly. That and you saved them rather than killing them.

Oh sh*t I didn't know about the good ending in Metro 2033 (guess I need to replay for a third time). Currently working on good ending for Metro last light.

Like an endless metro tunnel... That was a bit... not... as poetic... as he wanted it to sound.

They did save him from the great door and showed him visions of pre-nuked Russia. And in all honestly, you did just set up a laser guidance system for targeting missiles, i think the time for diplomacy is over.

i didn't know that you can do something like this, but still dosn't matter in the second part of the game to bad :(

Damn shame this is non-canon, but still gotta love that cute Dark One child in Last Light. Fucking love that thing he's so adorable! Although funny thing is I saw Khan as the most stupid character in Last Light when in the first game he had to be one of the smartest.

luckily the good ending in this one is simple, shoot the thing. way easier that having to replay the entire game for good karma

Well, this ending isn't canon and it's VERY hard to get without looking things up on the internet, so it's more like a secret ending for those who have read the book. I recommend you read the book, it explains everything better and just tells the story better...'cause it's a book.

could you choose here during the missile countdown? basically, if you don't shoot the laser over the tower, you get the normal 'bad ending cutscene'? Also, is shooting the laser the only way or you could have walked there and disable it with another animation?

Yes, basically getting enough moral points will allow you to make a choice about the dark ones. The only way of saving them is to shoot down the device, otherwise you'll get the "bad" ending.

Even the novel? Because according to the novel, Artyom regrets killing the Dark Ones. They only wanted to communicate with humans, but instead of talking to them we started killing them. Even though they just wanted to help. Therefore the ''Good Ending'' is the preferable ending since it happened in the novel.

idk why but I prefer this look over redux. I just like the old feeling of games

The "good" ending isn't canon but it served as a good finale should no further metro games get made. So basically if Last Light never got made, at least we had some sort of good ending for the story.
