Meteorites! Show & Tell, Oriented, Iron Meteorites, Rare Pallasite, Thin Sections, Science Chat Fun

11-4-20 Hangout Summary: I reveal my newly classified meteorite with co-main mass holder Oz Backman, NWA 13579 “The Odd Numbered Golden Pallasite” from Niger with less than 700g of TKW. The 205g main mass of NWA 13579 will be available to purchase during my Live & Interactive sale on Saturday November 14th! Take a look at it now. Pallasite meteorite classifications and Groups are discussed.
Roberto Vargas has a 6.5kg Oscar Monnig Toluca Iron, 22.82g of Chris Colvin's Mesosiderite that is being classified, and a similar looking 13.7g Bondoc from Aerolite. I have the 43g main mass of this same stone. It is a thing of true beauty. I open the package from Chris and see it for my first time. Can you say, “Personal Collection”?
We are still not sure if we got skunked during the Franconia AZ meteorite hunt a few weeks ago. I show off the most possible meteorite that was found. It weighed 2.065g when found. It will be sent to UCLA for scanning electron microscope analysis to confirm if I have a great story or my third meteorite find ever. I want to thank Jason Utas for offering this analysis and his expertise.
Matthew Stream of Streaming Meteorite had our Arizona meteorite blood pumping by showing us an example of Canyon Diablo with perfect natural patina and amazing shape, a Franconia with the red/purple color it is known for, two rare and fresh Mohave Mountains, and a Gold Basin. His new Aguas Zarcas has blue fusion crust on the negative pressure side.
Tom Sutton and I did a barter of some meteorites. I open his package and show off three new slices that will be 10% off during my live sale: two Muonionalusta (40g & 30g) and one 36.5g Toluca. Tom included a light table (for photography and thin section microscope work) as a gift. I also open a gift from Andrii Gorin in Ukraine, some dirt/sand and impact breccia from the Ilyinets Crater that he studies in Ukraine. Thank you guys!
Juan Aviles of Jurassic Dream Fossils checks in from Morocco. He shows us thin sections and microscopic pictures of his new green fusion crusted Lunar that is full of plagioclase crystals that show evidence of an extreme shock event. We discuss isotropic crystals and how they come into existence and how to recognize them in cross polarized lighting. This will be huge news once classified. His Ureilite being classified is shown. It was hard to cut due to the high hardened Carbon and nano-diamonds. Juan shares his other passion with us, Anthropology. We get to see his new dinosaur teeth and different types of trilobites in various stages of professional restoration around his workshop. The finished ones are really a sight to see.
Marco Gaisser does his weekly check-in from Germany. We LOVE his videos!! Marco shares three oriented meteorites from his collection. A 1.8g 99% crusted Tarda C2-ungrouped, a 1.5kg hyper-oriented Chondrite with superiorly fluted regmaglypts, and a 1.7kg nosecone.
Arthur Wagner shows us his new Topherspin Meteorites purchase, a 93g thick slice Aba Panu. It is a L3.6 witnessed fall that it known for its internal beauty and total lack of fusion crust. We missed Par Brown this week. Michael Kelly stepped up and filled in for the weekly “Guess the Weight” contest with the largest specimen in his collection, he collects rare classed micros. I was the winner this week with a guess of 420g and a weight of 476g.
Ron Metchis is doing a new ‘how to’ video of Iron slice preservation via reverse electrolysis, etching, and proper coatings. He is using a slice of Aletai to experiment on. We can all learn from sharing this type of information. I will post the final video on my KZread channel. Be sure to 'like' the video and subscribe so others get offered it by KZread!

I have a pallasite meteorite. I am from Armenia, they say here that we do not have such experts on meteorics in Armenia. I ask you to help determine whether it is a meteorite or not. I can send photos. The density is higher than that of pallasite and lower for an iron meteorite, and that's not all. I have others (meteorites). Help with the definition.

I've been watching some of your videos. I believe I have something special. They are ALL special, I'm sure. I was wanting to know if I could send you some pics and some of the crust to check out. I've did all the normal preliminary checks and it seems to fit the profile. It's flight sculpted. Plz a return text if I can possibly send you some pics.

Im a huge rockhound and meteoriticist. Ive read "rocks from space" and "spacerocks". I love your youtube videos. Anyways as a minnesotan hunting for meteorites with a cheap metal detector, what advice for finding meteorites could you give me? Also i use a 60x zoom loope for studying, is that quality and proper zoom for studing and identifying meteorites? Ever use voltage meter to test meteorites or suspects? Also my meteorites im hunting for would likely be ancient falls and glacially deposited from recent ice age pushing candian rocks to minnesota. Any minnesota tektites, or impactites? Is any of ur members near me? Ive heard u talk about how important when learning and building collection of meteorites and rocks ect, thatbyou see others collections. Touch examples in person, hear their storys in person from peers other colleftors ect. But problem is i have no supportive meteoriticist peers :( also i have a rock saw and cut lots of my suspect meteorites, and have a hard time identifying the suspects thT i do cut any advice or super important feTures i should be lookimg for ? Ive got 200$ invested in samples sent to experts without any luck. Learned alot but none approved yet... also notice your views and think ur foing a great job and am certain if u keep up good work your viewz and loyalty will come. Thanks again, Jay

I personally reply to all messages and really appreciated the enthusiasm in your. It is a ton of work creating the channel and I am made happy to hear people like yourself are enjoying the ride. KZread and most people are not going to like my format of 50mins of deep science wrapped in a Hangout. Most have a 30sec attention span. I hope the channel takes off too. Lots of questions that I can't answer all at once. But, YES I have a meteorite buddy in Forrest Lake MN named Chris. He would be awesome to hook up with. Join the Topherspin Meteorites Group on Facebook and everyone will help you with all their areas of knowledge.
