Hi, welcome to the first vocal change of 2016!
I must apologise as I have left many years out 2004-2015 and for the wait it has taken for this video to be uploaded.
The reason for this is because I make these videos using the KZread editor by uploaded each individual clip. But every time uploaded clips from 2004 onwards, they kept getting copyrighted so I was not able to use them in the editor.
This was extremely frustrating as this video has actually been in the works since December.

88, 91 and 92, also 87 and 99 which aren't here. 89 is really chocked in comparison.

For me, 88-89 are the best years for Metallica. Everyone performing at their peak, especially James.
Best voices of James, 88-91, 92, 96, 99, 03 and now (2018-2019)

As the mullet took shape, the voice began to go.
Anything 80s Metallica is always the best hands down. Wish we had better quality footage of them with Cliff.
1989, 1991 and 1992 are my favorite! nice video! :D
i think sanitarium is the most intimidating song i've ever heard from the genus intro to one of hetfeild's greatest vocal preformances the song is one of the 3 best songs off master of puppets the other 2 are master of puppets (of course) and battery
it's called evolution of a song live- i have heard about 14 different live versions of Seek and Destroy- parts that James sings, parts that Jason sings, parts that they entice the crowd to sing, parts that they didn't sing and now do, parts that they sang but now don't.it's inflection on certain parts that enhance the song. TBH ---- they are ALWAYS keeping it fresh! AND..... are you telling me your voice hasn't changed from 18 years old to 55 years old? that's a lot of wear and tear on your vocal cords for 40 some odd years

How sad..in 1995 we see James look almost like 1989 but he can't sing like then at all..and the guitars were tuned lower for the first time :/

His voice did change alto in the song called Welcome Home Sanitarium by Metallica
in the 1986 part James looks like Dave Mustaine
2016 was pretty fire
as that in the year 1991 it looks very hd for that year

Was cliff singing the harmony vocals in 86? I could clearly hear him sing the high harmony (of course the guy moves the camera away right when I needed to see it) but I could see at the word "plans" he wasn't really close to the mic
Tbh, 1991 is better compared to 1989. (My opinion)

I Believe Creeping Death is the only song they played all the years since 1983 (yes they had a footage playing before Ride come out)

I believe that was the show when the classic voice as we know it died and he had to change things up following that show. And I'm pretty sure he was ill at that show, so he couldn't push as hard as he used to.

why the heck you use this version for 1993, use mexico city since you used san diego for 1992 (which was in january and james' voice got progressively worse in summer 1992)
