Metallica - The Day That Never Comes (Official Music Video)

Музыка

“The Day That Never Comes” by Metallica from the album Death Magnetic ©2008
Lyrics:
Born to push you 'round
Better just stay down
You pull away, he hits the flesh, you hit the ground
Mouth so full of lies
Tend to black your eyes
Just keep them closed, keep praying, just keep waiting
Waiting for the one
The day that never comes, ah
When you stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes, no
No, the sunshine never comes
Push you cross that line
Just stay down this time
Hide in yourself, crawl in yourself, you'll have your time
God, I'll make them pay
Take it back one day
I'll end this day, I'll splatter color on this gray
Waiting for the one
The day that never comes, ah
When you stand up and feel the warmth, huh
But the sunshine never comes
Love is a four letter word
And never spoken here
Love is a four letter word
Here in this prison
I suffer this no longer
I'll put an end to this, I swear
This, I swear, the sun will shine
This, I swear! This, I swear!
This! I! Swear!

This song really hits close to home with me, especially the video. I'm an army veteran who's been out now for about 6 years, and I still think about the two battle buddies I lost. One of them was SPC Jessica Williamson, who killed herself after she got out because of her PTSD. The other one was SPC Juan Vargas, who was killed in combat in 2010 from an IED explosion during a routine convoy in Afghanistan. I still think about those two every day, and wish they were still here. I miss you guys so much.

I’m 51 and have been a Metallica fan for roughly 38 years. It all started back in junior high school. We would cover our text books with paper bags and draw our favorite band logos on them. Mine always had the stylized “ Metallica “ and Iron Maiden logos written on them. We also wore Levi’s denim jackets with band patches sewn on them. That was the shit back in the day. I’m proud to say that I’ve seen them on every tour ever since. Their music is timeless and I like to refer to them as The Rolling Stones of my generation.

Completely agree! This song stands with ONE, FADE TO BLACK, SANITARIUM and NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. in other words it was good enough to make the list of Metallica's " ballads" for lack of a better term. I don't really like NOTHING ELSE MATTERS but I respect it because it was well written.

awesome dude it is definitely up there for me a great one for sure. this entire album is criminally underrated, if only more people could give this album a chance it could easily become a classic. all nightmare long is in my opinion the best Metallica song (only challenged by ..and justice for all) and the unforgiven three is the best unforgiven (in my opinion). and this song is awesome too, and every other song is really really good there is no skipper in here (unlike the black album and load and reload). so I think this album is a really good contender for one of the best albums they ever made (in my opinion).

I heard them play this live in Arlington, TX recently. I realized I had never seen the music video. I can't believe it's already been 13 years. This album came out just before I deployed to Afghanistan. The guy I was riding in a convoy with asked if I had any Metallica to play for the drive, which was about 12 hours. I told him yes, I have every Metallica song they ever made. We listened to Metallica the entire convoy. Side note: Dude, but your damn kevlar on!

As a veteran from the war in Iraq, this really hit home. Many people get upset over stupid crap. Traffic, coffee, flat tires. And don't take into consideration how easy life is. Being blown up by IEDs and VBIDs, I can tell you that life is not the same. Amazing song, and thank you, Metallica, for the video. I used to listen to you guys when I was deployed. I can tell you seek and destroy hits differently when you're chasing taliban and ISIS through the desert and the streets of Baghdad, Mosul, and Fallujah. Rock of The Marne!

I would agree that this one is of their best songs. I've noticed people do throw around the term "new Metallica", to anyone who uses it, I'd recommend them to give a listen to their newest album. In my opinion they've transcended that label and become something like or even better than, believe it or not, "old Metallica". Just saw them live last month, and I couldn't believe some 60 year old dudes could rock a stadium that hard.

This video is important because it shows how, despite losing his battle buddy, he still reluctantly wants to trust innocent people. In the end he looks to the sky, hoping his lost friend would approve. It's beautiful because it goes hand in hand with the music, the song talks about revenge "this i swear, the sun will shine" and ultimately still being a good person. A lot of people could use that perspective right now.

IMO the song has a double meaning. You can see it as being about the military, or a domestically abusive realtionship. I think its that way on purpose, so as to draw a comparison between serving soldiers and victims of abuse, and the subsequent trauma that is endured.

Thank god for my dad giving me good taste in music, and this being his ringtone on his phone when it first came out. When I was younger I didn’t understand this song as well as I do now and you really don’t grasp the true concept of how good this song is how good one is by Metallica thanks to all of those men and women out there fighting for us risking your lives. Metallica has never fallen off to me this song and the unforgiven 3 always on repeat off this album.

If Death Magnetic had been released anywhere from 1986-1994 in that time frame then yeah it would be regarded as a classic, but it was a follow up to a critically panned album in St Anger so a lot of detractors were out in full force at that time for the band. And in 2008 thrash metal wasn’t really a thing anymore so I believe this record was inevitably going to be put on the back burner and not get the praise it deserves.

Agreed. Now see the thing about me is I only go see a band play live if I liked their last album. Doesn't matter to me if they can bring it live, I have to like what they're doing lately. And Death Magnetic? Well that was the first tour I'd seen them on in 14 years.

Metallica doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. They have a legion of fans and followers, massive creative and commercial appeal (across several generations of music listeners), and a track record of sold-out live performances on all seven continents of the world (a proven fact listed by Guinness Book of World Records). So, for whom does the bell tolls?

That is literally what ruins everything in our world. It is fucking awesome just because it is, not because it's proven by an authority or anything. If you like it you just like it

Metallica been there in every phase of my life, my first song was the unforgiven 1, it was the only song downloaded on an mp3 which my father bought me in 2008, kept listening to it all day everyday until one day i decided that i love this stuff, looked for more metallica songs and simply fell in love with them since then....sorry for this journal, i just love this story.

This video helped me from a heavy and deep depression I have been going through since a buddy died in my arms from a stabbing. I had just got out of the military, and had nobody to talk to. It was before PTSD was a "thing", and my generation just holds it in anyway. I drank, and vented it on my loved ones. I ended up alone and broke, as is the normal story of a drunk. SO, I stopped drinking, and got my shit together. But it still nagged at me, as did my military grief and BS. I finally got to talk to the VA now, and now there is music out there that I can listen to that can get to parts of my mind that can at least sooth parts of it and can chip away at the hardened edges of the pain, that I have been carrying around. Thank You Metallica!!!

"The Day That Never Comes" - Metallica Born to push you around Better just stay down You pull away He hits the flesh You hit the ground Mouth so full of lies Tend to black your eyes Just keep them closed Keep praying Just keep waiting Waiting for the one.... The day that never comes.... When you stand up and feel the warmth.... But the sunshine never comes No, the sunshine never comes Push you cross that line Just stay down this time Hide in yourself Crawl in yourself You’ll have your time God I’ll make them pay Take it back one day I’ll end this day I’ll splatter color on this gray Waiting for the one.... The day that never comes..... When you stand up and feel the warmth....... But the sunshine never comes .............................................................. Love...is a four letter word And never spoken here Love...is a four letter word Here in this prison I suffer this no longer I’ll put an end to this, I swear This, I swear The Sun will shine This, I swear This, I swear This, I swear!
