That's why James and Lars gave him shit, cuz deep down they were still angry that Cliff wasn't with them. He was the punching bag from day 1. Cliff would've laughed at James if he said he couldn't do side projects. I firmly beleive when Cliff died, that's where James control issues started.

Frankly, they always respected him. There's a big difference between hazing (in the early days) and brotherly joking, and disrespect. Even Jason said they always treated him (and paid him) like an equal. The only time he felt disrespected, was when James didn't want him to do Echobrain. And James' wasn't in a good place at the time. He's since admitted he was wrong. So just be happy that it's awesome Jason did a video for the Metallica channel (and fans). No need to bring up nonexistent drama. Jason loved, and loves, Metallica. That as clear when he went into the HoF with them.

He’s talked plenty about the bad times. He’s asked about it all the time so I get it, but he’s not shy about how bitter he was about how it all fell apart. That said, he seems like a humble guy and has a genuine appreciation for the music and his time in the band.

He does have a good memory. However, you gotta remember he wasn’t a druggie, was in “the” band he considered his heroes/idols (at the time), while living out a dream/fantasy that not a single soul on this planet could ever possibly forget given its prominence, all the while being at the age where your brain hits its peak of memory absorption. I highly doubt many would forget something like that/this if presented with the identical scenario...

Jason being the odd man out is what made him my favourite, and I play rhythm guitar not base. Jason was a fan of the band, who got to be in the band. Thats a metal fairytale story. Somehow, as a fan, I could relate to Jason, and he made me feel closer to the band as a whole, and know it was possible, however improbable, that I could join my musical hero's and be a part of the greatest band. We are sort of a global family of "odd man outs" aren't we. Love and Respect.

As much as I love Robert, I miss Jason. He was the soul and the connection between the band and the fans.

I'm just now realizing how much of that era belonged to Jason. He was the soul of that band. He's who I think of when I think of those years.

Jason walking away from Metallica has to have been the most difficult decision he has ever made to this day. That must have taken some built up pain and hurt to make that move. Will always wish he was still with them he was my hero. He’s the reason I great out my hair and went in the bathroom and shaved my hair underneath. My mom was pissed 😂

Meeting Jason Newsted was my favorite celebrity experience. He spoke to me like I was the only kid in the world after the Charlotte show on the Reload tour. We talked for about 5 minutes about the Morley pedal he used back then, the one that made all the noise on Bellz. I was a 16 year old kid in awe of his bass idol at the time and I couldn’t believe he was looking me in the eye and treating me so nice. He was the only member of the band that came out after the show and hung out with the fans. His dedication to the fans was amazing. It’s no wonder with his personality and his energy that he remains one of the best loved members of the band.

Wow, Jason's attention to detail on when so many promotional pictures were taken really shows more than ever how much he cherished his time in the band. It's impressive that he remembers the minor stuff from 30 years ago when the band was at their commercial peak and there was so much going on at the time, yet he could still take it all in. Rock on Jason.

I could literally sit and watch Jason go through that entire photo history book and recount his memories. Top effort dude, such respect :)

I had to take a look in the description to make sure that I see and hear actually Jason.

I was so upset, for literally years, after Jason left Metallica. He was easily the member I most closely related to. I understood then, and more so now, his reasons for his departure but it didn't make it easier. It was like Mom and Dad getting a divorce. So happy to see he looks back on it all rather fondly and that his relationship with the other guys has been for the most part mended. Metallica was quite literally the soundtrack to my adolescence. Thanks for doing this video Jason. You're still the fucking man!

He was the only one that felt like he cared about the fans. By the black album it felt like Metallica was trying to complete with Guns and Roses so they all became douche bags accept Jason.

Thank you Jason. You are the heart and soul of Metallica and it just hasn't been the same since you left. We will always appreciate the energy, love and passion you brought to Metallica.

At first I thought: "Oh, Lars is going to open the box" Then I hear this man's voice saying: "How's it going?" while he looks at the camera I had an emotional moment right there, like, seeing an old friend, you know? I've been a fan for almost 10 years and seeing Jason opening this box, felt like Justice for me.

I’m pleased Jason still and will always gets so much respect from the fans. What’s even better is the band knows this only too well…

This unboxing was special in so many ways (glad they included Jason). Can't recall how many Metallica concerts I went to back in the day but I remember how Jason would make time after every show to meet fans who at the time, knowingly hung around after the gig. The guy was truly down to earth then, and is still that same guy now (older but even more wiser). I know he mentioned in various interviews that his body can no longer handle the demanding (by Metallica standards) rigors of touring... but boy would I go back into that late 80's through mid-90's mode when I flew all over the place to watch them, to see Jason do a short "reunion" with them while they all still can.

The guys in the band are quite down to earth now adays, but yeah, he's quite humble and cool.

That definitely wasn't too long, could have listened to Jason talk for hours about the old days. Saw the Orchard Park show at age 17 in 1992. Faith No More/Gunz/Metallica. Best show I've ever seen in my life. BY FAR. One of the first (of many many many) times I saw you guys live. Thanks for this!!!! Great to see Jason!

I saw that tour in Montreal, the infamous pyro accident. After several hours wait, the gunners took the stage, but then cut their set short due to Axl being a crybaby. As every good Montreal always does, riots ensued!! lol

Hearing how genuine and humble Jason is almost makes me tear up. I hope he's going to the 40th anniversary show. Would love to see him play live with the guys again!

@@BasketCase420 he can still play, just not all night long with the same intensity like he did in the 90's. He still does acoustic shows with his 'Chophouse Band'. I'm sure he could handle a song or two for one night if the band invited him.

I would gladly watch a long-ass video of Jason going through the photo album, naming every single location and just rambling on about whatever he remembers, that would be rad as hell

i had the tape doomsday for the deceiver, theres a bass solo on that w the drums accompanying. i was in middle school about to start 8th grade when this album came out. everything was changing so fast. my friend called and said the new metallica albums good, james actually sings (unforgiven). the early 90s is when metal became pop.

Jason is someone I’d love to just sit down with and listen to the stories he has to tell. I don’t know what it is but even though it’s a video he made me feel like I was sitting across from him and listening to him walk down memory lane.

I think he said back in 2015 that he couldn't spend his royalties he received on the black album in his life if he tried, this doesn't even include what he got for the Load and Reload cycles which were also successful, this man is loaded for life and he deserves it!

Jason is a Beast. Loved his energy and his backup vocals. In an odd way, him leaving may have saved Metallica in the long run. Will always be a Metallica Metal God.

I just love how humble and respectful this dude is. A lot of people would be bitter and resentful in his situation but the guy just oozes class.

It took me a second to realize it was Jason. It is so cool that he is on good terms with the band. You rarely see that when someone leaves. Plus his memory is perfect for doing a review like this.

lol me too. When I saw the thumbnail thought it was Lars. But played the video & voice was off. Then he looked up ...and asked 'how's it going', it's cool moments like these that make every day life tolerable anymore.

Jason! So glad to see you're including him in this. He's such a humble guy, and an key player in many of us fans' eyes. (Don't tell anyone, but he's my favorite Metallica bass player, he's the one I grew up with)

Yeah, he's such a likeable guy and a great player. And he's so immensely proud to be part of the world's biggest band. And I mean absolutely no disrespect to Cliff and Rob who are superb players as well.

My favorite too, I know Jason and the band have cleared the air and are on good terms; friends again, but I still feel lile there is nothing they can do to make up for the shit they put him through. Ahh well let bygones be bygones I suppose.

Normally, looking through someone's "vacation" photos and "family albums" and listen to them ramble about them is the last thing anyone wants to do. When it's Jason and that family album is of Metallic, I could do this all day. Jason deserved more love. He was the only one of the four that came back stage to the only show I ever was able to afford to attend. He had just played a 2 hour set but was still so gracious with his time and made every fan he talked to feel like they were the only person there. Thanks, Jason. I'll never forget Tropicana Stadium, St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, Dec 29, 1999.

He seems so happy to have been able to do the un boxing for the black album. You can't watch this and not say it didn't make you smile listening to him recall all these locations and photo shoots like an overly exited 16yo child lol. Good for him! Wishing you all the best Jason.

Honestly, I would watch a 4 hour long video of Jason going in depth about all the stuff here, all the stories behind the pictures and everything

I went to see that tour....it's so awesome to hear him talk about everything in that box.....It meant so much to him, as it meant so much for us to have him do this for us fans of his.....Jason will forever be a member of Metallica

@@BasketCase420 he can still play, just not in the capacity that would be required due to multiple shoulder injuries/surgeries. I'm sure that if he sits in a chair, he still plays like a madman.

Yeah he can still play but he’s admitted that he can’t play the Metallica stuff anymore. Very sad. Can’t imagine what he went through with multiple surgeries.

@@7BlueDodger yeah, he can't play it like he'd want to. As a bassist myself, they get very heavy after a lengthy gig. Shoulder surgery would totally screw that up, not being able to bare the weight anymore. I'm sure sitting he plays fine. But, he doesn't want that, and I wouldn't either.

It's clear to see Jason was a fan who got to play with his favorite band, and even after his departure by his own request, he remains a fan. The man is pure class in my book.

Jason is my Metallica bass player, I was too young when Cliff died, and Robert is amazing, but not my bass player. Lots of emotions with this short video. Thank you Jason and thank you Metallica for getting him to unbox 30 years of memories for me.

Facts man! Jason kept the fire burning after cliff died 😢❤️‍🔥💯🙏🏽! I’m just really happy that he got inducted to the rock and roll hall of fame too Would’ve had to riot if they didn’t🤬🤟🏽 ! Not gonna discredit Rob but a huge part of me wishes he never left. Band would’ve been different with the albums released when he left just like how it would’ve been different if cliff never died😢💙🙏🏽⚡️🔔 They both inspired me to pick up a bass🎸❤️‍🔥🤟🏽.

Remembering all those details shows you this guy was very present and switched on everyday. It wasn’t all a haze that was taken for granted. He showed up everyday and gave it his all. I miss his presence and energy!

Fuck yes, FUCK YES, so much respect to Metallica for allowing Jason to do this !

Even after 20 years, Jason still is the Metallica’s bassist. It’s like Rob is just a sub. Rob is great, but Jason is Metallica.

I kept passing this video up and just now clicked on it and realized it’s Jason! Happy I clicked now.. I remember Jason from his Flotsam and Jetsam days in Scottsdale! I was a 14 year old kid at the time but I used to see him around. He was just a local rocker at that point.

Most wholesome thing I'll come across today, possibly the week. Glad he got the unveiling.

Not gonna lie, I'd love to have like, an hour long video of Jason going through the contents of the box, listening to the demos and everything, and telling the stories that accompany this or that. That'd be so cool

You can tell Jason is living his best life! So humble! Nice view to have your morining coffe🙂

Very cool indeed. Always loved Jason's vibe, as well as Rob, and Cliffs. I never chose between, it's like asking me to choose between steak, lobster, and jambalaya. There is an era of Metallica basswise and vibe wise for every mood. Surgical precision killer riffs? Puppets era. Weighty crushing punch? Black. A looser, greasy, heavy sabbath blues mood? Load era onward. A combination of all the former? Present day. It took me a MINUTE to appreciate what they were going for with Load. Hindsight is 20 20, and looking back that album grew on me significantly. And James helped me alot writing my own riffs and vocals. Humming first in key over a chord progression makes it much easier in the rough mix.

Having Jason doing the unboxing speaks volumes!, well done Metallica!.

Jason is a cool guy. Very genuine, humble, and kind. It’s wonderful to see him get some just due.

Having Jason to unbox this with us, was a very special tribute to his legacy and I really appreciate that. Thanks!!!

Jason always felt like our connection to Metallica. Still does when I see him.

Yes, said the same thing myself. Jason was us and he got to be in the band. And he stayed the same as us the whole time.

Never bother to add a comment to these videos, but by fuck is it good to see Jason again. Top Top bloke and will always be a member of Metallica in my eyes.

This band pulled me through some difficult times. I'm glad to see us all persevere

I wish nothing but good things for this man, the respect and love I have for him is endless. He brought me so much joy throughout my childhood, teenage and young adult years. Love you Jason

Jason is so humble, and an incredible musician. I hope that he benefits financially from the sales of this box set.

Newsted was and still is my favorite bassist that played in Metallica. His energy on stage was tremendous, and his personality is second to none. Justice and Metallica are classics in my book. 🤘🏼

Jason is the man! It's so great to see him again. He was such a force in Metallica. Always put every ounce of his being into everything he's doing. Thank you for everything Jason! And thanks to all the other members for giving us the dose of Jason all Metallica fans needed! 😄🤘🏻

Jason is the man and I can't thank him enough for what he gave to metallica. Superb bass player, amazing energy and his backing vocals were epic.

Oh yeah, a lot of emotional when i saw Jason there, imagine for him how meanful was to be inclued, Jason always got a way to thanks the Metallica family, crew, fans for everything, Jason is an angel, Jason will always be in deep of my heart and i respect him as a person and musician, god save Jason!

Mad respect for Jason. Miss him in the band immensely. Wish I could have appreciated the band more when I first saw them for the first (and only) time on the VH Monsters of Rock tour. They were still so underground to me back then that I wasn't overly familiar with their music. Now they are one of my favorite bands.

I would love to listen to his stories from that tour for hours, hearing the places they went and the amazing moments they shared as brothers! Glad to see him unbox that, such great memories
