He alternates on the intro but then down picks on the part after the main riff...................probably just not warmed up or hates playing that part down picked.

@@kskip4242 I agree that Metallica ain't the best thing out there by any means and that criticism is always good, but calling them mediocre is pretty crazy. All their albums in the '80s are pure genius if you really get into the details and composing things like that is incredible in itself, but doing it consistently for a decade is admirable. I do not worship anybody on this green earth, including Metallica (in fact after AJFA they kind of go downhill), I'm just saying that they're not mediocre in any way.
