Same to you!
An unusual technique, but you can't argue with the results. It's a much better gold tone than regular gold spray paint would give you.

The fact that there’s no glitter-like flakes in the finish is a huge win.

I might argue with those results :/ If you have access to an air brush/spraygun, why not just use a chrome gold airbrush paint? You can usually maintain a good mirror chrome effect if you apply it right

@@griffinoconnor1523 because I thought it was interesting. Truthfully, Gordon had much better results than I did. I think had I done all of the things I mention at the end of the video I would’ve had better results. But generally speaking I think it looks pretty good for what I needed it for.

@@VanOaksProps Totally fair
The only problem with this technique is that yellow food dye is not lightfast. It will start fading especially when exposed to sunlight.

Interesting. I’m curious to see how this will play out.
Interesting technique. I've got something I need to do in a polished brass/bronze. Some experimenting with food coloring might be in order.

Possibly 2 drops of red per 4oz of high gloss acrylic varnish to warm it up a bit more.
How very interesting and cool, what a great technique to add to the toolkit! Thanks so much for sharing

Thank you for putting the five pieces around the bottom. Four isn’t enough, six is too many.

I guess you could put a glossy clear coat over the top of the gold for max shine. Nice work!

Possibly. Thanks!
A hybrid C-3P0/T-2 arm display might be cool..
Your making me want to finish my C3PO but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon LOL Its been sitting here for years now. It seems like I like to finish the small projects but not the larger ones. The hand came out great and thanks for the video!

Thats an interesting technique; I wonder how it will last over time.

I have high hopes. It's basically 3-4 coats of varnish over a 3d print that's had months to cure. Plus it'll be displayed indoors and out of direct sunlight. So I'm optimistic.

@@VanOaksProps it really is just s tint on the base coat. It'll probably be great for static props.
Wow! Who would have thought of food coloring, great job and video as always. On a different note, I made a purchase from your Etsy shop about a month ago, and still haven't received product, who should I contact about it? Thanks.

Contact me via Etsy and we’ll get this figured out.
It would of been cool it is lit up through the vent looking holes on the base.
@VanOaksProps

Agreed.
I wonder if that would work goldplating of visor.
@VanOaksProps
Ай бұрын
Not sure how the varnish would handle the flex of the visor.

I do not want to be rude so please take this seriously. What is the history of your disability??? I too am mentally and physically disabled. Would genuinely like to know your story and what drives you. Been with you a couple years now and just got the courage to ask. I do believe a stand alone video would be encouraging to makers like us. Thanks -Joshua.

Hey Joshua, I have a condition known as radial dysplasia. There's no known root cause but basically I was born without the radius bone in my arm. And additional symptom is missing digits/finger. I'm fortunate enough to have all but my thumb. You can read more about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radial_dysplasia As far as what drives me, I really enjoy making props and sharing my knowledge with people. I really enjoy seeing what people have made using the techniques from my videos - which makes me want to make more videos!
