Hi Ang! Yes every single line of this song is a reference to some legendary album cover, every one! (from which: "I raise my head and I realize that all my life was on a cover": he tells in fact the story of his life - as if it was the history of the world - through album covers) I'll give you the full list, line by line: - Innuendo - Queen --> The genesis - Fragile - Yes --> creation of the earth - Legend - Bob Marley --> the legendary beginning - Two virgins - John Lennon & Yoko Ono --> Adam and Eve (they're naked on that cover) will conceive new life - Pulsar - Joy division --> the heartbeat of the newborn - Nevermind - Nirvana --> the birth in the pool - Cheap Thrills - Janis Joplin --> his first passion: comics - Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground --> the banana of the cover, which was a work from Andy Warhol, whose quote ""In the - future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes" is also in the lyrics - Sgt. Pepper's lonely heart club band - The Beatles --> his musical influences - War - U2 --> a sad time of his life, like the eyes of the boy on that cover - Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen --> the world turns its back on him - Fear of the Dark - Iron Maiden --> the teens years ,with lots of insecurities and fears - Sticky Fingers - Rolling stones --> In his teens he was "A dick with jeans" (like the album cover) - Eminem Show - Eminem --> he'd want to be famous with a mic... - Music for the masses - Depeche Mode --> ...and play music for the masses - Strange Days - The Doors --> he's dreaming of playing concerts between rock and circus, like those circus people on the cover - Hot Rats - Frank Zappa --> he turns into "caparezza", like the curly hair that pops from a hole in the ground in this cover... - Dookie - Green Day - ...and he blows, like the explosion in this cover, becoming famous - The fat of the land - Prodigy - One step beyond - Madness - Pet Sounds - Beach Boys - Licensed to Ill - Beastie Boys - In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson - 1984 - Van Halen - Master of Puppets - Metallica - The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd You can easily find online a breakdown with pictures, here I found one where every cover he is talking about is shown: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dX1_s9KikbvZd8o.html If you got this far, thank you! ^__^

The awesome thing about this lyrics is that using references to covers of album he loves, he tells the story of his life BUT his words can have another interpretation, it's a metaphor for human life itself: from the Creation (with Innuendo by Queen), then Birth (Nevermind by Nirvana), and then he goes through all the phases of our live (growth, school, delusion, depression, realization of your true self, quoting The Beatles, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, Maiden, U2 and many many more) then we end up in a graveyard (Master of Puppets), and finally our soul ascend to the Moon (Dark side of the moon). This song is a masterpiece to me, Caparezza with one song described his life, all of his problems, the realizations he had during his life about himself and about Life itself and about Music, he tells us the music he grew up with, and he also describes the story of human kind. All the references are not there for the reference sake, they have a deep meaning for him and they perfectly fit in the song and with what he wants to tell us

If this is your favorite reaction ever, I can say this is my favourite video of yours! You got the real meaning of the word "cover" Caparezza uses in this song, and its double meaning, looking for his own music, his own style, his own soul, growing up under the influence (cover, sung and used as a blanket) of many great artists before him. To me this is one of the meanings of this masterpiece. And how is hard and full of troubles to come out of this "cover". It's a journey through music. Stay well, Ang! Your mind and soul are flying high!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

A Song you may like by him Is "eyes wide shout": it's about the artist's necessity of covering their real personality whit a mask and carry It during their whole careers. The sound is quite heavy too. Another Caparezza song whit eavy sound and deep meaning is "Zeit!" wich is about his relationship whit the flow of time

  • @inhocsigno

"All my life was on a Cover" is pretty self explanatory, all song he's expressing his life experiences through album covers, while still referencing how music (and by extension the albums) shaped his life. A third meaning is obviously how much he himself changed as an artist and one can track down his whole career by just looking at his album's covers. The whole album of his Prisoner 709 this song was the single dubut is very much Artist VS Person themed. When he says that he's going to die under a cover or he has a cover over him that's both a reference to his musical career ending/elevating as you said and a reference to a funeral veil, one man's final "cover" Good job man! You gotta react to Prisoner 709 next! You'll definitely like it!

I didn't know this song by Caparezza. Here's another confirmation that he is a genius. He made a whole song just by describing the images on the cover of the most known albums in history: - the juggler on Queen's "Innuendo" - The earth on Yes' "Fragile" - John and Yoko naked on John Lennon's "Unfinished Music No.1 - Two Virgins" - The newborn chasing a dollar in Nirvana's "Nevermind" - The comics on Janis Joplin "Cheap thrills" and so on... He made something similar in "Kevin Spacey", a song in which he just makes spoilers of a bunch of movies. 😁

Caparezza Is a Genius. It looks like in front of him, before him, there Is so many music that he Is desparate because it's so Easy to be Just a cover of some-else, even if he trying to find something absolutely original, that Is something almost impossible. But We can Say that our Life in general could be a cover of Life of other people before US ...

I did it, many times :) But i also recommendend "Gli arbitri ti picchiano" by Pino Scotto. Ok, Caparezza is just featured there, but Pino is a real heavy metal musicians, the most "sand paper" voice actually in Italy, still capable of screaming like a demon even if he is 70 yo already. Great song too, cool lyrics talking about the eternal struggle between "blue" collars and the "sweating" collars, the poor against the rich

Angelo you are great! I'll try to give you two previews of two songs you'll probably listen to to frame the meaning. Argenti Vive, in the poetic work the Divine Comedy Dante tells his journey between hell and paradise, in hell he meets his neighbor Ludovico Argenti who was among the many things known to be very strong in fights (he in fact had fists that looked like iron). Caparezza allows Argenti to answer Dante in rhyme (The world does not belong to the poets, the world belongs to us, the bullies... your tercets are wastepaper, my quatrains on your face leave a mark). In Prisoner 709 is a CD that tells a story of "abandonment". To make you understand, in the first verse, at a certain point he says "imprisoned like my father was in the arm of 1210 33 rpm in the hall psychotic scarring travels carried a furrow inside that I will never have" Here are the CDs following the LPs, the arm of 1210 is an old vinyl player (technis 1210 k2)... Van Gogh made a painting where 33 prisoners walk around in the courtyard of the prison, (the patrol of prisoners) the LPs were used by disc jockeys and do not forget that on 12/10/33 General Homer Cummings proclaimed the construction of the largest and safest federal penitentiary in America, located on the island of Alcatraz ... ok in Europe we reverse I think in USA is 10 12

This song is the representation of Caparezza as artist, from the conception to the death. And he does it trough differents cover of music albums. Innuendo, Fragile by Yes, two virgins (Lennon and yoko Ono), pulsar by Joey division, Nevermind by Nirvana, the strip of "cheap trills" (album by big brother recorded with Janis Joplin) etc... As always he's a genius with the lyrics and with the use of words. But, Ang, Caparezza's lyrics may be not understand at all. He uses pure Italian language and some words should sound weird for foreigner speakers. But thanks for this reaction, really! "All my life is in a cover" means "my life is represented by these album's cover"

We're all Capa lovers so of course we are happy that you like him too! BTW each song, each sentence, has multiple layers with diffferent meaning, some more trivial, some deeper, just to explain it with a practical example, his second-last album "Prisoner 709", among the multiple "keys" more or less hidden in each and every sentence that the listener is left to decode, and of which I am not going to write here, the title itself is not casual, it has multiple meanings, about the prisoner thing etc., but one also about 709: as zero can be read like the letter "O", in Italian meaning the English "Or" it represents the choice between the 7 or the 9, in fact Caparezza at the time had published 9 album but the first 2 were out with the name of Mikimix, so 7 or 9 album? Now this is just a trivial thing but all his lyrics are a mix of undermeanings, innuendos, rhymes used just for the rythm of the sentence (that once translated lose all their function). Even the song you just reacted to needs (like al his songs) to be analized verse per verse but there's a clever interview doing so, if you are really intersted I can translate it for you, just let me know. In the ,eantime I post here the link to his full album, don't give up at the first song because what's come after is way better, listen to it while you work or you clean or workout, personally I'm crazy about it, so enjoy!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/p3h7ktidn8qvgJM.html
