"Everyone" would illustrate best extent of her range being in a rich and powerful voice whereas "You Raise Me Up" is light and angelic and doesn't go either as high nor as low as Everyone. Lean on Me shows her arrangement with an upbeat tempo and some crazy vocals. She sings intensely emotional ballads such as Hug Me, Breathe, Do You Know, Fate etc. Arirang Alone and Bridge Over Troubled Waters are wonderful arrangements but more similar to You Raise Me Up than the other songs above. Mona Lisa is her adaptation of a classic Korean rock ballad. She has covered hundreds of magnificent songs spanning gospel, R&B, jazz, pop, soundtracks (Korean version of Moana), collaborations with opera, etc.

So Hyang has been singing a lot longer than Dimash, about 22 years. I think this was 2016 so she would have been 38 here. The reason she isn't so well known is, that apart from being a South Korean gospel singer she refuses to sign to any large label. She sings other genres as well so long as she finds meaning in the song. She is a cancer survivor who sings to bring comfort and healing to people not for fame or fortune. She has frequent bouts of pneumonia and only just got out of hospital here after one of those bouts and told not to sing. No doubt she was quite exhausted by the end. I would suggest "Arirang Alone" next. Vimeo tends to be safer than KZread clips. vimeo.com/308253527

-3:14 "That is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in music" Dude... me too! So Hyang has PLENTY of absolutely breath-taking songs. But that run she did at the end felt like God was singing through her. She was pouring out her soul there and I cried too... I really felt it. And I watch this performance so often for that reason. So Hyang like Dimash, and even more than Dimash I would argue (for many people like me) really rock your emotions to the core. She's brilliant, and so is he. She also has a ton of songs where she does very well orchestrated, tasteful remixes/song alterations, as well as really impressive watch-the-replay-over-and-over kind of runs. I hope to see you react to her a lot more in the future. She is one of the world's hidden gems. She's Korea's best, debatable as being the world's best. You will definitely hear notes sung like you have never heard before. Oh and her vocal range? Just you wait hahaha Here's a bunch of recommendations to react to: So Hyang - Masked Singer - "Home" kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHVkyLeTqtLTlJc.html So Hyang - KBS - "Bridge Over Troubled Water" kzread.info/dash/bejne/dWqdqsptqaXec9I.html So Hyang & The One - I am a Singer 2 - "For Thousand Days" kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJlosc2iZ7jJdco.html So Hyang - Masked Singer - "Do You Know" kzread.info/dash/bejne/g2WkrJlwhsiqZLg.html So Hyang - Masked Singer - "Breathe" kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4idusyPnbDgnqQ.html I recommend that if you are able to find lyrics with each, that you try to see the lyrics in English at the same time (she sings Korean too as her native language). They're usually so beautifully written. Cheers :)

Thanks for the great reaction and review. Welcome to Sohyang's world, she's kinda textbook of perfect Vocal skills, BUT, lots of singer/vocalist out there with those capabilities. What makes her different is.. The pure soul. If you just hear her singing (or luckily watching her live) performances without any contents purposes, you'd forgot about all the techniques, skills, theory, etc. Start with faster heartbeat, chills, goosebumps, and ended up with tears, and it happens everytime, no matter which performance you watch and how many time you re-watched them. She can be that pure just because she sings just for God and for you, not for money or fame. Yes her performances are completely singing lesson, but I would say that as a journey. Just look at her expression, gestures, stage presents, interactions, vocal techniques, everything. She takes you to church. Thats experience. If you have time, go check out her background and life story, so you'll understand why she able to did that and be counted as a star rated singer, on top with other 4 best female singers in the world. Oh, and talking about crazy ending note, lol, buckle up and wait, till we meet again on other of her masterpieces. I'm very excited for your next reaction of her. Cheers^^

Glad you made your acquaintance with Sohyang, my favorite singer since I got to know her 4 years ago. The rearranged rendition by Sohyang is the most striking "You Raise Me Up" I've ever heard. Technically speaking, Sohyang is as impeccable as this world has to offer, but the unique thing about Sohyang is not about her vocal acrobatics but the emotion she invokes with her voice. BTW, she didn't really showcase her range in this performance. For a more detailed read of her power and range, see her in Lean On Me on the Michael Bolton Special @ kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaqnyaWlnMa0gKg.html BTW, the guy you saw is Shane Filan of Westlife, the Irish Boy band who also made this song into a hit. The instrument you wonder about may be a celtic whistle. You have a rather unique way of doing reactions. I've never seen anyone make so many comments on the instrumental and stage settings. At the risk of being called biased, I would say that South Koreans are truly outstanding with its stagecraft.

For me there are three top discoveries since finally starting to appreciate solo vocalists (via youtube reactors) recently: - 1) So Hyang - great to see this reaction, 2) Dimash Kudaibergen (as already featured admirably here) and 3) Hua Chenyu who followed Dimash by getting 2nd place in the "Singer" 2018 competition. He went on to win it earlier this year. He is very different from Dimash vocally, but has amazing talent for communicating the complete package of a song, together with composing and arranging. From the way you appreciate and analyse the first two, I do think you would find him interesting to add to your featured artists. At least 6-8 songs are needed to get a sense of his versatility. More than most, his performances greatly benefit from having English subtitles, even though there's something impossible about fully translating the Chinese meanings. So Hyang hits pretty high notes in this song, she just makes them so effortless and keeps them in proper service of the music. As a Christian myself, her gospel background appeals to me very much. She sings primarily to encourage and inspire people, and she does that so well. I have enjoyed many reactions to these artists through this time of virus lockdown. Yours is one of a handful of favourite channels, and I thoroughly enjoyed the full Dimash concert stream last weekend. Thank-you.

She has much longer sustained final notes with vibrato in other songs, but this was a straight tone which is harder to sustain. Fate has an impressive ending with transitions from one sustained note to another. Dream has a sustained Bb5 in mixed voice transitioning to a sustained D6 head voice. Second she had pneumonia and had been advised not to sing. Please listen to SOHYANG (소향) & DIMASH (Димаш) Shocking High Notes! kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYGdz7KQXZydc9I.html to see the extent of their ranges and textures are similar and her voice does not thin out as much as Dimash in the highest part of their shared mixed voice and head voice register ranges.

She had pneumonia that day and I'm guessing that's the reason because over 40 of her performances she holds a much higher note for 10 to 15 seconds.

I love how reactors who are usually of a particular music genre reacts to music of a totally opposite one yet the human experience is still the same. Awesome! You got good eyes to take note of the lights and the production that changes based on the arrangement to get a different feel and theme of certain parts. This is a fantastic collaborative effort by everyone to give the audience something of a religious experience.

Next you should check out Sohyang's performance of "Fate" ... You can find the EngSub version on Vimeo, it's a Korean song and one of her most beautiful performances IMO. And she sustains her notes pretty long in that one ;)

Great reaction! Sohyang is incredible! One of the best vocalists ever! And as amazing as this performance is, she actually had pneumonia at the time so this isn’t even her full potential! She’s 42 years old and has a background in gospel, and she’s spent years perfecting her technique to where it is now. If you were a fan of this, I’d also recommend her performances of “Arirang Alone” and “Everyone.” They’re even more incredible!

fab reaction xxxx she is such a beautiful performer and singer isnt she. stunning voice. her performance of bridge over troubled water is outstanding. on another note if you up for more epic performers maybe you could check out a composer/singer/performer from china called hua chenyu. totally up there with dimash for different reasons. his original compositions and re arrangements, imo, are the best i have heard for decades. more of a rock voice but has many tones and can do soprano as well as rap and much more. all of his performances are stunning and visual and very unique. i can give you a whole list of his work but most people start with nunchucks and then fake monk. i have been following his music for nearly 2 years and he has the most beautiful pure personality i have ever seen in a person....is that enough to convince you to check him out.... my friend, exaggerated, dad i am home, i am what i am will leave you in tears. his performance of folding is visually outstanding, i know you like the visuals so think you would love that one. there is also a you tube chanel called hua chenyu english that works tirelessly to translate is work.

You're going to love So Hyang! Beautiful voice, good person, and she's a Christian. She's turned down mainstream contracts, because she sings for God. She sang gospel for 20 years and also sings Korean traditional music. Two of her amazing recent songs are "Everyone" and "Arirang Alone." My personal favorite is her gospel version of Simon & Garfunkle's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," because I've always loved that song. She's excellent in her own right, but she's not Dimash. Dimash is one of a kind. Speaking of Dimash, you've done so many of his pop/opera ballads. Will you do some of his other music styles? I think Ogni Pietra is the only non-ballad you've reacted to. In his concerts, half the songs are up-beat dance/pop songs. Have you seen any? The best is "Screaming - Idol Hits." Please react to it, if you haven't, before doing more slow songs. Kazakh music is closest to his heart. I don't mean Unforgettable Day, a pop ballad with Kazakh lyrics. I mean traditional Kazakh songs. Have you reacted to "Adai + Daididou"? Or "Samaltau"? You don't know Dimash's soul until you've heard his Kazakh songs. He's also done tributes to Queen/Freddy Mercury and Michael Jackson, two of his biggest influences. He even dances a little! My favorites are his cover of "Earth Song" as a duet with rapper Victor Ma and his Queen Medley with Super Vocal. His "The Show Must Go On" cover is also wonderful. If you feel like hearing something you have never heard before and likely will never hear again, react to "Drunken Concubine + Diva Dance" with Dimash and Li Yugang. Two different songs, styles, countries, singers, plus a few extra Dimash surprises, as usual. Diva Dance is the alien song from the movie The 5th Element. Dimash is the only male who can sing it. Li Yugang is trained to sing Peking Opera. The combination of all this is mind-blowing! Just do me one favor: don't pigeon-hole Dimash as a pop/opera ballad singer, simply because those are the most requested songs. He is so much more than that! Please do him the honor of reacting to his wide range of music styles. Thank you! I'm subscribed and look forward to your reactions!

Agree with everything you said😄 Both of them are amazing singers. But Dimash's music somehow doesn't fit in a genre. I always have a hard time when people ask or guess what genre he sings in. I can't name it, simply Dimash genre. 😆 I've never heard so much versatility from any singer before.
