This was the song that got me hooked back in 2017....Amazing band!

This is one of the iconic songs by Lovebites. Some people say that they are redefining metal or that they are the full package.

Miyako is a master of heavy metal compositional design. She varies the structures of her songs so they never seem formulaic. It may appear that the song follow the same model of introductory riff, verse, chorus verse , chorus, solo, bridge, conclusion. Nothing could be further from the truth. Miyako uses a number of strategies to create a multi-colored palette. Rising, Shadowmaker and others begin with a duo guitar intro. These martial openings function as a military call to arms before the song s explode into the main theme. Then there are songs like "Mastermind 01", wich jumps right into a crunchy guitar riff. But the riff changes shape, increasing in complexity before Asami begins to sing. Even a simple opening guitar part such as Empty Daydream adds a descending quad prior to resolution. These things add complexity to the playing but, more importantly, they make the riffs, and the songs more interesting. Miyako's compositions are above all, true songs, with a foudation of melody. Miyako writes crunchy riffs that are clearly rooted in the rhythmic world of heavy metal. But she also has a deep romantic side. Her beautifull solo in "Break the Wall" could be put in a time machine, then set back to Tchaikovski to be incorporated ito his "Nocturne in D Minor" without changing a note! Miyako's inclination to lush romanticism goes beyond LOVEBITES ballads or slow sections. It can be found in hard-charging songs such as "Rising" Miyako and Midori conclude their guitar battle with a dual guitar section that is so passionate that it is reminisent of the piano sonatas of Alexander Glazunov, wich are the apotheosis of Russian Romanticism. As a guitarist, Miyako can be distinguished from Midori by certain elements of her playing. These include pinch harmonics and staccato scale runs. When a song calls for a wah pedal to be used it is almost always Miyako who is playing that part. More importantly. Miyako's solos tend to be more structured - theme, development, resolution - than those of Midori, who is almost always wild and unpredictable. Farewell Miho! And yes, LOVEBITES is ON Hiatus!

Miho the bassist founded the band with Haruna (the drummer), the bassist left the band last summer after they did this exact live performance concert you just watched, the band then took hiatus until they find a new bassist. In the meantime Asami (singer) got married and Miyako (guitarist/piano) was pregnant and also got married, so the band is on hiatus now. Good news is that all the members posted photos with them practicing so that means they are back together and maybe preparing something so the hiatus doesn't look like it's gonna last a long time

Miho their bassist left the band on August 17th. Asami and Miyako recently married and Miyako gave birth to a child. She was around 3 or 4 months pregnant during this video. So yes they are on hiatus, but the remaining four band members stated several times that they would be back. They needed time to recover from the loss and to hire a new bassist and settle their personal lives. I am hoping for a Spring return. The four have been posting photos of them together on Instagram so I believe they are staying together.

You need to watch the song We the United where they give a masterclass in dual harmonies that includes sweeping, tapping and everything you can ask for. And they do it in perfect unison for about 2 minutes. I think Miyako's stoic countenance might be partly due to her classical training and partly because her emotions come out in her playing...her fingers give more emotions than most actors 😀

Lovebites has been on hiatus since August, when the bassist Miho left the band. Since then Asami got married and Miyako also got married and had a baby. (she was 4 months pregnant in this video) They have become more and more active on social medias lately and Miyako even said yesterday on Twitter "We are already doing various things at home". I agree, in the Scream for Me show which is from 2019 they do some mistakes here and there for sure. But they have improved quite a lot since then!! 🤘🙂🎸

Little note: Miyako was pregnant (4 months) during this performance!

I have yet to hear a song by Lovebites where there isn't a wow factor. They are, in my opinion, flawless. Master musicians/vocals, songwriters, and lyricists. I have been listening to them for about 2 years now and I cannot get enough of them.

This song is so solid, one of my favourites and the guitarwork in here is just so ridicolously good that it tickles.. Next some duo guitarwork, quite similar to this is Sign of Deliverance live 2020 in Zepp Diver City Tokyo, won't regret it 🤟🐺

For me the Shadowmaker solo(s) is/are their best constructed solo in all their works. It just is so melodic and flows so effortlessly from start to finish with not a single note out of place even at speed. Midori’s lead in is as good as it gets and in the music video, which was my first LB exposure a couple of years ago, when she smiles with pleasure while playing it.. i was like “wtf is this…metal solos and smiles”. The funny thing is for all the accolades this band has a unique gift seen over and over. Their version of metal makes people smile while watching them perform. I cant remember smiling while watching a band as much as with them and i dont even understand the phenomenon..

My very first song from Lovebites back in 2017, and one of my favorite. And yes they are but they will be back stronger with a new bassist.

LOVEBITES is also my favorite metal band to watch live. I have watched Daughters of the Dawn and Five of a Kind concerts back to back. Still waiting for my Heavy Metal Never Dies copy to arrive because their material is not available in the United States. That sucks!!! I just listened to the Painkiller cover and I was blown away by these five maidens of metal. LOVEBITES kicks ass!!!

Miyako (black hair/guitar/Dean) was 4/5 months pregnant when this conceet was recorded. She gave birth and gor married in August 2021. The band has been on hiatus since August due to Miyako giving birth and Miho the bassist leaving the band.

Cool that you're looking for bands to get you more inspired and work harder to be a better player. I was originally inspired by the classic thrash bands (Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer) then got heavy into Tool and tried to write my music like that, but it doesn't come out in that style anyway (I've got a classical music background). Basically I was stagnant for about 10 years until I found Japanese Neo-classical metal band Versailles, and they got me to really polish my chops, study more theory and learn composition (well, I ended up studying orchestral composition, buy it applies the same). I finally found a band that was closest to what I was trying to do. Symphony X is close, but a bit more prog, Versailles is like a vampire Bach rises from the grave and plays metal 🤘 Keep being inspired and work hard!

The original MV of this song was the second they posted and was the one that broke through for them, making jaws drop all over the world. They have continued to tweak it, as they always do. For me it brings back memories of first discovering them and having to reboot my brain.

LOVEBITES have announced a hiatus because: - Miho ( bass, backing vocals) in August 2021 she left the group . - Miyako (guitars, piano, keyboards, backing vocals) gave birth to a baby in August 2021. The "Shadowmaker" video you reacted to is a concert recorded on March 26, 2021 (BLU-RAY / DVD "HEAVY METAL NEVER DIES - LIVE IN TOKYO 2021"). I watched "HEAVY METAL NEVER DIES - LIVE IN TOKYO 2021" completely several times and it is noticeable that Miyako is pregnant. This is especially noticeable when, after the concert, the girls thank their team of assistants (sound, light, stage, etc.) and share their impressions with them. Miyako was 4 or 5 months pregnant. And she played very well the concert, which lasted 2 hours ! 🤘🐺

​@@muto4055 Think that for another 2-3 years Miyako will not be able to go on long foreign tours. But she will be able to write songs and participate in concerts in Japan this year. Hope so. Musical geniuses like Miyako cannot live long without music.😊 Tamu quickly returned to work after giving birth.Tamu went to the filming of the video REVIVE with her child. On the NEMOPHILA KZread channel there is a video of how REVIVE was filmed.

It would be just too difficult for me to have a top 5 Lovebites tracks. Top 25 maybe.

If Bruce Dickenson and Mariah Carey had a child , that would be Asami ! Yes they are on hiatus as bassist left and Miyako just had a baby.

As other people have commented, Lovebites are resting and deciding their future. Thanks for your various reactions to Lovebites. The word for you and your fellow guitarist is practice. I know it is boring and the temptations of the for want of a phrase 'rock & roll' lifestyle gives instant gratification, but why so many Japanese bands are so good, is the hours of practice and going over and over the same solos, duets until it becomes a muscle memory. I have read that Midori and Miyako, take this a stage further, when they are competent enough to play perfectly, they look to make the solos/duets more complex.

One of the greatest rock bassists of all time was John Entwistle. John stood still without bouncing around on the stage and let his fingers do the work. He wasn’t called Thunderfingers for nothing.

I predict that Miho will get together with 1 or more members of Mary's Blood to form a new metal band. especially seeing how successful she was by forming Lovebites. It would not surprise me if either Haruna or Midori were to jump ship and join Miho if she was to form a new band.

There's no way that's happening. Midori has said that if she can't play with Miyako, she doesn't want to play at all, and all four have repeatedly said they are committed to each other, and to Lovebites. They might do something else as a side project, but this band will continue to be the main focus of the four remaining members, for sure.

@@PaulEMoz I hope you are right. I would like to see Midori, Miyako, and Hal-Ca from Asterism get together to record an instrumental album. But then again, I am one of those people that is hoping that Haraguchi-san will leave Nemophila to join Lovebites as their new bass player.
