Shiv: a knife type weapon Shank: to stab/slash The story of V’s character is that he and his sister have an alcoholic abusive father And the story about “girl” in the lyrics is that it was originally supposed to be “friend” but “girl” flows better

@@JohnReavesLive Yeah, the things happening in the Run MV are all pretty sad and serious. They're each really struggling and there are lots of references to events in the BU. Thanks so much for your videos - I've been binging your BTS playlist this evening! I really appreciate your insights as a musician. And you've got so many great insights into the BU already - everything you said is right on. Some people like to look at explanation videos and get the story explained to them - I think it's more fun to watch the videos and figure out some of it on my own first. To this day, I Need U still gives me the chills. And you were right when you said there’s a huge contrast when they are together vs when they are alone. It’s the main theme along the BU: their friendship. As for V, the man he killed was his abusive, alcoholic father. The girl was his sister. And yes, there are themes of suicide in the BU (e.g. Jimin tries to drown himself, JK jumps off a building, etc.). I love that you reacted to these songs, thank you! Just know that the BU is very complicated and confusing even if you watch all of the videos in order. The storyline also includes books, webtoons, short films, etc… I would strongly recommend watching xceleste’s 2020 update explanation video once you are done experiencing the BU for yourself. Her video is the best one out there.

If u doing BU storyline, ur order is wrong. I need u first, then on stage prolouge and then Run. For V diving on the water, is a continuous story on prologue stage, when V jumped to the sea (he want to commit a suicide after he stabbed his father), in i need you MV, Jimin also want to commit a suicide with drowning himself in bathtub, Suga burn himself in fire, JK get car crash (in other alternate time, he jumped off from building). So there is 4 members is supposed to be death on first and some alternates timeline. So in RUN is the continuously story after he jumped into the sea, that he is struggling inside the water, but later he comes up. It can be described that V struggling n drowning for his guilt but later he can get through it (survive). There is so many interpretation for that

They don’t typically sing about traditional girl boy romance so the girl here can reference any kind of relationship. The beauty of their lyrics is it’s up to interpretations. There’s also theories that the “girl” they sing about is the music industry. Re listen with that interpretation in mind. I was mind blown bc it fits too. I forget which quote for which song, but JK says one is the sadness behind happiness and the other song is happiness behind sadness.

💜WELCOME TO THE BU...Hint - just know that the songs lyrics do not always reflect everything in the MV in the BU.... it is what you are seeing - not hearing that's important. If you get further into the BU the fact that when apart their lives are horrid and together their lives are great is important. In the song the word - girl, ... doesnt always mean that specifically - it can be anyone/anything you love or need that you have a toxic relationship with a girl/guy, parents, friends, drugs, alcohol. Also fun fact - this song was going to be "I Need You, Chingu (Friend)" but "Girl" sounded better. However of course the BU MVs can be held as stand alone MVs - people have many interpretations for the way BTS art speaks to them. RM has said that he won't give us the all the answers to every song/mv rather it is the journey we take with each song/mv and how it speaks to us specifically that matters. He wants to get people thinking for themselves. And Tae killed his father after seeing him abusing his sister one too many times. (Each member of BTS has a ficticious role in the BU none of this reflects their actual lives.... xCelestes guide to the BU will explain the storyline) Synopsis and MV order - credit to BTSWiki - bts.fandom.com/wiki/BTS_Universe "Seven boys. Best friends. Their fates intertwined through the good times together, but also the tough times, as they have gone their separate ways and suffered greatly as a result. When all is almost lost for these boys, one is given a special chance to go back in time and help his friends fix the mistakes that led them down this path. Ok, so you’ve gotten yourself into the Bangtan Universe (BU). Videos associated with the BU over the years are marked as BU Content. Not only that, but you watched the first two videos out of order. I Need You was first, then Run. And, these aren’t the first 2 songs referenced in the “Yet to Come” video. No way you could have known this! So, here’s some additional info to help you out on this journey. The opening scene in YTC (Yet to Come), you see desert, but hear the ocean. This is a reference to the song, Sea. It wasn’t on an album. Next, you see JK holding his hand up to look through a “finger” telescope. This is the exact motion he did in Epilogue/Euphoria except in that video, he was looking at the ocean. Next, BTS sitting on the chairs in the desert is what JK actually sees through his looking glass. This is the exact way that they were sitting in their Just One Day video. That’s all in the first few seconds of YTC! and it just continues on from there with constant references. React to xCeleste’s Explanation Video for YTC for a detailed breakdown. Honestly, that video doesn’t even catch every reference, but it’s the best I’ve seen so far. I’m a 55 year old ARMY from here in the USA. BTS found me just over a year ago when I was having a really difficult time in life. They changed everything for me. I know you don’t, but never under estimate the power of music delivered by incredible human beings! As Jimin would say…”You nice, keep going!” 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

As I'm sure other people have advised you, you watched these in reverse order. "I Need U" is the first video in the BU. You did a good job in noticing the different stories that BTS can tell with a single song and MV. I've seen them telling as many as 5 stories, all with the same song and video. As you noticed, "I Need U" is one of those. Another aspect of the guys in this video is that they also each represent a particular problem that young people, in particular, face. It can anyone of any age, though. RM is poverty. V is domestic violence. J-Hope is drug a ddiction. JK is homelessness. Jimin is depression and Suga is suicidal tendencies/thoughts. You mentioned going through the BU, but the BU isn't just MVs. It's also short films, a webtoon, a video game, and a couple of books. Also, I'm sure that people have said that you should ignore the lyrics in the BU songs, because they aren't relevant to the BU. That's not entirely true. All 7 of the guys have solo songs in this era that are relevant to both their real lives and the BU. V's song, Stigma, even has a line in it about "pieces of broken glass that I can't reverse". Considering that you just watched his character kill his own father with a broken bottle, it seems pretty relevant to me. Feel free to make your own decision, though, of course. I just wanted to say that I disagree with the people who say to ignore those songs. Have fun!

When RM wrote the lyrics he wrote "I need u friend", but if you sing it like that it doesn't sound good, so he changed it to "I need u girl". The real meaning is that of I need you friend, so it's a breakup song and at the same time it fits into the story they're doing. So there's a thing called BTS Universe. It's a story line. You need to watch all the MV's in order to understand the storyline. It's almost like a puzzle but lemme tell you it will blow your mind. The storyline itself is very deep. BU timeline - I Need U MV (original ver.) - HYYH on stage prologue video (need subs) - Run MV - I Need U MV (Japanese ver.) - Run MV (Japanese ver.) - Epilogue Young Forever MV - WINGS SHORT FILMS (ALL NEED SUBS) >#1 Begin >#2 Lie >#3 Stigma >#4 First Love >#5 Reflection >#6 Mama >#7 Awake - Blood Sweat & Tears MV - Wings Tour Finale VCR - Wings Concept Book + Smeraldo blog posts (these are images, notes, interviews & blog posts that explain a bit of the storyline but you can read them in your own time when u reach this point) - Love Yourself Highlight Reels video - HYYH Notes : LY Her - Euphoria Theme of Love Yourself Wonder Video - Fake Love MV Teaser #1 - HYYH Notes : LY Tear - Fake Love MV (extended ver.) - Epiphany MV - HYYH Notes : LY Answer - Save Me Webtoon (yes, a full webtoon) - HYYH Notes 1 BOOK - HYYH Notes : Map of the Soul Persona - HYYH Notes : Map of the Soul 7 - HYYH Notes 2 BOOK (I cheated a bit from Landon Mark's Roadmap since i forgot where the different notes were placed) If you don't feel like doing all the research and theorising, I highly recommend you watch XCeleste's videos on the BU. And you're right, when they're together they're happy. It's basically the only time they're actually happy. RM - works in a gas station, the clients treat him like shit (throwing money on the ground instead of giving it to him) and imagery of him smoking. Jin - in a room alone, the flower petals (from a smeraldo flower) start burning, he is a very important character in the storyline. (All the MVs under the same storyline can be found by looking at the description of the videos, they are marked with "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment") Suga - in a motel, missing someone (scene in the bed), buys gasoline and burns the room with himself inside (suicide). *RM did not burn his room that was just a very good video transition 😂 J-Hope - is sick and needs meds (apparently suffers from narcolepsy, he actually has munchausen’s syndrome), but abuses the drugs and passes out in the sidewalk of a road from an overdose Jimin - in the bathtub burning a photo, he seems in distress and scared, tries to drown himself. V - catches his dad abusing his sister, in anger and adrenaline attacks his dad and accidentally kills him Jungkook - gets into street fights, seems to not care about anything (depression), ends up being hit by a car at the end

i need u - on stage prologue (eng sub) - listen to butterfly (lyric video) it's about the fragility of youth and is played as the main music of onstage prologue - run - young forever - But then continues into the Wings Short Films and songs and Love Yourself Series - Their personal journey is mirrored in the storyline - which is why Map of the Soul Persona, and 7 also help complete their journey from the brashness of adolesence, fragility of youth, taking courage to spread WINGS and fly into adulthood, thinking love is about finding love with someone else and then realising true love starts with yourself and to embrace all your scars. This is why at such a young age, they already have an anthology album. I really recommend you watch the Rise of Bangtan Series.

I was able to attend a concert of Linkin Park when I was younger. It was awesome! Anyways, I believe "I need you" has happiness behind the sadness. While "Run" is sadness behind the happiness. This BU (BTS universe) is really deep and way too much for my 143 sexy brain can understand Lol! But yeah, when you get to more of their vids, everything will all start to come together. I'm sure someone has mentioned this to you by now but BTS has a storyline that carries through alot of their videos including these two you just watched.. so yes they are most definitely connected. it's a very long and very deep storyline that is hard to follow if you don't know the backstory and watch it from the beginning. There are way better Army's out here than me to point you down that path. You are right in that they are always happy and things are good when they are together, and everything goes horribly wrong when they are apart. That being said.. the songs are definitely able to stand alone and still be enjoyed for what they are. I'm loving taking this journey with you 💜

Loved your reaction!!! Just wanted to say that thank you for going back and watching the MVs’ so you can understand Yet to Come references!! Second, their will be a large influx of people who will push you to do the BU. I HIGHLY encourage to do what you feel right to do or want to do. Personally I just not fully interested in it (is it too hard to keep up with for me and I not the biggest fan of puzzles). So do what you want. If you want to do the BU, do it. If not then don’t. If interested here are two ways of doing it, in my opinion: -Watching xceleste’s explanation video (THEORY) first then go explore it yourself Or -Do the BU by yourself start to finish…Since I haven’t watched the BU and everything fully I can’t say the next thing is for certain; however come up with your own theory/explanation. It is alright to have your own thought and ideas of it, their is no right or wrong way. (Idk if there is a right story for the BU; I could be wrong) -Take it slowly and go at your own pace (THEIR IS A LOT involved with the storyline from; MVs, books, games, etc) Edit; I think an amazing thing about BTS music is you can enjoy the song without having to know the deeper meaning. However if you are willing to read the lyrics and dive deeper the songs get so much better and deeper. It is like pilling an onion but instead the more you peel the sweeter and taster it gets, lol.

While I think it is awesome I sometimes some ARMY make the reactor feel like they have to do the BU. While some ARMY push people, some people just aren’t ready or too early in their BTS journey to dive deep into it or sometimes these type of stories isn’t for them… I just wanted to make sure you knew you had a choice and to do what you want… *note-most ARMY aren’t trying to be pushy or put pressure into the reactor they just can be really passionate…

I'm already 1year+ into army but I still don't dare to touch/ explore the timeline of BU bcs it's so complicated and heart-wrenching. I know bits and pieces as ARMYs always discuss and theorize about the storyline but I don't want to jump into it yet 😂 but as someone who study literature these BU intrigued me the way they put out a storyline in music videos, webtoons, prologues and epilogues of their concerts and albums. It leaves impact on their arts and fans often theorize abt it. It's fun bcs the storyline are separate and its up to fans to connect the dots and make up theories where they see fit. The BU created this multiverse stories within their real identities. It's so fun seeing the way we connect stuffs even tho sometimes we overthink and exaggerate them 😂 like we connect everything even tho initially it meant nothing, we are so into it lol. I love how BTS MVS are always artistic and cinematic. It has symbolism and meaning. It connects to the BU but still makes sense with the mood of the song. BTS entire discography can be confusing for non army, bcs everything is related and tells a story. HYYH (the most beautiful moment in life) album has a deep meaning for bts and army, maybe bcs it encompasses the youth theme, tht contains raw, real, experiences and struggles of youth. The carefree and youthful vibe, but also real and dark.

Guys you gotta let him know which videos to watch in what order lol maybe you did and he just kinda did it however … seems like he does less of what people ask for and more what seems more interesting to him. It’s totally fine to not be into the whole BU and everything or wanting to dive deep into it anyway for sure. It’s def not a necessity but is a cool little piece of their artistry and what is so different about how they did things.. especially when it comes to such taboo topics in Korean culture. I always really wish people would react to “rise of bangtan” when they have questions about bts and how it started… the BU and how their music style changed… you can’t understand why bts is so far outside what is the norm in Korean popular media if you don’t understand the Korean music industry or Korean culture. The earliest songs are very specific and the way the albums are ere so structured to provide an outlet for those suffering in silence. The “rise of bangtan” docuseries really elaborates that the whole school concepts from the beginning … and the importance of the words and them being open with their own experiences in their music. All of the school stuff and mental health from this one hit hard especially when you have a better understanding of school in their culture.. and how damaging the societal expectations are for the youth there that lead to them choosing the only way out that they see. Korea has the HIGHEST suicide rate in the world for kids 10-19 years old…. And the major cause for them is the pressure put on them about school and lack of resources for mental health, addiction, abuse… and many other subjects that they’re expected to hide. Again.. the rise of bangtan will give him the actual info he is looking for… and asks for in every video but he just doesn’t really listen to these things and does what he feels like. It’s a bit frustrating to not have the context bc he’s forming so many wrong ideas bc of it. Bc he won’t learn the foundation of their culture and industry then he’s never going to really understand so much of what’s the core of bts

I apologize for being unnecessarily harsh and a bit melodramatic lol I come from knowing nothing of their culture and kpop industry and learned the very long and hard way the things the rise of bangtan series Lays out in the best way I could have imagined. It’s chronological but is made by international army so the info compiled could be on Netflix.. and gives a bit of history to the industry a bit and clips of other popular groups and agencies and what’s so different about bts in the most beautiful way. Everyone takes their journey their own way and I shouldn’t be pressuring you just to do what I want… how you’re doing it is perfectly fine and doing your best bc there’s millions of us so it’s impossible to please everyone. I know you guys do your best and are genuinely interested so again I apologize … I could edit my comment but that would feel insincere for some reason but leaving it just shows you guys are good people and doing your best even when some of us are a bit too much .. take your time and enjoy your journey how you want to do it… there’s no right ir wrong way and I don’t want to add stress or negativity to your experience… so again I really do apologize. You’re doing great ! Also I wasn’t saying you should know the order for the videos either, promise… just asking army to make things a bit clear bc it can be super confusing… but again… however you do it is perfectly fine and nothing has to be perfect and whatever direction your journey takes is how it should be! I’m sure someone else has said it already but just in case you’re interested . The order is 1. I need u 2. On stage prologue 3. Run The on stage prologue video is not a regular music video and it’s a continuation of “I need u” and leads into Run… and the Tae falling into water part is at the end of the on stage prologue video.. it’s a gorgeous video but can be more confusing at first for sure… there is some of the song “butterfly” during part of the video but it’s a totally different style of video which you’ll see if you watch it.. it’s beautifully done for sure

OKAY. SO I SEE NO ONE WARNED YOU ABOUT THE BU! 😂 So starting with the album 'The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt.1' (known also as HYYH 1) and its title song you just watched 'I Need U' the Bangtan Universe or the BU enters the scene. It is basically another universe created by BigHit that is showing the story of seven young guys which the members are playing (remember that things happening in the BU are not real happenings in their real lifes!). BU story is mostly told us in the MVs but there are also additional short films on youtube, notes and books attached to physical copies of albums, a webtoon, a mobile game, fictional social media accounts and blogs, photos and more... And all that content is telling us an amazing, extremely engaging, beautiful but sometimes very complicated story of their lifes where their struggles are portrayed. Unfortunetely, no one warned you and you got the order wrong: 1. Enters 'I Need U' - we see certain struggles of the members: Namjoon is working at the gas station and lives in contener because he's dealing with extreme powerty, he is living a humiliating life, Yoongi has his struggles (I won't tell what because I don't wanna spoil things for you) which lead him to setting himself on fire, Hoseok is taking pills/drugs and falls down on the bridge, Jimin also struggles and tries to drown himself in the bathtub, Jungkook is lost and gets beaten up by some thugs and finally Teahyung has family issues, his father is addicted to alcohol and is beating up his sister and him, finally he loses it what we can see at the climax of the MV and kills his father. The only one without visible struggles is Jin, he has a special role in the whole story. And as you noticed - when they are together they have fun and are happy but when left alone they have to deal with their own lifes and struggles and are suffering. That's the most rough idea of what is going on. Also a fun fact - original lyrics were supposed to be "I need u, friend" but because they didn't sound good enough they changed it into "I need u, girl". 2. Next one you should watch is 'on stage: Prologue' which shows us a bit more hints about the story. 3. And after that is 'Run' which you just watched as well and as you noticed it is similar to 'I Need U' because it continues the story. It is also telling us the general idea of that they are happy when together but suffer when alone. If you wanna continue with the BU, watch the 'Prologue' and let us know, we will let you know what is the correct order of watching things and recommend you next content. Also it is not necessary to know and understand the BU to enjoy their songs, MVs and the band in general. But you will most certainly miss out on some stuff that connect to the story and may just miss some hints, analogies, symbolics etc. And the last things is that the lyrics of the songs and what is happening in the MVs is not always cohesive and usually have only a bit of connection. MVs for the BU are telling the story separately from the songs. So you can perfectly enjoy the songs without understanding the MVs. However, for a complete understanding you have to know the BU. :) For example: you can interpret 'I Need U' as just a song about break-up/relationship problems/dealing with the struggles of youth and it's completely correct, BTS are always saying their songs have many interpretations. But you can also dive into the BU and interpret the song as that you need a friend (or another close person) to deal with your struggles and you cannot always deal with everything on your own. Enjoyed your reactions as always! Thanks. (though I got a bit annoyed you watched it in wrong order, lol) :)

All MVs under the Bangtan Universe (BU) have a line under the video sayinv "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment". There is a particular order to them that builds the story, BUT most of us probably watched the videos at least somewhat out of order before we realized it was a thing. You don't have to watch them in order now, but I would suggest it in the future. There are playlists you can find that already have them in order. 😊

I've just thought about suggesting you to also react to the Shooting Sketch of each MV (there's one for every official MV) and the MV itself altogether since you are so enjoying their music and their MVs and lives. They are always so fun and its a good way to see their personalities and how chaotic they are :D

This is a BU, it's a bit complicate but in the other impirtant things you need to know that Jin is a man who can travel in the time and the unique person who can save the other members. The most sad thing is that Jin can do it but he understand that is not possible, he try it but always come to the beggining

Geez, your "gut feelings" are pretty good," which is why I really love watching your reactions. This song was the one that gave them their very first award (daesung) and began their rise. The one V stabbed was his abusive father who was hurting V's sister - their mother had long left them behind. This is all about mental health and runs alongside their BU storyline, which is really deep. Enjoy this, the world's deepest rabbithole. ~saphire~

"This song "I Need You!" shot them to their initial fame moreso worldwide first with their fans, it took time for them to receive popularity at home, because many couldn't believe that a group from an unknown bear bankrupt label could do so well they were unfairly accused of various things and got a lot of hate from others and their fandoms. This is a part of their history and one of many reasons ARMY loves them more - their rising from the bottom, remaining kind, humble, generous and sincere. This is why ARMY is so protective and some overly so. ~saph~

13:55 This is actually perfectly normal for a BTS song. A LOT of their music does this, they are really good at it. There is kind of a running joke about "depressing, but make it sexy". The sound of the song, the lyrics, the music video and the choreography all have a different feel to them.

Heya! As many have told you already, these are part of the BTS universe, or BU. It's a continuous story that spans mv's, a mobile game, a web toon and notes from the album. If you want to go down the rabbit hole pls do. I know some people suggested you watch the explanation video by xCeleste. If you're wanting to check out all the mv's in the storyline, I recommend saving the explanation for after you at least check out the mv's 1st. The story rly kinda needs at least the webtoon game to understand, but based on your reaction to these 2, you're really good at it, you've already picked up on some things, like the fact that when they're together it's good and apart they're bad so you already have a knack for deciphering things. I'd watch the explanation video after watching the mv's, because your theories so far are correct (except it's not a girl they're singing about is actually each other. , Hence you noticing the theme of togetherness vs apart) if you don't want to figure it out yourself then the explanation would be good to watch just so you'll understand future mv's. Be aware in the comments some people have a couple spoilers, so if you see this 1st and don't want spoilers, be careful reading the comments. Either way, just enjoy your BTS journey! We're here for it no matter what you choose. 💜 Borahae 💜

Thank you for being here :) Hope you have an amazing day/night

@@JohnReavesLive it's out of order but these are 2 of the 1st few in the storyline so that won't mess you up too badly at all. I think it's more fun for the reactor (& us but that's secondary to your own enjoyment so don't forget that 🙂) to watch the story unfold and figure it out themselves. personally I love hearing a reactors theories. If you want to do the story lines, I or others can give you a list in order. I suggest telling your fans that you want to do the storyline, and ask us to not give spoilers. Most reactors do that but have us tell you if you're on the right track or not, and it's up to you to decide if you want us to correct you if your theories are wrong or not , without spoilers. You also have to decide if you want us to let you know if there's something you missed. I'm going to give you 1 hint to help you, it's not a spoiler. Keep an eye out for pairings of the members, and pay close attention to the mv's & almost every detail in them (more than the lyrics, although you can still dissect them just know they don't usually have anything to do with the storyline. ) Since you're thinking of doing the story, if you don't mind watching the mv 2x you can still watch all the mv's referenced in yet to come 1st, it never hurts to watch storyline mv's 2x because you'll almost always miss things the 1st time. Up to you ofc, & if you're still going to watch all the mv's from yet to come before doing the story, just be sure to let us know so we don't accidentally give something away. Have a lovely night/day and thanks for being interested in the BU, I'm sure everyone else is just as excited about it as I am 😀💜

The two videos are so BTS BU content! Note that there's a THISISNEVERTHAT notion in BTS lyrics and videos (this sentence is in JK's Save Me video Tshirt) meaning that never is what it seems. That's the beauty of BTS work. Exemple : only 2 songs in their work are in fact directed to a girl. None of these 2 here reffers to a girl nor the other BTS songs. 😉😅💜

The BU will leave you reeling. They put so much thought and looked so far ahead to do this. It goes paralleled with songs and MVs. But they go so beyond that by doing albums in series and linking them to literary works. Please watch Xceleste explaining the BU. It will open ur eyes to everything you will see regarding MVs and some songs. Key books are "Demian" by Herman Hesse (Wings Album) "Into the Magic Shop" by James D. (love yourself series) "Jung's Map of the Soul" by Murray Stein. Stein actually published a book about BTS "Map of the Soul 7" album and how they implemented Jung's Concepts. Those 3 books, (many more, but essentially those 3) encompass BTS' philosophy. I love your reactions! You're awesome!.

Im a bit late but I'd like to add that in all BU videos only jk and Jin seem to acknowledge the viewer/the fact that they are stuff in an inifite loop of finding and loosing each other. Jk keeps trying to go back in time and fix things but somehow it always goes wrong. Idk just one of the most popular theories that adds a bit of depth to the storyline.

Yes! Chester Bennington was amazing, saw Linkin Park in concert for my 21st birthday and I still brag about how wicked it was! It hit me hard when he died (and Robin williams too) because i've always been "the funny one" of my friend groups and everyone always says i'm so happy all the time but not many realize how hard my depression hits me and how often I hafta give every ounce of effort to get out of bed and be a good mom for my daughter. To say i'm constantly exhausted is an understatement, but I Need You is such a powerful song, lyrically and visually! I also feel like V was shanking a guy that was supposed to be their dad abusing his sister? Or something along those lines, not necessarily a new boyfriend haha.

These songs can be experienced for what their lyrics say at which point the mvs will feel confused and not quite aligned with the songs. Or the mvs can be viewed as elements to a long storyline which carries through videos across a number of years called the Bangtan Universe or BU. In the later case, which I think provides the most reward, I Need You would be an introduction the each of the characters, their situations, and a tease at a rather complex and dark story to come. Run would be a couple chapters later after Prologue, a short mv film tied to the song Butterfly which lyrically starts the process of laying out the dynamics of the story
