In fact, they wrote "Pied Piper" after someone told them that some fans skip school or work to watch their lives. BTS got worried for this fans and wrote this song for them. It's inspired by the german tale "The Pied Piper", the story of a man who can controle rats with the melody of his flute. He helps a village but they refuse to pay him after that, so at night, he came back and control the children to drown them. So in this song, they are seductive but in the same time, the lyrics say "We know you love us and we love that. We do what we can to put a spell on you, but we don't want to drown you. Your life is still a reality that you have to take seriously."

It is just an adorable positive relationship 🤧

The sheer flex of RM as a song writer, writing this song after years of Army saying how much they love his dimples, and then having the vocal line sing it. While the dance and hip thrust while eye smoldering. I stream if eye smolders were an Olympic sport our vocal line would take gold. Pied Piper just makes me giggle like mad. Korean Army were so worried BTS thought they were slacking off not studying they started posting their report cards and grades (even the college students). These guys live to tease and troll Army I swear, it’s a different relationship than I’ve seen others have with their fans.

I was a metalhead for like 10+ years... I listened to everything from like Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal etc. I was even part of a Black Metal band for a while as a vocalist. But since like 2 years (basically since the start of the pandemic) I have been listening to BTS almost exclusively... I am OBSESSED. It's like they put a spell on me or something, I don't understand it either. It's a little crazy. But I'm happier, so I don't care, lol

Jimin wasn’t always a singer. He’s a contemporary dancer. So just like Jin, jimin learned to sing pretty much from scratch. And had the shortest training period. And to respond to the auto tune comment. Auto tune doesn’t make you sound better. You have to have a good voice to begin with, the auto tune just adds to it. It’s not needed in bts but used to enhance the song.

Yeah I totally agree about the auto-tune thing, ive seen it used in cool ways live, but also seen it used to cover up bad singers lol this is one of those, used to add to the live show things as obviously they all have amazing voices

"Do they do a lot of dancing in this?" Body rolls. Body rolls for days. This performance is ARMY kryptonite. This is the same set as the DDaeng vocal line performance that you reviewed before. Their concerts are wildly emotional - the guys are crackhead goofballs and like to mess around and mess with the audience. Interestingly, I came from Nightwish ARMY over to BTS ARMY (only two groups I have tattoos of), and what caught me about both of them is the lyricism and imagery created. RM and Tuomas are both geniuses. I recommend Spinebreaker.

Hi, a late reaction from me. I like Nightwish and BTS. I had tickets to BTS MOTS7 concert but, sadly enough it was cancelled due to COVID-19. I also had tickets to Nightwish. @@blarmy827 without all the kpop extra's (because all the members have their outside responsibilities) Jungkook is referred to by the members as the center, he has the most stable voice live, and he was at the right age for the dance training to take well. That's the simple way I think about it.

At 73 these two songs left me breathless. Realized I’m not dead wish I was 20 again and gives me something with my very vivid imagination to dream about. They are flawless beautiful talented unattainable angels.

@@JohnReavesLive When everyone are singing really high (including him), which is just sheer talent in itself.. and then suddenly one hears the deepest of deep voice.. it just hits different. In some songs he goes up and then low in a single line.. how he does that is beyond me. And as for the rest ( speaking about the vocal line here ), each one of them can do certain things that the others can't. Which is why every song has a different member that shines in it. Same goes for the rap line. Each one of the 7 members can go solo in their careers and thrive. All of them in one super group.. @@JohnReavesLive Oh, btw their b-side songs are their real flex. No one and I seriously mean that.. no one comes close. But do listen to their famous poppy ones too. They are still very different from the normal pop songs like you pointed out here. The 3 english ones are imo the only mainstream sounding ones. Have fun down the BTS rabbit hole. You won't regret it.

Jimin is unique from most male singers. He actually projects more in his falsetto and upper mix. You'll notice as you see more that he has "difficulty" bringing out his mid and lower register. It's always fascinated me. But, as he has trained both his breathing and his voice, it's not really an issue anymore. I think, early on, he just didn't utilize his breathing as well. Before anyone comes at me, I am OT7, Jimin bias. Doesn't mean he was BAD, just recognizes how hard he has worked.

He came into it as a Baby, straight from Middle School, so his entire adult life has been in service of perfecting his craft.

Singing the line "I'm taking over you" is Jungkook or JK (with PURPLE MIC). He is the MAIN vocalist , so he has more lines on most of their songs. I hope you could check out Jungkook harmonizing and adlibs video by Ida S. It's a very good video .

I used to be an RnB hoe. I would say more than 80% fave songs tend to be in that genre. But BTS, man.... they're something else. The voice I 'listens' to the most, simply because his is what I FEEL most for is V. That deep, honey, soulful, warm molasses, sexy vibe voice was what pulled me in this Bangtan hole for life, not gonna lie, but each of them ARE SO PERFECT. I know they all have worked HARD to improve their voices (and performances) over the years. I've been listening to them since 2017. And their harmonies, definitely GOD TIER. Man, I love them. Live performances are amazing. Their Japanese songs are top tier. “Crystal Snow” live is a tour de force of their talent. Also, rapline live “Outro: Tear” is jaw dropping. I’ve seen most of the great metal & rock bands live Led-Led zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, TOOL, Nine Inch Nails but BTS puts on one of the best live shows ever. I’m 68 yrs old so I saw these bands “in the day”.

From my knowledge they usually sing the song all they way through with everyone but then pick which members fits what part best for the song…

If the other songs you’ve heard are their poppier singles/title tracks, you might enjoy their B-sides and album tracks better, as I do. Particular favorites include Baepsae (Silver Spoon), Ma City, Dionysus, and Dis-ease - all quite different from each other. 😊

Lol! I'm not a pop fan either but I like BTS. It was the song Lie after I heard Black Swan and Black Swan Art Film that hooked me then sunk me. I'm a rock/metal fan too and if I don't see good performance for the first couple songs i hear, I lose interest. These guys....always have amazing performance. These two songs, got me after the live performance. But they were catchy when I first heard them. And then super cheeky when I looked up the lyrics 😉 If you get a chance, check out 2016 MAMA (Boy meets evil pt 1 &2, BSt and fire) it's an award show performance that got me with the dramatics. Then I had to see ever award show performance they did after that. Especially in Asia.

one thing that BTS taught me when i started following them and kpop in general.. don't be confine in a box. prior to bts my music taste are rock and metal some rnb. kpop when i first heard it to my nieces are just cheesy pop bubblegum shallow type music that you can bop on time then forget after,.. but bts open me to a lot of genre and style and made me enjoy music to another level.. and age gender or any of classifications should not hinder anyone to enjoy any music

I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying the Korean. It’s their native language and they shouldn’t be pressured to sing totally in another language. It’s also fun to start picking up the language. Jungkook is the band’s centre so most of their group songs pivot around him. He also sings most of the song guides before they get together and decide who will sing which part. Add to that he does a lot of the adlibs. Except for Jin the vocal line are all part of the dance line. RM loves his dimples and wrote, Dimple, to feature them. At the beginning of Pied Piper you can see those dimples in full forces. You’re description of the technical differences between studio and stage performances was very interesting. Don’t you just love the way they work the stage cams too? Smouldering into the camera is a speciality of theirs.

for real though! its like the cam is another person in the crowd and I love how they use it, it makes the viewer feel more involved with the show!

JK is Main vocals. The rest of vocals line arr considered lead vocal, but Main vocals is above that. JK will usually record the "guide track" so the rest can hear it. He also performs a lot of the background vocals, harmonies and ad-libs. He has a silky voice that is oh so lovely and is best at keeping it steady while dancing. He can also rap and can fill in (and has filled in) for any of the members if needed.

I was drawn to them because of their authenticity. No lip sync. Dancing, singing, having oxygen behind the stage to keep going. They are true to their art! I prever that over every song and Performance from an untrue artist who lip syncs.

V has so much range that he actually has more range than anybody in the group! I don't care what anybody else says his voice is spectacular amazing haunting beautiful and unique!

i was worried when I saw which songs you were reacting to as I thought they would not be your cup of tea. But I loved the fact that as a performer yourself you were able to discuss technical aspects like their vocal range and educate us about vocal volume. I really enjoyed your reaction. And, yes, I am pretty sure that the pied piper metaphor- in the pipe reference was intentional and has more than one meaning! I first watched this with my daughter and was even slightly embarrassed at my interpretation of the lyrics- especially as they are all smouldering into camera at the time. Not enough appreciation is given to their ability to use camera in a live performance- just another skill on top of everything else they do.💜

Jin is the member you’ve least mentioned in your reactions and he’s often overlooked because he’s not technically the best dancer nor technically the best singer in the group (I say “technically” in the literal sense, as in technique). He was scouted and asked to join the group because of his good looks and it’s often made him feel as though he is a less valuable member than the others. In fact, his struggle with Imposter Syndrome is what prompted him to write Abyss. Anyway, he’s my bias (if you can’t tell) and I hope you’ll give him a listen. The fact that their is no Michael or Bobby or Justin of the group is one of the main reasons I love them as a group. They have the freedom to still put out solo & sub unit content while being able to maintain balance w/in the group as a whole. They truly support each others individually projects. Dude, it’s like magic how they cast a damn spell on us. I’m a Gen-X who was soo into rock and alternative for new music and I fell HARD. Now I crave Cyphers and Pied Piper daily. High quality music. Glad you enjoyed. So much there. And in Korean ❤

Jk is considered he main vocalist, he has lots of parts. He does the guides to the songs first then the others add their parts, he does a lot of the adlibs, plus he fills in for those who are sick not just vocalist even the rap line. One the best things about BTS is people who are not into pop or any Kpop they have something for everyone. Their lives are much better in my opinion then their studio versions. They are one of the hardest working groups from day one, and it has paid off for them. Thanks for breaking down everything and I love even though you are not a pop enthusiasts you are giving BTS a listen.

FYI, Jimin didn't know how to sing when he started with BTS. He had to learn. Pretty unbelievable considering how amazing he is! There are a few videos you can watch to learn about BTS. They are A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7, This is BTS/Introduction to BTS, Who Are BTS/Introduction to BTS, and Introduction to the 7 members of BTS.

JK is the main vocalist of the group that's why he sings the most and always at the center too as he has the most stable voice while dancing. But I live for Jin's powerful high notes and falsettos 💜 You'll learn more about them individually, if you're gonna react to a introduction to the members, I hope you find the Draft that was done by Taylor. It's the most updated I have to say.

For me, dimples is such a cute song. Me as a person who have dimples, i get blushing(?) everytime i listen to this song Pied piper actually motivate me to like 'get going' 'keep doing my work' something like that because that song, they really emphasize "hey, you got life. You have school, you have a job, focus on your life too".

If you want to check out more from the Vocal Line, I really recommend House of Cards, and The Truth Untold. They are very different styles of songs to Dimple, and Pied Piper. But they are amazing. Without which member wouldn't they be screwed ? Take anyone out n BTS wouldn't be BTS. Remember, RM said they can't function without Hobi ? Would their lyric writing be the same without Namjoon ? It's the same for every single member. They are ALL essential. Without JK( or anyone of the 6), there wouldn't be a BTS to be screwed. So yeah. ☺️

It's ok to do colorcoded, just avoid these channels: Lemoring Jaeguchi In general, the oldest the video is the lyrics are usually more wrong, because people try to upload as fast as they can as soon as the song is out without bothering to do a proper translation (they just translate from Google or something). They also almost always get who is singing what wrongly. So try looking for newer colorcoded videos, or ones with less views, they're usually closer to a better translation!

You can usually tell which ones use Google translate and which ones are done by actual Korean/English speakers. Don't let people turn you off to using the color-coded lyric videos. They are the best way to learn each of the member's voices.

I saw Magic Shop in your recommended at the end of the Dimple video and I would love to see you react to it. It was written by Jungkook and it's dedicated to ARMY and one of my favorite BTS songs ever. It has all seven members in it, so there is rap involved 😉. It also has a live performance. It is definitely more of a pop-edm song, but the beat is something that always makes me move. Magic Shop was the song that changed me from a casual listener to ARMY. My pipe awakens 😂

Something I like to point out to people bc so many don't seem to realize this about Pied Piper is that RM is the only one actually reprimanding us, the fans, for focusing too much on them and not ourselves. Everyone else is feeding into it and trying to seduce us. RM is the warning and the rest of BTS are the Pied Pipers. At least that's how I always took it. They're so evil for this one haha.

I love all of the members but V and Jungkook are my favorite vocalists and performers . Look at their stage presence they're beasts on stage and cute lil boys off stage (they're the youngest members) . Also each member has a mic color that might help you to tell who's who : _ RM (blue with glitters) , Jin (pink with glitters and sometimes matt light green) , Suga (Black with glitters) , j-hope (Red with glitters) , Jimin (golden or yellow with glitters) , V (Matt green and sometimes matt grey) , Jungkook (purple with glitters)

BTS evolve their music so much at the beginning they were a hip hop group because bts was kind of created with RM in mind as bang PD signed RM first but they slowly change their sounds but to this day they have some songs that still have some of their old hip hop days. I think another cool song to check out is BTS MA CITY lyrics and BTS MA CITY HYYH live concert

one thing about this specific performance you watched - it’s a screen recording from a livestream of a concert, so the audio was captured and distributed in real time (i.e. it sucks, lmao). As someone who’s been watching bts’ livestreamed concerts for years, I’ll say that their audio team isn’t the best (which is wild to me with how big of an advanced team they have behind them). However, these concerts are then put into dvds, where the audio is then edited so the backtrack is heavily lowered (almost non-existent) and their true live vocals coming through the mics are very clear. Most of the time, what’s on youtube are the screen-recorded, livestreamed versions of performances, because the DVD versions (aka the much better audio-edited versions) are taken down for copyright. Just an interesting tidbit I wanted to mention! The DVD version of this exact performance you watched has SUCH better audio quality where their voices come through. Anyway, I appreciate your reaction and your positive comments!

Enjoyed your reaction. Some of my favorite vocal line songs are: Film Out & Your Eyes Tell (both co-written by Jungkook). They are both in Japanese & have very beautiful harmonies. Chris Martin said on the Ellen Show that even though they look like they could be their gym teachers (joking about the age difference) they (the Coldplay members) genuinely love them (the BTS members) & they won’t ever be able to top that collaboration.

I'm enjoying your analysis of studio vs live singing and the constant fight between tone and power while doing live. Some reactor/vocal coaches (I believe one was Big Brain Singer, who has an opera background) have talked about how the techniques for mic'd vs unmic'd vocals differ and noted how well BTS use the former. It really allows them to exploit their full ranges while singing live, makes the most of their variety of tones, and contributes to their ability to cover so many styles and genres.

right?! I love the live shows as playing a ton myself (mine was mostly screaming in a metal band but also doing clean vocals) and its a constant push and pull between power volume and pitch! its like vocal chess and I love it!
