Most of the songs from their “Map of the Soul: 7” album (2020) were never performed in front of a live audience because of Covid. This “Persona” performance is from BTS online concert in 2020/10. It’s in the first quarter of the setlist.

@@JohnReavesLive They performed Black Swan and ON to live audiences for their Permission to Dance concerts in late 2021 in LA and Spring 2022 in Seoul and Las Vegas along with some all- time favorites but they were all OT7 group songs. 💜

Like others have said RM at the beginning struggled with his identity, he wasn't sure if he was a hip hop artist or and idol in the end he chose just to be himself. I think many of struggle with our true selves I know I did for many years but RM lets us know just be yourself its okay. Great start to BTS week.

Persona is the start of BTS's Jungian psychology Map of the Soul era. RM is rapping about how there is much more to him than the public Persona he has created for the public. Despite how artificial it sometimes seems, he recognizes that people's connection to him will continue to be in terms of that Persona. Regardless of his personal doubts and frailties or of the inherent artificiality of his Persona (note the large RM kneeling over the tiny person RM), it will be RM and not Kim Nam Joon the world hungers to know so. It is RM he will show the world.

I love how deep their music is! That’s kind of sad in a way - all these people love him but don’t even know the real Kim Namjoon. I do like how he smiles when the banner falls revealing his real name though. I feel like the guys have been showing more of their true selves this year.

Just wait till you see it in the MMA 2019 performance... 🤯😏 Anyway, the difference between Joke and Persona is that one is his solo project, the other is a solo song within BTS. It's easier to distinguish with Yoongi using Suga and Agust D but the rest of them use the same name for both. They don't have the same rules for solo projects since the BTS songs have to fit into a concept. In this case it's part of the rap line trilogy Intro: Persona, Interlude: Shadow and Outro: Ego - all a part of psychiatrist Carl Jung's Map Of The Soul which their latest albums are based on. (It'll be worth it looking up the main points of the model. 😉👍)

That makes so much sense! I didnt even think of the fact that Joke was a solo and this was a full BTS song, I love both of them but honestly this one was just a little more catchy! Really would love to listen to the whole trilogy !!! Hope you're having a great day!

The other difference between the 2 songs, Joke & Persona is time between the songwriting. Sure they're only like 5 yrs or so apart, but that's a long time when you're a young person growing into yourself & a long time for an artist expression's of their unique 'voice', esp in your 20s.

Oh LOVE Persona - the question of WHO AM I?! The neverending search for self. Love that they dive deep. Great reaction!! BTS sometimes have single unit songs in their albums - they are still BTS songs - but sung individually within the context of the album. So that’s why you don’t see the other members. Also allows for rest of other. Members in between group performances during live shows. 💜 great reaction!! 💜😈

I am not a fan of most raps, but I love the rap line! First, their lyrics are just outstanding. I hope you will complete the MOTS: 7 concept raps, Suga’s Shadow’s and J-Hope’s Ego.

Epic reaction as always! 💜 RM got so much backlash for becoming an Kpop Idol, some people called him a sell out cause he was doing pop and rap. But damn did he show them that as long as you enjoy and love what you do doesn't matter if you call yourself, an Idol or rapper you can be and do what ever you want if you believe in yourself and love yourself. RM is a role model and someone to look up to.

Hi John. The performance was from a 2-day streaming concert during the pandemic. The world tour they were ready to start was canceled so we had quite a few streaming ones with no in person audience. Each member performed a solo in this one, as they have done in other tours.

The word play, the idioms, the self-reflection, the sass at his haters, the love and appreciation for himself and his growth, his love for ARMY, the honesty about doubt and mental health issues, the big message of 'we're all flawed but watch me keep going anyway'... you will find that each member is an inspiration. One thing that I really admire is that he compells ARMY to read and go to museums as he likes to do. There is a booklist somewhere if that is something you like to do too to get into his head so to speak.

I love that you mentioned Mike Shinoda! Linkin Park has always been my favorite band and I've seen them 3 times live. One of the things that drew me to BTS was that they mix rap with vocals like LP did. I can absolutely see them working together. I really enjoy your reactions.

Yayy BTS week finally started!! Thanks for this John! I'm glad you/Megan chose this song for RM. His lyrics are always dope, got much respect for the leader and president!! Aside from this being a freaking great solo song for him, it being part of the 2019 MMA is a big reason I chose it for BTS Week! I gotta get him through all the songs leading up to Dionysus so he can give the people what they really want! 😆And you are absolutely correct about the order of the videos! Yeah the chorus in persona is really catchy. Kinda hard to follow or sing along with Joke because of so many flow switch but I love those. I recommend to react to Change by RM and Wale. It’s an old English song.

You said their style often reminds you of old hip hop - that's actually because that was a major influence on them! Listen to their song hop hop phile/hip hop lover if you're interested about who the rap lines biggest inspirations as artists were/are :)

Love 'Persona' by RM! I'm sure you have already heard that this song is from Map Of The Soul album so had more influences from Psychiatrist Carl Jung, hence Persona, Shadow, and Ego. This might be better explained thru looking up info on Psychology. Where as to 'Joke' it was made to respond to haters saying the RM couldn't rap fast bc he was an Idol. Sorry meant to make this short but to much info. 😁 Jin heart eye 'Whaaa' is the Easter egg

The live version that you played was from an online concert they did early in Covid called Map Of The Soul ON:E. I think it was June 2020 if I remember correctly. It was an amazing concert. I love the electric guitar in this song. "Do You" is another favourite RM solo that I love. Thanks for reacting.

You'd probably really like "Boy in Love" which is an early edgy rock/ hip hop song -- very different from Boy with Love which is a bit more recent and much softer. Watch the FULL performance after Persona which has all these songs together. Also Mic Drop is a must...! Thanks!!

I have 5 rappers that I really like Suga, RM, JHope, Eminem, Mike Shinoda. I love the content of the BTS rapline, i will never hesitate to let my daughter listen to them.:)

I can’t wait for BTS week you rock John and spoil is so much! This song is amazing and the whole concept of Map of the Soul and they way they want to share a big idea with Army in this case how Jungs Map of the Soul is a helpful way to think about the aspects of our mind with each rapper taking on one in general style. Each rapper used a beat/sound sample and artwork from an early BTS era and then tackled that aspect of Jungs map in their individual style. Absolutely brilliant triptych of songs. RMs lyricism, flow, and brain just can’t be topped. Such a vibe. For yeh latest tours for many reasons they decided no solo or subunit songs (like the all rapline or all vocal line songs) and only did songs with all 7 on stage so no solos with live audience yet. JHopes live (for Ego) is my favorite and Suga’s Mv (for Shadow) my favorite and RM just rocks everything.

This song is connected with Shadow of Suga and Ego of Jhope based in, if i dont forget it, th Carl Jung vision. Watch th video explanations (DKDKTV) of these three songs cuz they are deep. So many ppl just forget th work behind th lyrics n what they want to say beyond a verse, but this trio of music is one of th best works the rap line did with production, messages n theories, is not just them rapping, all i heard abt Persona was just "RM is cool cuz he is fast", n th song is not just that, n about Ego all i heard is: "omg, th music of jhope is so cute" or "th video is so happy" when th colours of th video dont mean th message is happy or Jhope is happy (more because Jhope's music has mostly bright colours like yellow or green, and for that they think are happy songs).😭🔫 in th exterior, th messages are about their career, th identity of RM, th sides of Suga, th struggles of Jhope. but like i said, based on th whole album is a different thing. i will be very glad if u can get into these three songs, because when u put them in order is a big "this is made by a genius".💜

I think this was their MOTS:One online concert in 2020 or 2021... Most of their "map of the soul: persona" songs never saw a live audience beacuse of covid. Although RM did "persona" in an award show with audience in 2019, I think you saw that one...but I'm not sure... This is a solo song for a BTS album so it has a different vibe than joke, mono or the other things RM has done outside of the group.

Love Love the rap line. They're all the Best. Can't wait until you get to Suga's and J-Hope's rap solos and "Do You" from RM. All Their rap songs are lit and deep. Oh, Vocal line can hit you in a different way too. Rap-Line+Vocal-Line=BEST, Lit, Positive, and Amazing Songs 💜✨

I watch all your videos, and never see the Easter eggs, but have been enjoying them nonetheless. As others said, BTS didn't get to do their Map of the Soul tour, but performed it online during COVID. They held several online concerts, and just get back on stage with the Permission to Dance concerts. In those they were finally able to do live performances of some of their songs from Map of the Soul, BE, Dynamite and Butter live for Army. It's hard to compare the member's solo projects (mixtapes) with their BTS solo songs. When they work on their mixtapes, they only have their own voice and story to tell. When they are writing a solo for an album, it is still their voice, but within the larger story of BTS, if that makes sense. Also, it helps to look at when the songs were released. Joke and Persona are both part of RM's journey to understanding and accepting himself, but written at vastly different points in his career. Joke was a direct response to the hateful things being thrown at him from others. Persona is more introspective, a response to his own thoughts about himself. There are four years between the two songs in which RM has grown and matured as a person and artist. 💜

I can't wait u watch MMA 2019 in few days as u said in your live 😉 u will watch an other live of Persona and the crowd ! 🤘💜 For every show and award show they always make different set and sometimes with new arrangements too.

Map of the Soul: 7 was released literally a month before the pandemic started and they were never able to officially tour :(( So this was from their MOTS ON:E concert which was an online concert. It's really unfortunate because it was their 7th year together and 7 is a really special number so a lot of people were looking forward to it but Ms. COVID decided to shit on everybody's parade :// When they offiially cancelled the MOTS: 7 tour, a bunch of ARMYs donated their refunds to help with COVID-19 relief 🥺

@@JohnReavesLive Oh I am very aware how much work goes into making of content. Up until a couple of years ago my friend and I were doing tutorials for games. We started in 2010. All the recording and editing that goes into it is a job in itself. While I loved creating it. Working 12-16 hours a day 5 days a week at my paying jobs then spending another 30 hours on the weekends doing tutorials just became too much. I love my weekly job because I am helping people in my state that are underserved. My biggest reward is getting hugs and thank you’s from them. Knowing I made a difference in someone else’s life gives me great joy. While playing computer games is a stress reliever doing the tutorials was a second job. And I didn’t feel I was affecting people in the same way. I may have but I am not sure. Your reactions bring me pleasure. I enjoy taking the BTS journey with you. It’s a form of stress relief. So thank you! Hopefully it brings you joy knowing you are bringing Army joy and you don’t get burned out. Borahae 💜🇺🇸

Great song choice!!!! You should check out the the live performance of Trivia Love with English subs. It's a beautiful song! Not as rappy as this one but beautiful and amazing in a lighter heartfelt way! If your wanting something harder for RM, I suggest Do You, Throw Away, and Monster.

I became an instant fan after Mic Drop and Boy in Luv (I accidentally spelled it "Love" in the previous comments - whoops!) Also check out dis-ease and telepathy cool hip hop vibes... If you're in a vocal line mood, then "The Truth Untold"... The only thing I'd say BTS can improve on is giving the glory to God for their abilities, opportunities, and successes amidst all their struggles. Also since you're a metal-head try listening to Skillet - a christian rock/metal band which ties with BTS for my favs... Especially Awake and Alive or anything off of their new album Dominion - the title track may blow you away... i wish I had discovered both Skillet and BTS sooner!!!

I highly recommend you react to RUSH (ft. Krizz Kaliko) from RM's second mixtape. Not many people react to it but I think it is one of his best. Oh and MONSTER from the same mixtape. Always check the DKDKTV channel to see if there is an explanation video for BTS tracks. Your viewers will appreciate it as these explain the Korean references and wordplay that would be lost on us. It makes you love them even more! Definitely do these for UGH, DDAENG and IDOL.💜

Hmm graphic at the begining are from old BTS album (3? From 2014). I saw that people told you about online concert so I won't repeat.m, but I mean it is logic3 that if it is solo song that he performed it solo (?), I know if you have band with vocalist and the rest is on instruments, nobody leaves and come back, but they all sing/rap, and they have solo songs on albums and unit, you watched Tear live there also they were only 3 on stage, rest of band was backstage. So rest of members are resting behind in this times when solos or unit songs are up, it is quiet logical I think hmm... Why all band would be there to only dance stay, etc and lose energy if they can take a breath and have more power for song with 7, etc. Solo stuff on albums and solo mixtape stuff are usually different, so of course Joke and Persona would be different hmm we usually don't compare BTS albums stuff and not official stuff... I mean you can compare them but it will be soo different so we look a little different at this things, that is what I wanted to say as "don't compare". Like "Joke", not official stuff, are for free, and aren't promoted, don't have all the team behind, they do it alone, and I don't mean like they don't have help but for example "Deachwita" MV Suga pay from his pocket for it. This stuff are "on the side" things, that they are interested in or what to try, or passionate, or intimate so they don't go on official albums, more like they do what they want. And BTS official music, songs from album are more normal way made and promoted, label do their thing, etc. Jin.
