Metal School - Sortilege

French metal band Sortilege was originally formed in 1980. They wouldn't be together very long overall but would release two albums in the mid-80s that showcase some excellent French metal. The awesome musicianship and outstanding vocals apparently couldn't help Sortilege break into the US, despite recording English versions of their albums. Sortilege broke up in 1986 but vocalist Christian "Zouille" Augustine has put together a new lineup as of 2020, with new material on the way!

As a French guy, I thank you so much for paying tribute to Sortilège. The picture you used of'Zouille and Stephane at an outdoor concert was taken at the Breaking sound festival outside Paris in 1984. I was there, great show ! I didn't know they had reunited even with a different line-up. Thanks a lot for this video !

Never heard of them and agree, they tick all the boxes, good writing, good musicianship, and the singer could trade blows with the best the 80s had to offer. One of the tracks in the beginning made me think "this singer has the range and could sing like king diamond, impressive". Your doing good work metal brother🤘

Soooo great that you showcased this band! Of course they could never make it big worldwide singing in French but the English versions, though very decent, were simply not up to scratch with the original French ones. They were as good or even better than some of the bigger bands and Metamorphose is one the the greatest Heavy Metal albums of all time with Zouille's vocals perhaps, well, for me,the greatest Metal vocals I;ve ever heard. Being from the province of Quebec of course I understood the French lyrics! Thanks for posting this. What a pleasant surprise. Keep up the good work!

Oh seems i cant send you a dm so I'll give my info right here ! So firstly there was a tribute at the "Fall of summer" with member of "hurlement","manigance" and "furie" there was two member of sortilege aswell I only remember Bob snake to be honest... That was the same tribute as the "Keep it true" That was the thing that reignited the sortilege (pun intended) So every member came back to the band except for lapp who was at the time an audio engineer in the US , he was supposed to come back for the next concert the "hellfest" and "l'Élysée Montmartre" So linda from furie was doing tacking vocals for zouillr for the higher note etc.. Then when sortilege started touring it became that a lot of the member had not played in a long while ,that Zouille despite being not as good as he was kicked out Linda ! So Bob snake left at that moment and they took Farid Medjane from "Trust" but he never learned any song for the show so there was a lot of really awkward moment when he didn't know when to stop or start or when to let breath etc... So the next is the Sortilege Facebook page announced that zouille was kicked out but he wasn't aware of that ! He said something like "I have the sortilege brand so I'm the only real sortilege band we will sort this thing with layers" Thats the stage of sortilege right now ! To be fair zouille wasn't up to bar the concert without linda sucked a lot ! And a lot of French fans are tired of this ! On an other note zouille did an album with the lead singer of satan joker awhile ago if you don't know (I hope I made think le understable)

@@salemcorpsgrinder interesting! I did see about the Facebook posts but it was hard to tell if Stephane and the rest are going to do any new recording. I hope so! Yeah, the concert with Lynda was a bit rough. I assumed it had maybe been a while since they had played together? The Keep It True performance seemed better. It’s a shame the band can’t work out their differences. Zouille’s vocals and Stephane and Didier’s guitars were the perfect combination. The new members are great too I’m sure, but usually you just can’t beat the original lineup. Thanks for the extra info!

Could you do Post Morten out of Boston? I know quite a bit about them and still think I have John’s email somewhere. Their first album changed death metal and John’s guitar solos are world class. Check out the song Quietus (charnel house) and tell me I’m not right.

Sorry, may have helped if I put the name. The first album is called Coroners Office. I have their third album disc with a custom sleeve the singer Macca made me in around 2007. That album is incredible. It was just a thought was the song that made me get drums as a kid an start playing. In Boston these guys are rock gods.. no idea how they didn’t break out of New England
