Lanny Sutton Thank you very much. I plan on setting up some test to be done probably mid Feb (current projects are a bit time consuming.
thanks I am trying this on my Yeti Cup today
Any tips for removing what almost looks like burnt area in the etching?

just dab with tissue or q tip if it's fine detail
This Is amazing. I wander if color can be added like on glass. Has anyone tried it?
Will this process work on the color coated stainless steel cups?

Luetta Davis no. Bare metal.

Have you had any battery problems while you were doing this? How long does the battery last?
@keith776

not really.. About ten cups
Hi Keith, First off, thank you for sharing. Second, I can't seem to get this to work. It seems as though the metal is coming out of my pliers and not my cup. Any suggestions? We even upped it from 6v to 12v. Nothing.

Keith Chism thank you!
Would this technique work on White (or any colored) Stainless Steel Tumblers??
@keith776

Jacqueline Gomez no it has to be bare metal.
Sorry if this was asked earlier, but if I do this to a black cup would it still work?
@keith776
7 жыл бұрын
no, unpainted metal only
I did this on some knives and found that sand blasting was faster. I liked the darker color i got with A/C (but don't remember for sure if it was ac or dc).
@keith776

A/C would hurt. Yes blasting is faster, but a battery and some salt water is easy to obtain.

DC does the etching (actual metal removal) AC will darken the metal. You can use an old style power cube and get both 12v dc and 12v ac and make a very usable etching device.
Would 12volt car battery work better or does a higher voltage battery just make the process faster?
@keith776
3 жыл бұрын
You can use 12 volt. Be careful of the amps that it puts out. I've used a 12 battery charger set to low amps.

Keith Chism why, aren’t more amps better? Or would it just be faster?
is it possible to have a reverse out stencil and cover the entire cup and just dip in salt water and vinegar that has a charge applied do the liquid
@keith776

Michael Chase in theory it would work. But any where water touched it would etch. I've seen people use nail polish to insulate.
AWESOME! LETS GO!
Cool, ty!!
It gets a FINE line, which that was. Not finite (the opposite of infinite.), which that line was not, since it looped around.

RoccosPlace1 I noticed that too.
nice video 😎
can I do this on my Rtic cup? I'm pretty sure theyre made of the same metal as the yeti cups

Yes
Cool!
With doing this method of etching or really any kind of etching it's taking off some the surface does that make it able to rust now??
@keith776
7 жыл бұрын
This is stainless steel. It won't rust. Carbon steel will but it will rust with out etching.
very cool
Does that process make it more prone to rust?
@keith776

no it is stainless steel
Show us how to make the vinyl stencil?? How did you cut out the letters so precisely?
@keith776
7 жыл бұрын
It is done with a silhouette machine. It is a vinyl cutter much like a cricket. IT looks like a small printer.
will this method work on a black coated tumbler?

What are printer are you using to make those vinyls?
