Excellent video as always Jim. I've been running a 6 inch coil on my 800. Absolutely love it. It's like swinging a giant pinpointer. Doesn't cover as much area as the stock coil. However it makes zeroing in on a target very easy.

That halo effect info. makes sense to me. I've been a metal detecting enthusiast almost 60 years and always glad to learn something new. I'm waiting for some cooler weather around here in Southeast Louisiana. Very enjoyable, thanks & good luck.

I really liked your tip in another video about lifting up your coil to discern if target is a can or a coin. I tried it out for the first tine today. Thank you for your metal detecting wisdom!

Your video was very helpful. I noticed as well I find targets are better when its dryer then when more wet. Some say the opposite. I agree with you. Also I need to get out more with my smaller 6 inch Minelab coil,,, Thank You for all the advice you give,,,,

I like moist soil most of the time, but If there's lots of iron where I'm hunting I'll wait for it to get dry. Thanks for the support!

Victim of "halo effect" many times. I appreciate your videos as I either learn something (e.g., mailbox tip from last) or affirm something I have experienced. Thanks.

I got a permission at a friends 1900 house. I’m kinda perplexed. I dug a few coins but they were all early 2000’s coins. What I’m not getting is why those coins are so warn down smooth? I have a jewelers loop and could barely see the dates. But yet I can dig up a 1886 IHP at a park in much better condition. Is it the clad metals they use nowadays? Weird?

Modern coins are garbage, especially pennies. They also don't have as bold a strike, so the details are shallow & wear sooner.

That's good advice to give to a newbie. It helps them to learn their machine. I was wondering how long it would take before you would show up on here. Do you even metal detect anymore?

Do you lose depth with a smaller coil ?

It depends on the metal detector, but you do lose some.

💥💥💥💥Wiggling or shaking the coil. I call this scrubbing the target. This is one of the most essential metal detecting techniques. I watch all the big wig metal detecting channels. A lot of those guys have no idea how to scrub a target. I doubt the average viewer is going to understand your explanation. You're probably going to have to do a video, to show them visually, how this is done. Actually, I hope you never do. The less people that know about it, the better for those of us that do.

Well, I'm always looking for new subjects to cover! Scrubbing is a perfect word for it. You're right- I've never seen it mentioned, either. Most channels really don't get as in-depth about technique as I do. Thanks for watching!
