A broken silver ring gives a trashy tone. Same with a toe ring. Metal detectors likes circular objects, bottle caps and ring pulls sometimes gives good tones.

In a hard hit park i pass on most zinc signals unless the depth is 4 inches or deeper

I used to do the same until I dug a shallow Merc dime that was on edge that hit solidly in zincoln range. The reason I went for it is because the tone on my machine was crisp & consistent.

Why notch out penny signals? My first and only class ring sounds like a zinc penny. I was tickled pink to find it. Stay dirty 👍

Great video. So do you go full metal mode all the time?

Actually, no. I always notch out iron and a few midrange targets most of the time. It really depends on where I am & how much time I have.

Hello I have never used a metal detector before but I was thinking about getting one. For two reasons one to find brass in the grass and do some relic hunting. What would you recommend to start out with?

A good all around machine that has a proven track record is what you need. My recommendation would be the Minelab Vanquish. For a good rundown on the buying process, check out my video "Buying a metal detector-The real truth".

If it was my decision to get Someone A New Hobby and I would go for the X-Terra Pro and it's fully Waterproof and not the Vanquish which isn't and just in case the kids accidentally put it in some water and Or get sprayed with the garden hose accidentally and that way your not so much worried about it and it's hot 🔥🥵 already and I have the X-Terra Pro and I plan on getting some River Detecting Done and I don't have to worry if it drops and gets wet and Or if I leave it outside and gets wet and you just don't need to worry if it happens and hopefully it will work again thoughts .... with the Vanquish

I really want to recommend the Xterra pro, but there are still some bugs being worked out on it. It'll handle a little rain just fine, but definitely don't submerse it. The majority of folks that are new aren't getting in water that's deep enough to totally submerge a detector anyway. Water hunting can be frustrating if you haven't learned how to detect on land.

@@freedomdiggersmetaldetecti8964 but I was talking about the kids accidentally putting water on it and the no need to worry about it getting Wet and What Bug's does the X-Terra Pro have that isn't User Error and not knowing what the settings and not many Detector's can be at Full Sensitivity and run Stable and Since I Now have the X-Terra Pro and have tried it out and I have run mine at 12 sensitivity and still getting Targets that are 6-8 inches deep and that was before the rain but I haven't checked yet again after the next rain comes again tonight but I will tomorrow afternoon but I have noticed that if the sensitivity is high and the ground is Dry then you will need to lower the sensitivity down and not try to Dig to China, until the moisture is in the ground again and that's the only problem with the X-Terra Pro that I have seen and the jumpy VDI..... and No updates are needed for the X-Terra Pro.....

And I have found a setting that will give me a iron grunt for the Bad Target but If I change it to another setting it will give me the let's Dig it up great tone target for the same exact target but that's User Error and I don't know this detector and I only have been using the X-Terra Pro for a week now and it's only been used for about 3 hours total of the week and just watching ALOT of the X-Terra Pro videos and I have noticed that ALOT of people are trying to be on the full sensitivity and complain for an update. But any kind of detector will not be able to be able to run the full sensitivity and If that happens it's a very short time and the ground conditions are just right. And also ALOT of people are not even ground balancing the X-Terra Pro and that's more important than the noise cancel, cause the detector needs to know what type of ground it is in ( minerals) and (No Moisture) but they refuse to do it but they are doing the noise cancel though and COMPLAIN That a update is the saving grace but it's all just User Error and not knowing the X-Terra Pro and the jumpy VDI tells me not to be so excited to Dig that target up and I Now know what the good Targets are Tone's and vdi and Jewelry and ALOT of User Errors..... and in the just 3 hours of MISTAKES and for every action I made it Had an opposite reaction and it will take some time. Like anything that is New and this is the first Minelab that I have ever owned and I love it....... ❤️

Most likely an extremely rusty tiny iron object. They can give off a big halo that'll fool your detector. Once you dig & disturb that halo the signal is gone.

Your video sucks 😆. Just kidding. I’ve been doing a lot of beach detecting. In the past I’ve been discriminating and not digging my low tones. Then it was brought to my attention that is where gold is. Oh ya. So I been digging everything. All I’m finding are pull tabs & bottle caps. It’s been good training. I also been running with all tones. I have been avoiding digging the trashy iron tones though. Loving my Nox 900

Pay attention to the tones. Wrinkled can slaw gives a sort of wobble in the tone, almost like the detector is trying to describe the ripples in the metal. I'm starting to really tune in to my 900.
